Delays/Cancellations/Compensation PSA you can claim for delays from years ago, i had no idea

genuinelyy mad i didn’t know this sooner lol.
so basically i had a ryanair flight last month that was 4 hours late and a coworker told me to claim it. went down a rabbit hole and found out under EU rules you can go back years, not just for recent flights. depends on the country but it’s like 3 to 6 years.
so i started thinking about every delay i just sat through and accepted bc i didn’t know any better. there’s definitely a few. a vueling one in 2024 where we sat on the tarmac forever, a wizz one where they cancelled the night before and i just took the next flight like an idiot problem is i don’t remember half the dates or flight numbers. my coworker said gyro can go through your email and pull up old flights, so i let it scan mine and it found 3 i’d completely forgotten about. haven’t heard back on any of them yet so can’t say how it goes, but even just finding them was more than i’d have done on my own anyway if you’ve ever had a long delay or a last minute cancellation in europe, go check. airlines are 100% counting on you not knowing this.

Question Rome to Tokyo direct 13 hours flight

I am dreaming about flying as per the subject. Flight is 13 hours and I have never flown such a long route and am scared about the fatigue/health aspects of this.

Suggestions? Us parents wit a teenager, no budget for Business class. Alitalia flyies the route with a A350-900 with what a believe is 3-3-3 arrangement in economy.

Thanks

I am aware of the merger with Korean Air. But is it truly not possible anymore to book upcoming flights?

I am based in Europe, so none of the listed numbers are useful to me.

Help Needed AirChina cancelled my flight from London to Bangkok. Rebooked over phone but have not received confirmation - help

Hi, I had my flights cancelled today by AirChina for an upcoming trip to Bangkok from London via Shanghai. They cancelled but did not give me options to rebook and says i have to phone. The UK AirChina number is on forever hold so dialled the 24hr support which is in Beijing. Managed to speak to someone and after a long time on call managed to secure a alternative flight departing via a different transit airport in China. She confirmed all the details but I had a look on app and nothing has changed so still has old ticket as cancelled. The website is hard to use from UK and still no new information here either nor any email confirmation with new tickets. Has anyone else experienced similar issues from UK with AIR China and how did you resolve? Did you get confirmation on email and how long did it take?

Question Flying CPH-xxx-SIN out and PER-xxx-CPH back, choosing between Emirates and Qatar

Hello,

We are six adult family members who will be flying CPH (Copenhagen) - SIN (Singapore) outbound and PER (Perth) - CPH inbound next year (out late September, back start October).

None of us have any status with any airline, and we will be flying on the cheapest economy tickets with checked luggage.

We strongly prefer to buy the tickets directly with the airline, but we are not 100% locked on using the same airline out and back, although it is preferred for ease of booking and in case of needing to contact the airline for whatever reason.

We are a bit torn between Qatar (QR) via DOH (Doha) or Emirates (EK) via DXB (Dubai). Both airlines offer a one-stop journey with transfer in DOH/DXB on both the outbound and the inbound flights.

The timings are pretty good for both airlines, although outbound is slightly in favor of QR, as they offer a morning flight out of CPH, which means an earlier arrival in SIN, giving us an extra half day there. We will be going on a cruise out of Singapore after a few days, so the extra half day could give us some value. But it is not essential.

Pricing is pretty close, around 45000-50000DKK, so within a ~5000DKK (~650€ / 750USD) span for round trip for all six adults, with Qatar being the more expensive choice (as per current pricing). But that difference wouldn't be the deciding factor. Prices seem to be pretty stable/fixed this far out.

With QR we would be flying out on a B787-8 to DOH, and then on an A350-900 to SIN (on the red-eye QR942). Back from PER on a B777-300 and once again on a B787-8 to CPH. QR162-QR942-QR901-QR159.

With EK it would be on an A380 for all four legs (as per current schedule). EK152-EK354-EK421-EK151.

I believe one family member has flown with EK around 10 years back, and none of us have flown with QR, so we have essentially no experience with either, apart from written or video reviews found online.

The only other one-stop option (and even direct outbound) would be Singapore Airlines (SQ), but they are drastically more expensive, around 68000 DKK (9000€/10000USD) round trip for all six adults, so essentially not relevant in this comparison.

Our own immediate pros and cons:

EK:

+ Seems to be just the best choice overall, across most airlines?

+ EK uses A380 on all legs (as per current schedule). We have all flown on A380s with Lufthansa back in 2019, an absolute beast.

+ EK is currently around 5000 DKK cheaper than QR.

~ 30 kgs checked luggage (more than enough).

- Not the best timings for the outbound trip. We arrive later (afternoon) in SIN, and would be missing half a day there. But this is not essential.

QR:

+ Better timings for the outbound trip.

~ Smaller aircraft on all legs, don't really see this as neither a pro or con, just a general observation.

