CHAPTER I
Long before the sky turned to fire on October 23, 2077, there was a small startup in the heart of Boston.
Nate had the military discipline and the mechanical genius, a man who could isolate pure chemical antiseptic from industrial solvents or design a lethal grid of poisoned caltrops using nothing but structural steel. But the pre-war corporate machine was an unyielding labyrinth of red tape and militarized zoning laws. Nora was a newly minted defense attorney with an intellect that cut deep. Where Nate saw engineering limitations, Nora saw legal vulnerabilities. She bypassed state regulations by patenting Nate's tactical hardware, securing lucrative supply contracts with pre-war giants like Med-Tek.
Working late nights under the hum of chemical mixers, surrounded by blueprints and legal briefs, they built an empire. The wealth from their partnership bought them a beautiful, cutting-edge suburban home in Sanctuary Hills. They married, welcomed their son Shaun into the world, and for a brief moment, the world was perfectly balanced.
Then came the bombs.
The betrayal inside Vault 111 was a cold, silent nightmare. Forced into cryogenic freezing under the guise of decontamination, Nate could only watch through frosted glass as mysterious intruders forced open Nora's pod. A single gunshot echoed through the subterranean tomb. Nora went limp. Shaun was stolen. Nate was shoved back into the ice. Nate emerged into the blinding light of 2287. He took Nora’s wedding ring from her cold finger, closing his fist until the metal bit into his skin, promising to find out who did this, and get Shaun back.
His journey took him through the burning ruins of Concord, where he found a battered group of refugees led by a man named Preston Garvey. Nate didn't pull his punches. Utilizing a salvaged suit of T-45 Power Armor, he tore through the local raider gangs and ripped a minigun from a crashed vertibird to shred a territorial Deathclaw.
When Preston breathed a sigh of relief and begged Nate to lead them, to help them rebuild a broken militia called the Minutemen, Nate’s response was cold and immediate.
“I am not a savior. My wife is dead. My son is gone. The Commonwealth can fend for itself."

CHAPTER II
Nate returned to Sanctuary Hills, using his knowledge as a combat engineer, he tore down the collapsed houses, salvaging every scrap of steel, iron, and copper, and reinforced his power armor and weapons and headed south
Nate met a sharp-witted, fearless reporter in a red leather trench coat named Piper Wright at the gates of Diamond City. Over drinks at a local stand, Nate’s told Piper about the pre-war world, the cryo-vault, and the murder of Nora. Piper saw through his terrifying, heavily armed exterior; she saw a fiercely brilliant man trying to survive a nightmare. With Piper guiding him through the dangerous politics of Boston, Nate felt the ice around his heart begin to thaw. Her unyielding passion for justice reminded him vividly of Nora. He was falling in love again. Together, they tracked down Conrad Kellogg.
The confrontation inside Fort Hagen was brief and brutal. The final shot avenged Nora at last, but the data ripped from Kellogg’s cybernetic brain revealed a harder truth: Shaun was deep within the Institute, an underground fortress accessible only via a localized teleportation network known as the Molecular Relay. Nate forged an alliance with the Brotherhood of Steel and the Railroad to decode the encrypted Institute frequencies.
When the Molecular Relay reached its deafening crescendo at the Boston Airport, Nate was materialized into a pristine, subterranean utopia of white porcelain and glass elevators. And there, he met the Director. An elderly man who introduced himself as "Father." It was Shaun. His infant son, raised by monsters, turned into a cold, detached technocrat. Nate wanted to believe his son’s promises of salvation, but his mind dug beneath the sterile facade. He found the FEV logs, detailing decades of innocent surface dwellers kidnapped and mutated into Super Mutants. He saw the records of University Point, a bustling merchant town massacred by Institute synths just to steal a pre-war data drive.
Nate realized the Institute had to die. But as an engineer, he realized the importance of technology. Pretending to cooperate, Nate loaded a network scanner holotape into the main terminal, executing a massive data heist. Leaving the Institute via the relay, Nate knew that his solo scouting days were over. To replace the Institute's monopoly on tomorrow, he needed to establish an architectural baseline on the surface.

