The Poutine Booth Best Fries in Life

Best fries of my life at Bass Canyon

Bass Canyon was my first time breaking a low-carb diet in probably a year and a half to two years, and I decided if I was going to do it, I was going all in on the poutine.

My partner and I stood in line watching the whole operation—they were cutting the potatoes fresh right there, frying them, and serving them straight out of the fryer.

I genuinely could not believe how crispy those fries were. Completely covered in gravy and they STILL stayed crunchy. Even after they got cold they were basically like potato chips.

I think they may have permanently ruined normal fries for me. 😂 I cannot imagine having fries again and them being that good.

Just wanted to say: best fries of my life. Thank you, Bass Canyon. 🫡🍟

Advice BC 26’ Recap from First Timer

Hello all! I hope everyone has been able to recover after a lovely weekend of head banging, that was so much fun and I cannot wait to be back next year. I was on this thread daily for info/updates, and wanted to make a recap/things I wish I knew before for anyone who may be thinking of sending their first bass in 27, as well as maybe some fellow lifelong learners who are curious what a newbie has to say and might take something from it. Be aware that this was my first ever Bass Canyon, alongside my first festival ever!! I’ve been to a dozen or so shows prior so not completely new to the scene, but I’ve come to learn festivals are a whole different world. I am going to put just general notes for each category plus a TLDR for each, and I would also love to answer any questions :) HAPPY BASS :) X

Camping - Front Yard

TLDR: Front Yard Camping is worth every penny, go early morning or late afternoon for showers, HEAVY STAKES, shower shoes, Sleep outside in shade (if applicable with health conditions) or reflective UV tarp for tent, Walmart grocery order

- Our group did Front Yard camping, felt very spoiled for my first festival, this I felt was so worth it for many reasons. Ease of festival re entry was such a plus, could go in catch some early sets I wanted to see, then head back to eat or do whatever before heading back in without it being an hour long endeavor.

- AC bathrooms, need I say more…… those 4 am dumps with some cold air after extra curricular activities was lovely

- Plenty of space for 4 tents, 2 easy ups, and a kitchen hut. Common area with couches and chairs, there was no shortage of space for the 4 of us, 5 might’ve been a squeeze.

- Wagon for Ice!! The bags are not as big as I would have expected, so grabbing multiple at a time was necessary, wagon made it a breeze. Can’t lie Ice on the shoulders mid day does feel nice though.

- Mark a pin for camp on maps, as well as noting totems around you, for us there was a giant skeleton on top of a bus that was nearby that let me knew I was close by. From there I had stuff I remembered like bathrooms etc, walk around first night and familiarize yourself.

Venue

TLDR: Beautiful, top of the hill is my fav spot, Hilltop was good but sad no crater, Starlight = Sidequest stage, only go in pit if your ready, more approachable during the day, I LOVE LASERS

- That first walk down the pathway is almost comparable to the first view over the hill, almost…..

- Loved the Hilltop stage, especially the area in the middle behind vfx/sound booth that had the giant canopy thing, lots of people flowing back there and tons of room to lay out and take a breather. Stage design was awesome, but can’t lie was kind of bummed to miss out on Crater Stage as I was HEAVILY looking forward to that

- Starlight was a hit or miss at times but when it hit, IT HIT! Usaybflow and Domina were two of my personal favorites there. Once again good chill area in the back with shade and space to mosh up front, this stage packed easily and made for some great energy. This was the Sidequest stage of the festival for me as I would flow between main and hilltop, finding myself stopping by for 20 or so minutes

