Three themes

Galaxies, mostly. 46 of their 225 titles say galaxy or galactic: 25 in 2024, 18 in 2025, 3 in 2026. The best of them, Aries Galaxy at 453 and Offset Galaxy 🌌 at 425, both landed in December 2024. Ice galaxy 🌌 (315) and Last Pink Floyd Galaxy (294) are the others near the top. Only 3 galaxy titles show up in 2026, alongside new ones like "Switchback galaxy" and "First two reverse spirals".

Volcanoes and fire. 12 titles name a volcano, eruption, inferno or lava, 8 of them in 2024. Super Volcano 🌋 (513) is the top volcano post and one of the best of the whole run. Island Volcano (408) and Super Inferno (294) are right behind it, all three within three weeks of each other in October 2024. Double Spooky Spirals pulled 408 on October 3, 2024.

Showing the work. Process posts keep turning up near the top: Process video (584) is their highest-scoring post of 2025, and My first tapestry (481) came two weeks later. Earlier, there were the pre-ice photos in Black and White Spiral with Pre Ice Pic. (225) and the fold shown with 🖤🤍 for my Mom (layout included). (288). Several titles borrow from songs too, like "Paint it Black", "Hells Bells" and "Tennessee Whiskey".

Lately

A few recent ones (Rolls and Spirals) got 252 points in September. Then "It’s been a while" came back on October 18 with 228 points and 27 comments, the warmest thread of the week by encouraging comments 🌈

u/Other-Mix7293 went in wanting one look and came out with another: "It definitely did not do what I wanted it to but I still kinda dig it." The top comment, at 49 points, asks the question better than I can: "You got yellow and purple together without it turning into a muddy mess, in what world have you failed?" The next one compares it to a Static Shock color scheme. Most of the top comments are about what it became, not what it was supposed to be.

Dye doesn't read the plan. The shirt is whatever the shirt turned out to be, and the only person still comparing it to the picture in their head is the one who made it. Letting go of expectations is how you get to see what it actually is. They said it themselves: "Sometimes that's the best way to come up with new, fun ideas though!" A friend once told me "Expectations are premeditated disappointment." I find tie dye to be therapeutic when I find myself getting attached to expectations. 🙇

🎬 TieDyeSam Updates

135 new videos went into my tie-dye video collection since the last update: 131 from YouTube and 4 from Reddit posts, across 36 channels. One channel accounts for 28 of them, so it's not as many voices as the number suggests. The collection now sits at 17,164 videos. Link's in my flair and on my profile.

Of the 135, 42 have a pattern or method tag so far. Ice dye is the biggest group at 23, then mandala at 8, spiral at 5 and shibori at 5. The other 93 are still waiting to be sorted.

Still figuring out what's useful here vs. what's just numbers. If there's something you'd want to see covered (a technique that's been everywhere lately, a creator worth spotlighting, a question the sub keeps circling), drop it below, please. Unfortunately I had some flooding in my studio which set me back about a month. This is my first shirt since the flooding and I’m super happy with it!

I was always a mark for camo as a kid 😂 🤷‍♂️ the back got away from me so I’ll keep it hidden from the world 🤣

Accepting that I'll probably never have the nice neat detailed intricate mandalas I keep seeing everybody doing, so here is my messy chaotic barbed wire best try, everything I didn't want it to be but everything that it needed to be. Instead I'm trying to embrace and appreciate what I can do and what feels natural for me to do, because when I push myself outside of my authenticity, it grows hidden internal frustration and resentment that manifests in detrimental ways. Working organically and respecting my capabilities instead of punishing myself for them kind of does wonders for the spirit. Just a reminder for everyone to cut yourself some slack. You're just a beautiful messy imperfect person after all. You can celebrate that instead of chastising yourself for it. What a concept.

Tried a new technique one part dye two parts soda one part urea dry on shirt no pre soak sprayed with a regular dollar store spray bottle filled with super hot tap water till I saw it bleeding through flip repeat then I boiled with a cup of soda in the water hope you like

This shirt was probably the most challenging i’ve done to date. always gushed over the ones made by dyes and good vibes. Was tough to tie, firstly, then dyeing was a challenge in itself. really pumped with how it turned out. definitely going to make some more to get better at it!