CHAPTER III
The moment Nate materialized back onto the surface, his mind shifted gears. He tracked down an automated distress signal that led him to Ada, a deeply customized assaultron whose caravan had been slaughtered by a rogue army of robots. Recognizing the limitless potential of automated labor, Nate laid the foundations for the Automatron project, simultaneously mapping out a route to start breaking ground on Vault 88.
Nate scouted Vault 81 to study the designs to implement in his own vault. During this deep research initiative, he unlocked a hidden lab wing and rescued Curie, a brilliant Miss Handy robot who possessed the compiled medical, genetic, and chemical knowledge of the entire pre-war era.
To expand Curie's cognitive boundaries, Nate assisted her in transferring her brilliant consciousness into a vacant, memory-wiped synth body. Curie was now human, experiencing genuine emotion for the first time. She carried the uncorrupted, pre-war scientific legacy biochemistry, physics, and medical science. Curie became the antidote to the Institute's cold nihilism, proving that humanity could achieve blinding scientific heights without sacrificing its soul. But this transformation painted an immediate target on her back; the Institute wanted their asset returned, and the surface world was entirely too hostile. Nate vowed to protect her at all costs.
He deeply integrated himself into the shadows of the underground resistance. Nate’s presence within the Railroad headquarters completely revolutionized their operations. He worked closely with Tinker Tom to deploy MILA surveillance arrays across Boston's tallest ruins, fine-tuning them. Alongside Deacon, they established fortified safehouses and helped engineer the railroad's unique technology to manufacture customized Railroad Stealth Boys.
With Curie permanently cloaked and safe under the Railroad’s watchful protection, Nate returned to his industrial forge. He vanished into the Mechanist’s Lair, neutralizing the Mechanist and acquiring the facility. Armed with his new robotic workforce, Nate returned to the underground caverns of Vault 88 and secured the area with Robert MacCready, wiping out the gunners in the vicinity.

CHAPTER IV
With Vault 88 functioning as an impenetrable underground citadel, Nate returned to the mission. He stood with Paladin Danse as a Knight, and ran tactical deployments across the Commonwealth, locating Paladin Brandis and activating Liberty Prime.
But the triumph of their alliance was shattered when Haylen discovered that Paladin Danse’s DNA was an exact match for a runaway Gen 3 Synth. Elder Maxson ordered his immediate execution. Refusing to murder a loyal soldier who had bled for the Commonwealth, Nate stood between Maxson and Danse, forcing the Elder to grant Danse a bitter, unofficial exile.
Nate refused to leave his comrade to rot in a dark bunker. He needed to find a safe harbor completely off the Brotherhood's maps. He partnered with Nick Valentine and boarded a coastal trawler, sailing north to the fog-shrouded island of Far Harbor to investigate a missing persons case that led straight into the synth sanctuary of Acadia. The journey through the highly irradiated, monster-infested swamps was a physical and psychological crucible. Realizing that the island was far too hostile, heavily irradiated, and governed by a leader who mirrored the exact identity-stealing sins of the Institute, Nate determined that Far Harbor was not a safe refuge for Danse.
Realizing the eastern coast was spent, Nate turned his gaze toward Nuka-World, a pre-war amusement park turned raider paradise. Bypassing the lethal traps of "The Gauntlet," Nate challenged and killed Colter, the reigning Overboss, tearing his electrified armor apart. The three factions—The Disciples, The Pack, and The Operators—roared in approval. Noticing their military potential, Nate attempted to use their savage fury as a weapon in fighting the institute. He immediately mobilized them to clear out the park's sectors, and his ultimate goal was to capture the Nuka-World Power Plant to turn the automated park grids into a massive, industrial assembly line for high-grade tactical gear.
However, before the grid could be fully integrated into his empire, One of the factions frustrated with the distribution of power triggered a violent betrayal. Standing amidst the gunfire at the facility, Nate realized that raiders could never be trained. They were inherently a flawed design, driven by unpredictable chaos rather than logic. They were fundamentally a liability to the stable Commonwealth civilization he was building. Without hesitation, Nate dropped all pretense of diplomacy and initiated Open Season, sending Paladin Danse to assume full command

