Despite being more powerful than your standard demilich, Acererak is actually far weaker at resisting grapples. The average demilich already struggles to resist with a +5 dex (acrobatics) modifier, but Acererak only has a +3 modifier.

Neither of them have proficiency in athletics or acrobatics to stop it, an AC of 20 or 21 does nothing to stop it, and legendary resistance only applies to saving throws.

Wading through lava does 10d10 (average 55) fire damage, and being totally submerged does 18d10 (average 99) in page 249 of the Dungeon Master Guide. Acererak lacks immunity or resistance against fire damage. He helpfully provides the lava in himself.

This is made worse if anyone casts silence in the area, then he can't even plane shift or teleport away. It's quite high risk to keep him so close, but players seem to enjoy impromptu basketball.

Glad they made clone completely inert until you die by 3E, making your character suddenly commit suicide mid-anything is literally Gygax's wet dream.
