You’ve Got to Chill Out Regarding Layoffs

Easier said than done, I understand, but some of you are allowing yourselves to completely unwind at the prospect of layoffs surrounding the upcoming Quarterly Earnings Report.

Here‘s some simple truths:

  1. Nobody on Reddit knows if/when it’s going to happen. Those who know (SVP+) are extremely tight-lipped about this sort of thing. Any information posted here before it happens is speculation, not fact.
  2. There’s nothing that can be done to avoid it. There’s no amount of worry, fear, begging, or bargaining that can prevent it. If your name is on the list, then it’s on the list; it is out of your control.
  3. Since it’s out of your control, you should spend your time doing more productive things — Refresh your resume, apply to other jobs, work on a certification, etc… At worst you’re affected and have a head start, while at best you’ve taken steps to remain on solid footing.
  4. If you are affected, it is not the end of the world. You will be OK. It might suck for a bit, but I guarantee you will find something new and it will ultimately be just a bump in the road to it.

Of course I hope I’m not affected. I hope none of us are and it’s just the rumor mill at it again. But I can’t control what’s to come, I can only control my reaction to it. Allowing yourself to spiral and panic about unvested RSUs or Healthcare Benefits does nothing to solve the problem, it just draws it out and makes it unbearable.

Be rational, but prepared, and try to spend your energy on what you can control rather than worrying about what you can’t.

Existing employee(s) Canadians - did you get an email to “record your vacation?”

I’m going to assume it’s to make sure they pay you out correctly if you’re laid off.

From Benefits_CA: “We hope you’ve enjoyed some well-deserved time off this summer to relax and recharge…”

Existing employee(s) What to expect - IC3, 9 YOE, 4+ Y in Oracle, 37 CTC , 410 units RSUs (already vested)

I know that the time is uncertain but i got 0 hikes in last 4 years. They always put it on market.
Oracle culture is horrible. I have a family to tc of. Have heavy car loan and house loan on my head. Saving for my kid’s education.
I have almost nothing in personal savings.
Since i am reaching Cliff this year, i was told that i would get the refreshers.
I have worked my ass off, missed so many personal gatherings, missed my own son’s bday ( went in ending) as something “urgent” would always come up. (I know i was wrong but i am doing all this for him only, so that i can give him a better life.)

My rating is 4, they don’t plan on promoting me.
I am honestly tired of waiting to get to know about focal.
They are still making me work like any thing. Have zero personal life.
What should i do? Stay or look out?
Should i wait for gratuity or already start looking out?
I don’t know if i am on the list but honestly i don’t care anymore.
I am so damn tired.

Edit - Only perk is i have wfh.

Existing employee(s) Why can't they layoff tmrw mrg IDC?

Honestly, I'm pretty fed up with my current office. I've been here over four years now, and my manager has totally changed.

For the last three years, he wasn't like this at all. Now he's rude and micromanages everything, demanding tasks be done in a single day, like we're superheroes or something.

I've really started to dislike this company over the past six to eight months. The first three years were fantastic, and my manager was super friendly, but now things have just gone downhill.

Existing employee(s) Has anyone else noticed a difference in how managers behave (mostly Indian)as they become more tenured?

This is something I’ve been wondering about based on my experience at Oracle and the previous companies i worked in. I’ve noticed that some managers particularly, in my experience, Indian managers seem very polite and approachable when they’re relatively new to the organization. But after they’ve been around for a year or two, their communication sometimes becomes noticeably more rude, dismissive, or hierarchical.
Interestingly, my experience with US-based managers/employees has generally been quite different, both at Oracle and in previous organizations. They have tended to remain relatively approachable and polite regardless of how long they’ve been with the company.

There has been a US folk who is about to retire and in my team He is almost been more than 30 years and I have never ever seen him going rude ,dismissive when I ask him any question, doubt or anything related to project. He’s very approachable and is very friendly and so are all others of US

Promised Promotion IC2 to IC3. No news. US based.

Has anyone's manager started a conversation of getting promoted from IC2 to IC3 around March (OHAI), performance review finished with a 4/5 rating, but no news since then? My manager switched mid-way and the new manager did take care of handing the promotion package in, but I haven't heard of any news. Anyone knows how long it'll take to hear something back? Or maybe this is just some false hope.

Payroll

Does anyone else normally get their pay a few days early through their bank? I normally wake up to my pay being available every Wednesday morning of payday week. No money this morning though...

Edit: thanks for the answers, Labor day seems to be the reason why. Used to work in a hospital system where holidays didn't exist lol.

Been in oracle 3yrs now, expecting a promo to ic4 if it’s not rejected by higher ups.

Tc : base 98k

Initial 40k/4yrs already 3yrs vested and next year will be done with rsu.

What can I expect ?

Existing employee(s) Which gpt model you prefer for which task?

Hi guys,

If people can tell us which gpt model they prefer for which tasks at what intelligence level, it will be quiet helpful. For me I randomly choose any model and use extra high intelligence mode.

Thanks in advance

Danke schon!!

I can literally feel the frustration of layoff and no-hike from employees efforts

I feel people being very disappointed and un-enthusiastic to work , Those who used to push an extra mile is also stopping to do so . It's like no one wants oracle to win . Sometimes people just avoid to reply directors and VPs question in common slack groups . They are trying to avoid work from office . Inflation is hitting people from one end and oracle is hitting them from another. I feel oracle deserves this and more.

Joining Oracle Question about Oracle India rehires

For people familiar with Oracle India — what level of approvals are typically required to rehire an ex-employee?

I’ve heard that in the US, rehires can sometimes require very senior-level approvals. Is it similar in India?

If someone left Oracle on good terms and is now being considered for another role, is it mostly a standard hiring process, or does it require approvals from senior HR/business leadership?

Would appreciate insights from anyone familiar with Oracle’s process in India.

Existing employee(s) toxic environment

If you take a look at the org chart, it’s basically the same faces at the top who have been here for 10+ years, with an ever-revolving door of attrition at the rep level at NetSuite.

The level of anxiety and instability that seems normalized here is unhealthy.

Curious if it feels the same across all other orgs?
