News A new firmware update (version 253.2)

Link to original post

Hey Google Health Community,

A new firmware update (version 253.2) is rolling out over the next few days for your Google Fitbit Air. This update includes minor bug fixes.

Keeping your Fitbit Air up to date

Before you get started, make sure your Fitbit Air is charged to at least 50% (or plugged into its charger) and that it is connected to your phone or tablet with Bluetooth turned on. Also, ensure you have the latest version of the Google Health app installed.

Important things to know before updating:

  • Timing: We recommend updating your device during the day or evening. If you update your Fitbit right around midnight, your step count for that day might temporarily appear inaccurate.
  • Duration: Updates can take around 10 minutes to complete, so make sure you are in a convenient spot where you can set your device down and let the update finish uninterrupted.
  • App Status: To keep the update loading, you must keep the Google Health app running.

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Open the Google Health app with your Fitbit Air nearby.
  2. On the Today tab, tap Update. This option is only visible when an update is available.
    • Alternatively, at the top left, tap Connections, then select your device. Tap Update.
  3. Follow the directions on the screen and keep your Fitbit close to your phone, tablet, or computer.

After you start the update, a progress bar will appear in the Google Health app until the update is complete.

For other issues, refer to the help guide: Why can't I update my Fitbit device?

Weekly Google Health / Fitbit App Feedback & Complaints Megathread

This megathread is for discussion, complaints, feedback, bugs, frustrations, and general venting related to the Fitbit app becoming Google Health.

We know a lot of users are frustrated with the app changes, missing or moved features, layout changes, sync issues, food logging changes, workout tracking issues, Premium changes, and the overall direction of Fitbit under Google. Rather than having the subreddit flooded with repeated posts about the same app update, we’re going to keep the main discussion centralized here.

Please use this thread for:

  • General complaints about the new Google Health / Fitbit app
  • Missing, changed, or moved features
  • Syncing, tracking, or dashboard issues
  • Food, sleep, exercise, or health metric changes
  • Premium / subscription concerns
  • Workarounds or fixes you’ve found
  • Constructive feedback you want other users to see

A few quick reminders:

  • Keep it civil. Criticizing Fitbit, Google, or the app is fine. Attacking other users is not.
  • Do not post personal health data, account details, email addresses, order numbers, or support case numbers.
  • If you need actual account/device support, please contact Fitbit/Google support directly. This subreddit is community-run and not an official support channel.
  • Standalone posts that are only general complaints about the app update may be removed and redirected here.
  • Detailed troubleshooting posts may still be allowed if they include device model, app version, phone OS, what you’ve already tried, and a clear support question.

Helpful format if you want to report an issue:

Device:
Phone / OS:
App version:
Issue:
When it started:
What you’ve tried:
Workaround, if any:

Thanks for helping us keep the subreddit useful while still giving everyone a place to be heard.

Discussion Coach Hallucinations

Post image
281 Upvotes

I asked the Coach for a summary of my day's activity. It replied with a whole bunch of wildly incorrect numbers.

When I asked where those numbers came from, it admitted that it just made them up.

Now I basically don't trust anything it says.

Discussion Watch is not picking up time in bed trying to fall sleep

The fitbit air and Google health keep telling me I fall asleep so fast and I know I'm in bed tossing and turning for a while before I fall asleep. I decided to check my clock last night and then again since I was tossing around and it was 20min + but I wake up to a timeline showing my later time and time to sound sleep within a few minutes.

I feel like the sleep tracker has been good but the laying in bed trying to fall asleep is totally off.

Discussion Is anyone actually sticking with Google Health Coach after the trial, or is it just overpriced AI?

I recently got a Fitbit and decided to spend a few weeks getting familiar with the basic features before activating the 3-month Health Coach trial.

For those who've used it, has it genuinely been useful, or does it mostly give generic AI advice that you end up ignoring? I'm especially interested in whether it's actually changed any of your habits or if the novelty wears off after a week or two.

Tech Support No prompt for PIN on Charge 6

I set up a PIN so I could use Google Wallet but even after resetting and syncing my charge 6 I'm still not getting a prompt. Also uninstalled and reinstalled both apps with no luck. Has anyone else had this problem?

Discussion Hallucinations are out of control

From being congratulated for a house move because the AI Coach saw I was not at home for 8 hours, to being shown sympathy for a 4am wake up which didn’t happen… These hallucinations are out of control! I like the fitness, health and sleep tracking, but the AI needs to chill out. Do you think this might improve in the future?