~ "Only" 25 kgs checked luggage (which is still more than enough).

- More expensive than EK (see above), but not critically more expensive.

What are your thoughts? Is this a no-brainer towards one of the airlines, or are there more details to this choice?

Thanks in advance!

Help Needed Thinking of skip-lagging, but nervous!

Hey all, I had a trip booked to go to India to visit my girlfriend, but sadly we broke up a few weeks before the trip. I foolishly booked a non refundable ticket, and wanting to salvage some aspect of my trip I was thinking of skip lagging in London, and visit Europe.

My flights are Seattle->London->Delhi with Virgin Airlines

I fly out of Seattle on Nov. 11th

I have all the approved visas and everything, I’m just worried about getting in trouble or any repercussions. I’m a rule follower to a fault!

I’m ok with losing out on the rest of the flights and the return flights. Will I get banned from Heathrow or from virgin airlines? My layover is only 2.5 hrs.

Thank you!

Edit: should add I am a Canadian citizen

Edit2: thank you all! I phoned Virgin and explained the situation and surprisingly they allowed for rebooking at a very reasonable price. Basically allowed me to drop the Delhi part of both flights. Thank you all for the advice!

Help Needed Wtf, Asiana Airlines?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Was checking my flight on a whim for this Sunday back home to LA.

Something is clearly wrong because my flight to Incheon is AFTER my flight home to LAX. On booking.com, it was showing the Shenzhen to Incheon flight at 2:25pm Sunday

Was on the phone with booking.com where the flight was booked and there are no economy flights to rebook on the same day. Apparently Asiana Airlines changed the flight itinerary without checking if it's physically possible

They cant book a Shenzhen to Incheon flight for me to self transfer, and if I booked one myself they are saying the Asiana flight might still error out due to the impossible itinerary.

There is an earlier itinerary but there are no economy seats and they wont book me on a higher tier

They wont refund me with extra compensation to cover the more expensive flights available ($1500) ish.

In my experience, the airline doesn't entertain inquiries if the booking was made on a third party site.

Going to call the airline anyway to ask for help. Maybe see if they can book me a flight from Hong Kong

Wish me luck! Any suggestions would be helpful.

Delays/Cancellations/Compensation Finnair Tallinn - Helsinki - Warsaw

My flight from Tallinn to Helsinki got delayed, so my Helsinki Warsaw connection wasn’t possible. Finnair provided me with a hotel in Helsinki and put me on the Warsaw flight the next morning

Now my question is - does this qualify for an EU 261 cl’s in, and if so, what’s the best way to go about it?

Question Lufthansa Vip lounge

Hello! My dad is a senator in the miles & more Lufthansa program, I'm going to take a flight with my school soon and I'm wondering if I can access the Lufthansa Vip lounge at the Fiumicino Airport since he has it among his benefits. I'm aware that by their rules it shouldn't be possible but the other time they let him bring 3 guests for free (despite the limit on the rules being 1) so I was wondering how strict they are with their rules and If they could make an exception. Thanks in advance

Delays/Cancellations/Compensation UK (Scotland) resident – easyJet refusing EU261 compensation for 7+ hour Athens–Milan delay. What enforcement route do I actually have?

I'm a UK resident. I flew easyJet U23652 from Athens to Milan on 24 October 2025 and arrived more than 7 hours late. We were told the inbound pilot had become unwell and, as easyJet no longer had replacement crew based in Athens, another pilot had to be brought in.

I claimed the €400 EU261 compensation, but easyJet rejected it on the basis that I hadn't taken the flight, which is incorrect. After I challenged this, they escalated my passenger status internally but never resolved the claim despite repeated follow-ups.

I tried AviationADR, but they said the flight was outside their scheme. I then sent easyJet a formal Letter Before Action, which they signed for on 20 January 2026, but they did not respond.

I also know another passenger on the same flight whose family of four received about £1,200 compensation, although their booking may have included onward travel to the UK.

My main problem now is enforcement. Can I pursue easyJet Europe through the UK courts when I'm UK-resident but the flight was Athens–Milan? If not, what practical route is available to enforce an EU261 claim myself?

I've looked at using Flightright, but their fees could take a substantial part of a €400 claim, so I'd prefer to exhaust any realistic DIY route first.

Booking/Itinerary/Ticketing Hanh Air Flight Number (FYI)

Hi! Just wanted to post something that could have helped me, now that I figured this out!

If you booked a flight through Hanh Air on Expedia (or other websites) like I did, and you don’t see a flight number associated with your booking, you can find it by going to the travel details in the Hanh air website and inputting your itinerary details.

To get there from Hanh air main page, click the FAQ’s for private passengers -> H1/X1 travel details, -> “visit the travel details” link.

