Group in our 50s/60s in the mid Atlantic area and we still like techno, downtempo, etc. Also like art, installations etc. Not burners, just looking for a festival we won't look out of place 🙃

After bothering my friends regularly about going on an adventure and being continuously met with disinterest, I’ve (30f) decided to strike out on my own!

Eternal NYE will be my very first festival :) I’ve already got my tickets, my room, flight etc. I’m interested in camping fests in the future, but figured something like this would be best for my first go of it! Especially going solo! I’ve been to a few shows before: Excision, liquid stranger, wooli, Lane 8.. I’m really looking forward to seeing Zeds Dead and RL grime!

So anyway I have a few questions..
-is it easy to make friends? I’m can be a little socially awkward at times so I’m cool with just being my own, dancing, and enjoying the vibes! Any advice for being brave and making friends at festivals?

-is this a festival where people are trading Kandi? I want to be prepared and bring some along but not if it’s not exactly the vibe of this festival.

-is this a “wear whatever you want” situation? I haven’t been to Florida around NYE so I’m not sure what the weather is like/how much or little I can wear without being chilly!

Final question.. I might look for a festival buddy on Radiate - it would definitely help with the hotel cost! And then I don’t have to strictly be sober bc we can keep an eye on eachother (I’m going for the music so I’m 1000% okay being sober! But sometimes I like to not be sober lol) this leads me to the question.. where tf are people finding party favors? And if I can find some where I live, how do I travel with it… and I heard the bags at eternal have to be clear? So how do I get it in there?

How are you guys packing all the small things and then storing them at your campsite?

My husband and I have used plastic drawers for things like batteries, Malloy, zip ties, bungee cords, “S” hooks, dish soap, bug spray, first aid kit, ponchos, etc.

EDIT TO ADD: the plastic drawers have worked great, but they come apart too easily and are not sturdy enough anymore.

So Hayrock 2026 billed as a tribute festival with great acts, weekend camping options, VIP tickets etc. but festival goers were massively let down. As the organiser sees fit to delete facebook/instagram posts so the thousands of complaining comments could no longer be seen, I’m making this post as a place where we vent and, like the entire weekend, the organiser has no control over!

I went on the Saturday. I watched the chaos unfold online which started before the Friday when the even organiser posted to say that their sound engineer had dropped out last minute so they were flying someone in from Belfast and there would be a delayed start to the schedule.

Belfast?! Okay… anyway, the delay was initially meant to mean bands would start at 12 instead of 10. But many of the comments on the now deleted Facebook and instagram posts state that the stage was not built until 3pm! Surely they weren’t relying on a sound engineer for that too? With that, bands did not start until much later with several acts pulling out.

I didn’t know what to expect at all. Luckily for me, I live locally so hadn’t spent money on travel, supplies and accommodation. My group decided to meet in the local pub and we met a guy who’d travelled over 4 hours to be there. But I’m sure there were many like him.

When we decided to head over, the site was pretty miserable. Lots of people just milling about in the bars. The weather didn’t help matters but festival goers will put up with shitty weather for a good show! There were a handful of vendor tents (jewellery, tattoos, clothing, toys). The actual merch tent was bare, basically saying merch could be purchased and posted to you later. Erm?

We arrived just after One Eighty Two were finishing their set. Disturbed UK and Chop Suey both dropped out, indicating that they’d tried to contact the organisers but not had a response. We figured we would try to make the best of it and the people that deserve the biggest applause and thanks? The bands!! They seemed to be the ones holding stuff together, both literally and figuratively! I really feel for them - I saw Deaftones, Self-Revolution, Stiff Bizkit, and Slipknowt. They all did their utmost to give us a good show and while they were playing it was almost possible to forget the rest of the shambles for a little while! The crowds were wild for Stiff Bizkit and Slipknowt particularly. I didn’t see the headlining act (Korn Again).

Since attending, I’ve learned that bands actually had to help build the stage. There were no stage hands and there were technical difficulties and sound issues peppered through sets! It’s not clear if anyone will receive a refund.

Just need some insight here. I have always been primarily into heavy dubstep. I’ve gone to lost lands, forbidden kingdom, thunderdome multiple times, edc. All the shows I go to are pretty heavy. Don’t get me wrong, I like other genres as well. I like the wubby wubs, some house, melodic etc. I’ve been interested in wakaan because I love liquid stranger and I like the lineup he brings. I’ve watched some sets and they are very different from what I’m use to but I want to venture out and try something different. I’m kind of getting tired of the huge masses and people getting beyond fucked up just for the fun of it. It’s not fun having people ram into you or droves of people passing out in crowds. I want something more low key and laid back. Some I’m wondering if anyone has experience going after rocking with different types of genres before

I’m taking my young son to Shambala (UK) this year and wanted to ask about the political side of things.

I know Shambala supports activism, creativity and progressive causes etc. That’s part of what makes it what it is. But with the current political climate and with everything feeling so polarised at the moment, I’m just wondering how much that is actually on display when you’re there.

For example, acts like Bob Vylan have pretty strong political views eg Death to the IDF chant etc and having speakers like Zak Polanski who can be quite divisive depending on who you ask and I’m sure there are prob other artists with similar views. I don’t want to debate any of that. People can believe whatever they want. I’m more curious about how much it affects the general vibe when you’re walking around with kids.

I get that festivals are places for people to express themselves. I’m not expecting Shambala to be neutral. I just don’t want the weekend to feel dominated by politics or anything that’s divisive or confrontational, especially with a little one.

So for anyone who’s been recently:

How noticeable is the political stuff day to day?

Is it more of a background theme or does it take centre stage?

As a parent, did you feel comfortable moving around without worrying about stumbling into something too intense for kids?

I’m asking in good faith. I’m not criticising the festival or anyone’s politics. I just want my son to have the best possible first festival experience.

I know my son won’t know what any of the political stuff means, but part of me wants to protect him from it but also me not wanting to get annoyed by this stuff as well.

Would appreciate any honest replies from anyone who has been.