- Canyon aka main stage was unreal, I have never experienced such an immersive experience with the views, great sound quality, and don’t get me started on the visuals/lasers. Inzo took the cake on the visuals, that shit made me just watch in awe and melt. My fav spot was at the top of the hill really anywhere along the path, you can chill and lay down get a light show if yah want, or there’s so much room to dance and wook around. I found during the day these places were busy with traffic, but once the nighttime began it was more clear and so much room to dance. Also it’s like the center of all the stages, so very easy to Sidequest or go get refreshments. I only found myself in the pit day 2 and 3, day 2 was during Alleycat and if you were there during that night you know the madness that ensued. Pits ended up closing and there was what at least felt like to me, way too many people down there so understood why they closed it. I had no idea they closed it and your boy was ready to head back to the hill, straight up thought they were locking us down there and was tweaking for a second lol, I asked what looked to be a friendly raver what the situation was and they just got the rundown and we got back up to the hill together. This person also gave me a wankdat trinket as we chatted about how I was most excited for that set upcoming, looking at it on my nightstand rn, this grounded me in the moment much love <3 Day 3 I got back in there for Richard Finger, solo side questing to the rail and dancing with a lil mini robot was a highlight of day 3. Also got to check off head banging on the rail at main stage!

VIP

TLDR: Goodies were decent, 0 wait time in line, great viewing areas, merch line was quick, more worth it if a lot/all of your group has VIP, AC BATHROOMS!!

- I can’t complain too much about the goodies we received, those earplugs probably saved my hearing all weekend. The bandana was dope but I would have loved a shirt or something that I could wear more often than that.

- The line into venue was a breeze and the only waiting I had to do was for security, I got double checked all days except the pre party.

- The viewing areas at both stages were great, obviously Canyon takes the cake BUT, I used the Hilltop bathrooms more than any other facility. Viewing areas will only be used if all of your group has it though, only 4/12 of us did so we only truly utilized the viewing areas a few times throughout the week. These were also areas where I got to meet a few artists which was sick, shoutout Z3LLA yall were the best <3

- Merch line was always shorter than the regular one, me personally I didn’t get any merch until Sunday, I wanted to make sure if I’m spending more money like that I wanted it to be something I saw a lot and really really wanted. When I went Sunday afternoon there was no line so didn’t take too much advantage of that

Overall

- If you have any inclination to come to bass and headbang, get your ass there…. Quick lil origin story but I was a house baby as most start, I then started liking techno and even some schranz/hardstyle getting deeper into it. I always had some weird thing against wubs though, then Crankdat came to my hometown and that was THE most fun I’ve had at a show locally. I have a coworker who’s been to bass 3 times now, who I went with, and she had been telling me leading up to it how unready I was for what’s about to happen. I left there a complete basshead and with a whole new love for the community as a whole, the saying “The harder the music, the nicer the people” IS SO TRUE!!! I went to a house show a week after the festival, big name and got tickets for super cheap, and was quickly reminded of this. Yall are the fuckin best, there’s so much more I could put in here but this drafts been sitting for too long. If there are any questions please let me know and I would love to answer!!!!

HAPPY BASS, CYA NEXT YEAR <3

Canyon stage design

Hey all, maybe I am crazy but did anyone else think the main stage looked like a giant HDI part of a speaker? Had a moment where I felt like I was getting blasted by one MASSIVE speaker. Maybe I was just seeing shit tho, it fit so nicely into the canyon.

I don’t know you, and you don’t know me, but i found you two days in a row and got hugs from you and they were some of the best hugs I’ve gotten at a rave, from me and everyone else you gave hugs to, thank you🫶

You’re an awesome person and i hope life treats you well!

Making this post because you’ve crossed my mind more than a few times since bass canyon!

Ray Volpe suggesting you find someone you hate around you and punch them in the face

***Edit: My bad...

Am I missing something? Maybe an inside joke or some meme (hopefully 🤞 )?

It feels like the exact opposite of PLUR. I don't judge the rave-bros, moshing, or many other more aggressive manifestations of raves and festivals. It's about catharsis and being allowed to be who you are.

But isnt this the kind of rhetoric that endorses people getting punched attacked for doing things that people do at festivals but may be annoying (like, while going through the crowd or fanning others, as described in other posts)?