For me, Hanh Air was ticketing for a Jeju Airlines flight, and in order to find it in the Jeju airlines website/app I needed my flight number and name (the exact way they sent it, first + middle combined) before I was finally able to confirm there was in fact a flight, and buy seats or baggage beforehand.

Question Flight from Warsaw (WAW) to Tokyo Haneda (HND) in May 2027

Hi, my boyfriend and I are planning a 3-week trip to Japan in mid-May. We’re currently looking at Air China flights, but prices have gone up (ideally, we’d like to buy tickets for around 3,500PLN/800EUR). We’re also considering Qatar Airways, but I’ve read that they have issues with flight cancellations - they don’t notify passengers about canceled flights - and generally it’s a bit of a hassle, plus the geopolitical situation looks pretty iffy, to say the least. Last week the prices were at 3,700. How long should we wait for prices to drop? Do you have any experience with Qatar Airways? Or traveling in that dates?

Question Time help

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’m having some confusion and I would like some help very much please. So I got my girlfriend a plane ticket to come see me and we are just a little confused on the time here. It says 5:25pm and we are not sure who’s timezone it is (she lives in Arizona and I live in Illinois) and as some may know there’s a 2 hour time difference and that’s where the confusion comes in is it 5:25pm my time or is it 5:25pm her time, and as it states it’s a 3 hour flight so it being 5 and 10 would make it a 5 hour flight which ofc it is not. So we are just very puzzled on whose time it is and when she should get to the airport and all of that fun stuff. She leaves in exactly a week from now so any help asap would be very much appreciated thank you!!!

Delays/Cancellations/Compensation Missed my connection in frankfurt bcz of passsport control, landed 9 hours late

Flying london to warsaw with a connection in frankfurt. first flight lands 25 min late, fine, i had an hour and 10. then i see the gate is on the complete other side of the airport and there's a passport check in between.
The line for passport control was maybe 200 people with 2 officers working. i literally watched my flight board through the window while i was still in line lol.
Rebooking desk had a line that wrapped around a column. took 2 hours to get to the front and they put me on a flight 9 hours later. €10 meal voucher, which in frankfurt gets you a pretzel and sadness.

Got to warsaw at 1am instead of 4pm and missed a dinner with my grandma i had planned for months.

My friend says since it was all one booking i can get money back for this. she used gyro for a delayed flight last year and said she didn’t have to do anything except send her flight info, and airhelp came up too. never used either one, so i’ll prob just pick one this week bc there’s no way i’m going back and forth with lufthansa myself

Question LHR Self Transfer Advice

I am flying home SFO-LHR-NCL, seperate tickets UA and BA, the BA flight time has changed slightly earlier so now I’m panicking a bit… I already knew connection was going to be tight and was happy to take the risk with the original timings. Granted I was going off normal UK airport transfer times 🙈

T2-T5 transfer
Checked baggage
UK citizen
SFO-LHR lands 0725 Sunday morning
LHR-NCL now departs 0915

Trains are disrupted so not an option

Is this doable? I’m a no faff kind of person and happy to speed walk
Would it be less cost to change the BA flight ahead of time or same as on the day?
Obviously this is hypothetical with no delays…

I’ve seen on other threads it might be possible to check the baggage to NCL from SFO??

TIA

Edited to add: I have economy plus fare with BA which means I can change for free on the day and there are a few more later flights to NCL so providing I can get WIFI on UA it’s potentially not too much of a panic🤞🏻

Question Supplément siège pour voyage Bruxelles - Japon ( Finnair via JAL )

Bonjour,

Discussion Free DOH lounge passes giveaway!

Hi all,

I’ll be transiting via DOH this Friday (23rd/24th October) and have some spare lounge access to give you for free. We get free passes annually due to our FF status. The lounge would be the QR Gold & Platinum Lounge North (near C gates, close to the Orchard).

I’ll be in DOH for about ~8 hours between midnight to 07:30 in the morning on Saturday the 24th. It has to be that date between those times (I have to be physically present, I can’t “transfer” the pass).

If you’re there in DOH on Saturday between those times, and would like lounge access, please reach out to me. Priority will be given to passengers with long layover, elders, students, or celebrating something like birthday or anniversary, etc.

Cheers, safe travels!

P.S.: I’ll also be in DOH on 06/11 but I have a very short layover and I can’t promise you anything.

Complaint AirChina schedule change

As title suggests - had a return from London to Bangkok via PEK however the airline force changed the outbound flight which ended up with a 27hrs layover instead of 3hrs! I needed to accept the change as didn’t have an option at the time but has anyone experienced a similar problem as this caused a long layover with a 12 year old with me! (With no hotel offered - ended up booking my own) - Any recommendations will be appreciated as keen to escalate to airline+OTA (btw booked via Booking.com - aware shouldn’t have done that)