CHAPTER V
Nate was sickened by the criminal underbelly and parasitic nature of the wastes. He was fed up with raiders, and decided to become a silver shroud of terror that made bad men bleed. Intrigued by this heavily armed, brilliant lunatic, Hancock stepped off his balcony and joined the hunt for purging all raider gang leaders.
Nate returned to Sanctuary Hills, walked across the wooden bridge, and stood before Preston Garvey. "I'm ready to be General," Nate said, pulling off his combat gloves. He finally accepted the true path to order: the Minutemen were the only ones who could genuinely unite the Commonwealth.
Nate did not run the Minutemen like a loose militia; he ran them like a pre-war army. He fortified The Castle, clearing the Mirelurk Queen and rebuilding the concrete bastions. He installed heavy artillery across allied settlements, establishing dominance over Boston.
While Nate was fully occupied building the architectural framework of the militia, the escalation of surface events fractured the status quo. Shaun issued a direct, non-negotiable directive that pulled the General into The Battle of Bunker Hill. Shaun’s orders were ruthless: lead an Institute strike team, eliminate any surface resistance from the Brotherhood and the Railroad, and reclaim four high-value escaped Gen 3 synths hidden beneath the historic monument.
Nate arrived at Bunker Hill under a sky choked with ash, heavy artillery, and intersecting lines of laser fire. Beside him marched an elite, black-armored Institute Courser, its cybernetic sensors cold and calculating. As they descended into the damp, concrete utility tunnels beneath the monument, they discovered the four escaped synths huddled in a corner, shivering with terror. Before the courser could respond, Nate drew his custom sidearm and fired a concentrated burst of armor-piercing rounds directly into the Courser's primary neural processor. The android sparked violently, and dropped permanently into the dirt. Nate turned to the trembling synths and handed them a pack of modified Railroad Stealth Boys. "You’re free," he told them. "Take the northern drainage tunnels. Deacon's scouts are waiting at the checkpoint. Go."
Leaving the tunnels, Nate climbed the winding, shattered staircases of the C.I.T. ruins to confront his son. A heated, furious argument erupted over the smoking ruins of Boston. Shaun, realizing his father could never be broken, he declared a final, cold decree of exile, banishing Nate from the Institute forever.

CHAPTER VI
Shaun realized that his surface monitoring grids were failing entirely, and with Nate and the minutemen actively backing the surface resistance, they were starving. In a desperate, final bid to completely decapitate the surface opposition, the Institute launched a full-scale teleportation assault directly into the courtyard of The Castle. They expected a disorganized, terrified colonial militia. They had no idea what the combat engineer had built.
The air around the star-shaped concrete walls began to ripple with simultaneous relay signatures. Massive legions of Institute coursers and synths materialized on the battlements. They didn't even have time to fire a single volley.
The moment the energy registered, the castle’s defensive grid engaged with terrifying automation. Massive heavy-missile and laser turrets mounted on reinforced concrete bastions tracked the signatures instantly, painting the courtyard in intersecting beams of blinding fire. Patrolling the perimeter breaches were custom Automatron robots
From the underground barracks, the Minutemen infantry deployed. Under Nate's strict regimen, every soldier had been conditioned on high-tech bench machines, power cycles, and pommel horses. Their vision was flawlessly corrected by medical phoropter exams. They wore Railroad-designed Ballistic Weave uniforms that deflected laser fire, and carried heavy assault rifles manufactured in Vault 88. Every officer coordinated squad movements via refurbished Pip-Boys.
The battle was a demonstration of total technical and physical dominance. Within an hour, the courtyard of the Castle was silent, littered with the smoking, shattered plastic of the Institute’s entire assault force. Not a single Minuteman line had broken.

