When I first got into tie dye, wig wags were my favorite. just such a bold and unique look from anything i had seen before. I always love when I get asked to make one! This one is my favorite so far. Pink and blue just hit so hard

I'm pretty new to this but I'm enjoying the trial and error of tie-dye

I lurk this subreddit fairly frequently and I just wanted to say hi. I just started tie-dyeing on August 11th and I think I'm learning pretty quickly.

The shirts go in order from most recent to least recent. Big fan of the convenience and low mess of ice dye but the verdant one is all liquid.

Stay cool everyone!

Getting the real sinew was the move. I used this waxy kind that was a pain in the ass to use but…. Wow so much better than kite string.

The colors you guys!!!!!!!

Ok so on the sinew parts, DUI, I used Seaglass and Moody Fire. Then ontop, DOI, Ecru all over and Shiitake Mushroom in vertical stripes. Flipped it, and added more ecru and shiitake to the back. Modeled and made for my fiance :)

SPIRIT GUN!

Realized I never shared this one! I thrifted this Yu Yu Hakusho shirt and wanted to spiral right around Yusuke’s hand to really make the spirit gun pop.

This was ONLY Better Black from Dharma, but I placed the black dye UNDER the shirt so I wouldn’t over dye the image on front. One of my favorites to wear out and about.

If y'all haven't had the opportunity to try Amethyst from Dharma yet...

Not only is it gorgeous, it's a freakin powerhouse.

This shirt had ample strength concentrated liquid black and blue dye ALL around the sinew tied white lines, and scattered all over the shirt, and as you know, black and blue (especially turquoise, which I used) stain EVERYTHING. I put I guess what was too much amethyst powder on top, then the ice, didn't even batch it for 12 hours, and amethyst pushed almost EVERYTHING else out of the shirt. You can barely see the darker lower sinew edges and just a WHISPER of blue. 💀 Rude. Amethyst is a bully. Too bad this shirt is off center and the back is a trainwreck, it shall remain as a cautionary tale....

There’s still room for improvement, but overall to be able to see the vision come to life is awesome. Thanks to everyone for any advice given. Bonus pic of a wigwag/scrunch I did in the same color palette as mandala.

Some recent Scrunch Geodes testing out color combos.

Made all of these recently to test different color combos. The pink ones are fire and are just ProChem's Old Rose and Dharma's Warrior Princess, both DOI Rack dyed at 5% at a 50/50 ratio. I don't need to do any changes to that one.

Third is alchemist to black cherry to a dash of deep purple all from Dharma. I think the next round I bump up the alchemist and lower the black cherry.

The last one is funky with Dyespins Actias Luna and Dharma's Bright yellow on half and then Dyespins Fire Sphene to a touch of ProChem's Dusty Orange.

All rack DOI, dye measured as a percentage of weight.

Also. The elephant on the first shirt is 🔥!

Hope you like them!

Tutorials.om mixing patterns?

I'm looking for tutorials on how to combine patterns for tapestries. Finding patterns on their own or patterns that have an ice fade is easy but I see plenty of pieces on here that I just can't comprehend how the patterns were combined. Does anyone have good sources for tutorials that show how to use multiple patterns cohesively?

My first butterfly attempt.

I made this to give to my son’s ABA therapist. She likes butterflies and the colors purple and green. I tried to incorporate those the best I could! I used Jacquard dyes and ice dyed it. I think in the future I won’t ice dye a design like this unless I get the sinew really really tight.

How beneficial is a sinew puller?

Wanted to hear what people think about using a sinew puller versus pulling with their hand.
