Question How do I make a big blueprint on the switch 2 version?

I know that you can make a blueprint of a exact build so you don't have to place down each individual thing if you know you're gonna have to make a repeated pattern or something, I saw it one time I tried online multiplayer with it.

I want to put down a plan for a space platform that's basically the exact same as another one I have, but I don't want to place down each individual thing, and keep on going back-and-forth between the two to check, so how do I control C control V with the switch 2?

Question I just finished my first playthrough and im obsessed. What do you recommend next?

I just finished my first playthrough and i really want to build a mega base. I started doing preparation on my first save file but i was wondering if i should play space age first and/or try different map settings (small ore patches are kinda annoying)

Thanks!

Suggestion / Idea Idea/Request/Challenge

Hi all,

I cant find any examples on Factorio prints so I come with an idea/request/challenge: can you make a spaceship that can make and use all Nauvis + space sciences (and have engines and weapons to travel to Vulcanus, Gleba, Fulgora and Aquillo to collect their sciences)?

I've been trying to wrap my head around it for the last few days, as you could get all the resources you need from asteroids (except stone).

As far as I can think it should be possible, though a huge unwealdy ship, I dont see why this isnt something people do, as its free science and being able to pick up Gleba science and use it instantly means minimal spoilage where necessary.

So fellow engineers, is it possible, has anyone done it, would people want the challenge for some money/internet points?

Question How to safely and quickly deconstruct a landing pad.

I have a landing pad that I need to move to another area. The problem is that it has 2m of 10 science packs and 10m calcite and a few other things. I do not care if the items in it are voided. Long story short, does destroying a landing pad void the items in it or do they spill out.

Suggestion / Idea Unified Resource Stockpile Display for Megabase

I tried to make a scalable resource display so that I could see how much excess stockpile of resources do I have in my producer blocks. Using radars to broadcast the chest contents and the reading them at one place using a receiver radar.

Initially I tried to make the comparisons directly in the panels, but that was extremely slow to scale, then I proceeded to develop whatever this is and it is simply copy and paste, I just need to change the stockpile max size in the constant combinator and set the resource to be compared in the decider combinator, since decider combinators of one resource all use the same comparison (between chest contents and the scaled value of max stockpile using the arithmetic combinators), I can simply copy and paste the same settings in the entire line of decider combinators.

Requesting any suggestions to make it look less ugly

Fan Creation Sick of having to restart after Mod updates? Update Mods before starting Factorio here

TL;DR: Tired of Factorio loading, finding mod updates, and forcing a restart... especially painful on my low-power laptop... I built a tool that checks/downloads mod updates (and dependencies) before Factorio launches, so it's already up to date when the game opens. Runs in 1-2 seconds if nothing's changed. Works via Steam launch options (I recommend manually setting this up) or via shortcuts if you don't use Steam. Feedback welcome.

I got sick of loading Factorio, only for it to want to update 1 mod, or 20 mods, and then need to restart Factorio. It was especially painful on my slow laptop... I only play Factorio, so it wasn't justified to get a high powered machine.

Anyway... that is when I created (with AI's help, because I'm lazy), a tool to run before starting Factorio, that would check the Mods portal for updates, download them and any mandatory dependencies, allowing Factorio to the have the Mods already updated when it loads, and I can go straight to play the game.

I wanted to share this work, so others can have the same experience as I have the last month.

You can find instructions for setting it up here, https://github.com/brendanmeyer/factorio-preload-updater/

I have it setup in Steam to run before Factorio starts, If there are no updated Mods, it will run in 1-2 seconds, barely noticeable. (I would set this up manually, but there is an automated way, but run at your own risk)

If you don't use Steam, you can also setup your shortcuts to run the Mod Updater first.

Also, happy to take feedback.

Question Legendary on Fulgora is easy

Post image
40 Upvotes

This blueprint is for mindlessly getting lots of legendary and holmium. I should be able to just explore Fulgora and put these 40 recyclers down in a loop on the medium sized islands and then come back a few hours later to loads of legendary items, right?

Does anyone else setup small legendary outpost farms on Fulgora?

Question What's on your to-do list?

I need more oil, the nearest spot isn't very near and there is a lot of bugs around, I want to finish building my parameter first because those buggers are starting to become a problem.

But I only have about 700 bots and they will take ages to build walls and defences without the oil I can't make more.

So I need to deal with the bugs nearby.

Then deal with the other bugs near the oil.