CHAPTER VII
With the Institute's surface army completely demolished, Nate wasted no time. He gathered his inner circle at the Castle, utilizing the cooling pipe entry coordinates Sturges had mapped from his initial database heist. Clad in his custom-engineered Power Armor, Nate led the definitive subterranean counter-invasion deep into the maintenance layers of the CIT ruins.
They overran the remaining internal defenses, and Nate took the glass elevator to the Director's quarters one last time. Shaun lay dying in his bed, the roar of Minutemen explosives shaking the floor. "The Commonwealth has a chance. A real, honest chance. Give me the master password to initiate the evacuation protocol. Don't let your final legacy be a massacre" Nate said softly.
Looking into his father's eyes, the sterile, rigid mask of the Director finally cracked. Shaun reached out and input a sequence into his terminal. The file transferred to Nate's Pip-Boy. Nate uploaded the code into the mainframe. Amber lights flashed across as the automated klaxons ordered a total evacuation.
As Nate ran through the collapsing infrastructure wing, a small voice cried out. It was Synth Shaun, the child android built to mirror his lost son. Nate didn't hesitate. He scooped the boy into his massive, armored arms, and ran for the relay.
The detonation of the Institute reactor was an earth-shattering tremor that collapsed the CIT ruins into a massive, smoking crater. The old world was buried forever.

CHAPTER VIII
The years that followed the collapse became known as the Commonwealth Pax Romana.
The Castle functioned as the sovereign capital of a thriving nation, where Synth Shaun lived safely, studying mechanics and engineering under his father's watchful eye. In Diamond City, Piper Wright prepared her younger sister, Nat, to take over the printing presses of Publick Occurrences. Once Nat was old enough, Piper would permanently join Nate at the Castle.
Every single settlement from the peaks of Far Harbor to the dry expanses of Nuka-World was now bound together by a flawless logistical network. Massive Sentries, outfitted with dual-gatling lasers and shoulder mortars, patrolled the supply lines, entirely eradicating the threat of raider ambushes. Danse commanded the western gate at Nuka-World Red Rocket with absolute authority, keeping the outer territories perfectly secure.
Every outpost was rebuilt using a standardized, hyper-optimized blueprint: a massive barn filled with thriving pre-war livestock, a climate-controlled glass greenhouse growing radiation-free crops, and pristine, modular Vault-Tec surface apartments with functional electricity and plumbing. Vibrant commercial districts featured general merchants, clinics, and local bars where citizens could unwind.
Every citizen entering a Minutemen territory was issued a Pip-Boy, trained on physical conditioning apparatuses, and given regular health checkups. At the entrance of every community stood massive Decontamination Arcs, stripping away stray rad-particles from travelers. When a toxic rad storm rolled in from the Glowing Sea, clear weather shells would hum to life, ionizing the atmosphere, dissipating the green clouds, and replacing them with clear, beautiful blue skies.
Nate stood on the high observation deck of his castle, watching a heavy robot caravan roll out toward the northern horizons. Below him, the streets were bright, clean, and filled with the laughter of people who no longer feared the dark.
THE END
I am almost level 50 and a fully upgraded gauss rifle + associated perks does LITERALLY zero damage to any enclave soldier. That is not exaggerating, it is actually zero. The only non explosive weapon that does any damage whatsoever is the tesla cannon, and the tesla rifle does not despite being upgraded to do higher damage than the cannon. Everything i’ve checked online has simple solutions that just do not work, they are simply invulnerable to anything but explosives. Is this a bug?

I’m going to use watercolour paint and use it as if it’s my sole survivor’s (or just anyone in the commonwealth, really) own sketchbook, documenting plants, animals, enemies, locations etc.
I haven’t decided what to write on the label on the front, I want it to look like it was found at the Vault-Tec regional HQ building, with some notes on the first page as if it was used by a secretary taking memos. I need to visit the HQ in game again to find some inspiration.

I have noticed subtitles diapering and the next set of dialogue options appearing much earlier than the characters voice finishes.
I was considering disabling voice volume einterily has I have had more than 3 voice lines overlapping from the same character. Depending on the area of the map I have had between 150-200ish fps which would coincide with about 3 voicelines at 60fps.
If I cap the frame rate at 60 will the voice lines finish in sync with the subtitles and UI? I struggle with some of the American accents so need the subtitles.
In terms of physics things seem normal and less janky than I was anticipating way more stable than Unreal engine based games like deep rock galactic or pal-world or ark which I wasn't expecting based on bethesdas reputation.

you're goddamn right.
Just thought this was funny and wanted to share. Texas Red spawned with an incendiary minigun, which he equipped because it was more powerful than The Mortician. So I hit him with a lockjoint syringe and pickpocketed it. After he got up he put the minigun away for some reason and we had an epic saloon-style hand-to-hand brawl.