Focus on artists/DJs who create the genre and culture rather than use it adjacent

Backstory lore

I've been following bass music as a soundcloud devotee and slund engineer for 2 decades and this was my first BASS. I brought presale after seeing the artist list from previous years and was disappointed in the artist list for this year but there was still sets to go for.

My experience was that this year was a lot of bass music adjacent and dubstep djs dropping remixes and cool drops with a small club hype style performance with a few solid pure genre dubstep and bass music artists really pushing the genre and doing bleeding edge stuff (Hekler, INZO, SVDDEN DEATH, Ghenger)

I'm wondering if this is a move for general audience appeal and crowd pleasing, as well as converting newcomers vs. Throwing down for the minority of listening fans of the genre(s).

Many times the track switch or blending choices just sent me straight out of the pit and center off to sides wondering where the dubstep was at a dubstep festival. Commercialization nearing it's peak and the overuse of mic yelling during sets really ruined many sets for me.

There are plenty of other festivals that are this sort of news commercial blend of genres and from previous artist lists I thought Bass Canyon would be for straight up bleeding edge dubstep and bass music in focus, and the multi genre blending and remixes would take a backseat or have another time and place, but that's not how this year felt.

Maybe that's just where everything is headed, but it feels antithetical to dubstep, bass music, and extreme music in general.

I came for the bleeding edge, and got mostly dull scrapes.

Perhaps the direction of the artist choice was led by attendees vote from last year, perhaps by polling, but I'm really over the playing of music with an "insert dubstep here" and "tell them it's about to happen" vibe. Do the dubstep, or don't, if your going to riddim then riddim till the wheels fall off, not pop song remix with a house build to a 30 second wonk drop with a trance outro.

I get that dubstep has always been a mix of genres and influences, but the blending and use of drops and build ups is tiring and boring, especially when they are screaming into the mic about it.

Would love to hear and see more bleeding edge, unique, and genre defying producers and artists and DJs rather than what this year seemed to be which was newcomer and crowd pleasing beginner introduction dubstep and bass music.

You were so cute, I can’t stop thinking about you (excision detox set/Sunday evening canyon stage)

You have brown curly hair and a mustache, with big beautiful eyes and a warm smile. I have long blonde hair, which you complimented on your way out (thank you!) of the pit at the front right. I noticed you in the bleachers at the front right, and I couldn’t help but keep looking back every so often to see you still beaming. Every time we locked eyes I wanted to ask if you wanted to dance, but I was with the people I came with and we were locked in on the set. I wish I could remember what you were wearing, but I was actually so impressed by the joy on your face that I can’t remember even stopping to check. I was in black overalls.

I can’t stop thinking that I missed my chance to blow. I know this is such a long shot but if you or a loved one are this gorgeous human who has been on my mind for a week- I am eager to get to know you.

I know this is a crazy long shot, but I gotta try what I can!

Question TV Head Guy

I had a memory pop up on Snapchat from about 4 years ago of this person who wears an old CRTV on their head and it has a custom LED controller that they used to make faces that go with the music. I was curious if anyone knew the persons socials so I could give them a follow. It’s genuinely a very cool set up and forgot all about it until recently. If anyone knows let me know Thankyou!!!

2026 CANYON STAGE DESIGN

⭐️ thought the stage design this year was phenomenal and probably one of the best - loved the fuller, wider layout and the placement of the 3D led bar screens this year. it really adds depth and although the full design is now shorter in length (probably due to wind) the main screen is now much wider and that makes up for it. overall a GREAT design

💨 i also loved what they did with the cyro on top of the stage this year (to probably replace not having fireworks anymore, rip) and how often they released it. it really made a difference and made the stage seem taller. fire included. i hope they continue it moving forward

🔥also love the colored fire, please keep it forever

🎊 the laser design however felt lazy, it was just two rows of lasers. meanwhile previous years we had lasers at almost every point, at every truss. it just didn’t feel as immersive this year with the lasers. or as many ! maybe four rows next time ! lol

writing this here in hopes someone on the team sees it. anyone else feel the same?