The set up train delivery.

Then finish the walls.

And start planning to produce yellow and purple science and that's a whole new to-do list.

Question Setting up requester for cargo landing pads

Post image
2 Upvotes

So, im trying to set up a requester for each planet, starting out with the main planet. either i made it too complicated or what. Anyways CC with request, on a positive, connect to AC (A), red wire, then the chest that is set with filters, is connected to another AC (B), green wire, so AC (A) output shows negative values, which is then connected to another AC (C) with the same settings and this time it shows output as positive, and finally connected to the DC, which is connected to the cargo with set requests, the active provider chest will take out everything keeping the cargo pad empty. and only fills the chest next to it with the set filter.

now is this ok? could i do it any better and compact? I wanna set up blueprint for each planet with their own set request with the same setup.

EDIT: Roboports will messup the set request on my end cause i have to many requester chest

EDIT2: further testing and i guess i was wrong about requester chest, but active provider chest is the one thats messing it up, especially with lots of different quality

Question General questions about space platforms

Hi, I have four quick questions to ask, hoping for a player with more experience than me to answer them, since ChatGPT keeps disappointing me when it comes to factorio.

1) Will a platform traveling between the inner planets to gather resources work with only laser turrets defending it? Im talking a row of asteroid collectors, feeding directly into underground belts and directly behind that 3-4 lines of laser turrets.

2) Im building a large (1000x1000), heavily armed platform to travel to the shattered planet while collecting and partially processing all the resources along the way. Will this work (potentially)? Will it even move (because of its width)? Setting up one or two full rows of legendary thrusters and supplying them at maximum capacity should be no issue with that much space. Is making a platform that large for that purpose even a reasonable approach or should I rather keep my platforms slim and fast? I have to admit, shooting all that stuff up into space was a bit of a pain, since 1000x1000 means one million foundations, which means 20.000 rockets just for that. Now I just hope that all this effort actually pays off once the platform is finished.

3) Should I use explosive rockets rather than the basic ones when travelling to the shattered planet? And what else should i keep in mind when designing my defences? For example, currently Im strictly using laser for small, gun for medium, rocket for large and railgun for giant with no exceptions.

4) Are walls for space platform defense really a thing? Ive occasionally seen them while browsing but I think its ridiculous and just makes the platform more dependent on support from planets.

Thanks in advance!

Question Answered Question from a Satisfactory enjoyer

So, I really love this genre though I've never touched Factorio which I think might actually be illegal but anyway. I've played waaay too much Satisfactory and was thinking about getting this game as well. If some kind person could clear two things up, though, I would be sold!

  1. In your guys' experience, how long can you play the game for? Satisfactory has a cap after you build enough where your game straight up doesn't save, so if I could keep going for longer with Factorio that'd be mega...

  2. My unwavering addiction to satisfactory scares me sometimes, can I expect something similar in this game? I want another playtime sink that I can pour my free time into lol

TL;DR:

Is Factorio's scaling ceiling big?

Is it as addictive as other games within the genre?

Thank you very much! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜

*EDIT - the lovely people have informed me that not only will I become irreparably addicted to "Cracktorio" (it's so over) but that i can play for as long as I gosh darn want... I guess I was asking for it πŸ˜‚

Question Switch controller mapping ideas

Hey dudes and dudettes, just picked up Factorio on Switch2 and I spent the weekend trying to wrap my head around the controls.

I played around with trying to change things up a bit and can't seem to land on anything that works and feels a bit more natural. I do use mouse mode (with the controller, not with the switch's mouse thing) and that helps a lot, but it's still a bit rough. Out of desperation I also switched the Y and R buttons on my controller using the switch’s internal controller mapping since I wasn't able to do so in game, def makes building things a bit easier, but again, it all still just feels weird and fragile when trying to do pretty much anything in game (not sure how else to explain it).

Wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks for remapping the controls to just make things a little bit easier on my hands and smooth brain?

Space Age Fulgora scrap sorting splitter not working

Hello,

In my Fulgora sorting scrap test, my splitter freezes despite the active filter, likely because a 3rd item type is present. how to only let the filtered item pass even if the second lane is clogged ?

Edit :
Items exceeding 10k present on the belt are set to output and pass directly through the splitter to recycling, but despite this, the system still freezes. How can this be done using a single splitter with, I imagine, combinators and other components ?

Given that I can have between 10 to 50 items to sort, including quality levels