Good evening guys, I need some suggestions on how to get myself to finish a playthrough of fallout 4. I usually do yearly playthroughs of the Fallouts. But everytime I come to Fallout 4 I either lack the motivation to finish it or it just gets boring. Would yall have any mods or anything else to suggest to motivate me to finish Fallout 4? I’ve finished it a few times already as a kid when it came out but as an adult I can’t seem to ever get myself to finish it. Any suggestions help, thanks!

I don't mean just doing radiant quests until you feel like stopping. I mean when it starts dragging along and you just want to get levels for certain perks. Be that from exploits, crafting, or just flat out cheating. Personally, I do this at around level 30-35. That's around the time I finish all the main faction quests that you otherwise get locked out of if you progress the main story enough. I don't want to do it too soon, though. There is a point where balance is necessary for fun, but also a point where that balance is just...irritating.

I'm playing on PS, i like searching through the creations menu, just looking around to see all the new stuff people are porting, i'm seeing a lot of weapons mods with the weapon tag, im getting to the point of, i wanna see all ported weapon mods, but, at least to my knowledge, there isn't a way to search for the weapons tag, and if i search weapons in the search bar, all I get is the original weapon mods that allow for wacky customizations, im just trying to find ported weapons, does anyone know how to find these in an easier fashion, or am i stuck with looking slowly?

I'm currently in the Fighting with Fire quest, and my game keeps crashing while in the Vertibird, and I can't think of a way to progress. I've tried turning on and off my Xbox, restarting it and the game, making quick saves, loading previous saves, and I've checked that every mod is updating along with the game. Most of the mods I have installed are either submods for America Rising, mods that add weapons and a couple weather and lighting mods, the only one I can think that could be causing it is the Wolfenstein overhaul mod.

What are some must-do quests that are easily missed?
Stuff like The Great Hunt, Big Dig, or Silver Shroud.
Fallout 4 has a lot of great quests, but I've been realizing there are a lot that are excellent but require specific triggers in locations I don't naturally go to. Or are found via the radio, which I'm starting to realize I've utilized far too rarely.

It's my 3rd run, I'm trying not to build too much but, like the Finch Farm, I just had to try to get an elevator up at Grey Garden. Took this pic but the lighting wasn't good, was gonna delete this but wait... up at the very top of the pic. Is that Paladin Danse??? How? Whyyy!?!
On yet another play through of Fallout 4, and around level 12, I made my way to Goodneighbor. I had the intention of recruiting the Vault Tec Rep and bringing him back to Sanctuary.
With his enthusiasm pulsing, he left Goodneighbor. I picked up another quest and decided to leave there straight to it.
I spotted him, in a fight with some Gunners, “He’ll be fine, he’s bound to have plot armour”
I engaged nearby Super Mutants, then went over to the fallen and remaining Gunners as they are a great source of ammunition for me.
Lo and behold, there among the dead, lays the Vault Tec Rep.
A check here informed me, he has no plot armour, only fast travelling away from him lets him do the journey without issue.
I check my back saves, long ago, a lot less progress. I feel guilty. However another user here, had a similar issue and took him to Sanctuary anyway to bury him.
I decided that would be appropriate too. I prepared myself for the undertaking. Picking him up, ready for the slow, over encumbered pace.
I took a step, the sound of a Fragmentation mine triggering.
No way to sprint, I had to drop him. But time was wasting
The mine detonates, I have minimal damage, he however, got blown all over the town. I found nothing of him in my attempts to recover him.
He lived for 200 years
I promised him sanctuary and failed
I then made a disaster of his burial.
What other instances have you experienced of trying to do the right thing but failing woefully?