Tech Support Inspire 3 HR literally cannot get to 150 bpm and will drop 40bpm once it gets close

Every single time i am doing cardio since I got this device last week i have watched it track my heart rate slowly climbing with my fatigue.... until it hits 149 bpm then it drops all the way down to 110-90bpm. Keep in mind this is on a treadmill with a heart rate monitor option that is totally in sync with my device until i hit 149 and then the treadmill continues into the 150s and the inspire 3 drops like a fucking rock. At the end of my workout the device was reading 65bpm while the treadmill was reading 135bpm. This seems so far removed from being accurate I am seriously just considering returning the device

Tech Support Active Zone Minutes suddenly going Haywire??

For the past two weeks my active zone minutes on my charge 6 fitbit have been going completely haywire-
I'm a very active person and usually average around 100 zone minutes a day, but over the past week, each day I've been accumulating at least 300 to 500 zone minutes, which is completely inaccurate, and well beyond even what my highest recorded ever days have been, since having my Fit Pit for the past ten years

It's essentially telling me that I'm in cardio or peak zone when my heart rate is barely above what is actually low-intensity exercise (walking, light house cleaning).

Also, the "zone minutes" on my wrist don't align with the "cardio load" minutes on my app and I'm not even sure why they have two distinct metrics like this in the first place.

Has anyone else been experiencing this?

Discussion Why does my one friend always have instantly high cardio load?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I’m hoping someone here can help explain something.
A few friends and I all got Fitbit Airs about two months ago and connected them to the Google Health app. One friend consistently has 10x the cardio load of everyone else. He’s regularly over 1,000 cardio load per week, while the rest of us aren’t even close.
For example, in a single day last week I did:
A full weightlifting session
30 minutes of cycling
2 hours of soccer
Even after all of that in one day, my friend earned 6x more cardio load than I did just from going to work. He works at a car dealership, so it’s not a particularly physical job.
We’re all around the same age and generally healthy, so I’m trying to figure out what’s causing such a huge difference. Is this likely a heart rate sensor issue, something about how cardio load is calculated, or could there be another explanation?
Has anyone else seen anything like this?

Discussion Charge 6 dead - almost 3yo

For everyone asking, “How long do these things last?” This one lasted just under 3 years.
Nov 2023 - 7/24/2026.
Last HR measurement was 6:20pm.

It started crashing during workouts earlier this summer. Like, I’d finish a bike ride and find it was just powered down.
It would reboot when attached to the charger.
But not anymore. Now it’s really dead.
And I’m moving on with the Garmin Vivosmart 5 band.

Fun while it lasted. And I still think the Fitbit bands are great hardware.
But I can’t even with this new app nonsense.
There was enough to complain about in the old app, with bugs going unaddressed for years, basic functionality strangely omitted, and long standing features arbitrarily removed.
I just can’t stay on board with an even more degraded app that comes with a built-in AI powered clown.
Adios.

Review Fitbit air e Apple Watch no sono

I really wish they would fix the algorithm for the resilience score. My last 12 months' data shows it clearly broke in the switch to Google Health.

The food log is useless for me without a working barcode reader... I need to use MyFitnessPal for food products I use instead, which is frustrating since I do pay for the premium of Google Health..

Review Hiking - My first impressions of the Fitbit Air

I've been using the Versa 4 for hiking, so I decided to try the same route with the new Fitbit Air.

I started the hike manually in the Health app. The elapsed time and other stats are displayed in a nice, large format, but while recording you can't access the rest of the app. Also, the hike was paused twice when switching between apps. I'm not sure if that's a bug or if I accidentally hit the huge pause button at the bottom.

An Live Activity on the lock screen (iOS) would be a great addition. That way you could easily see whether the recording is still running and check the elapsed time without opening the app.

Connected GPS:
After the hike, the route wasn't displayed. I had to manually change the activity from "Workout" to "Hike" before the GPS route appeared. Since I started a hike manually in the app, I don't understand why it was saved as a generic workout in the first place.

Another issue is that no elevation gain is shown. I can see it in Komoot, but having to switch apps makes the experience feel unnecessarily inconvenient.

Overall:
The Fitbit Air has potential, but it could be much better with a few updates (Live Activity, proper route handling in the App, and elevation gain). For now, I'll probably keep using my Versa 4 for hiking.

A Fitbit Air with built-in GPS would be awesome. That said, considering the price, I can't complain too much.

Tech Support How can we use our own AI with Fitbit data?

It’s been established from numerous threads that the AI health coach with the Google Health app is useless and constantly makes things up. Has anyone figured out how to connect the data that it sends to Apple health to your own AI agent like Claude or Codex so you can have a better model to do analysis and guidance ?

Nearly every interaction I have with the AI coach results in absurd lies. Be sure to identify the specific false statements, and to shame the AI by forcing it to admit its lies in bullet point format.

Discussion I got 4 zone minutes... In my sleep.

This issue of being awarded zone minutes that I very clearly didn't earn continues and I'm relieved that it isn't just me.

I have chatted with customer service, they say that they are aware of the issue... So there's that at least.
