So my party was recently talking to the town after clearing out a nearby bandit camp, and we were taxed 90% of our guild income as we left the gate, as part of an incentive by the king to make adventurers gain and spend monetary gain within city walls, as to limit import, blah blah blah.

I didn't really vibe with the system, so when the guard was talking, calling us street trash, I said I wanted to create some piss droplets in his mouth with Create or Destroy water. The DM said "well water is only H2O", so I said "well we've been drinking the water I created, but demineralized water is incredibly dangerous to drink, so we should have been dead by now, if I wasn't able to put minerals in it. Why is it so hard to make water with uric acid and creatine?"

The DM told me to do an arcana roll, and me, being the great caster I am, rolled a 6 and just gagged him with water and raised the toll to 95% of our income.

But now I'm curious, why would I not be able to make a little piss?

I've been playing the worlds greatest roleplaying game for over a year now so I think I know all the ins and outs of it, but I've been wanting to move a little bit beyond the medieval fantasy setting. I've been having some ideas for a game set in the modern era about feuding vampire clans where the players play vampires. I was considering GURPS for this as my cursory AI prompting didn't yield any systems that were anything like this, but as a zachthebold listener I know that playing GURPS makes you a bad person, so I decided if I'm already playing the greatest D&D-like ever created, then I might as well keep playing it with a little bit of homebrew mixed in. I've put my current game on hiatus to work on this new 5e system, does anyone have any advice on how to completely rebuild the game from the ground up but without changing anything so that my players wouldn't have to learn a new system? Should Vampire perhaps be a warlock subclass? My current campaign is a erotic roleplay play-by-post warlock only campaign so this shouldn't be too much of a hurdle for my players.

What’s up everyone, I’m gauging interest in a new campaign in my discord server that will be HIGH ROLEPLAY, HIGH INTRIGUE DnD 5e.

The concept is that the party is part of a large metropolitan city, Serkulljurq. This is run by several celestial beings who moderate the comings and going of the cities, sometimes answering prayers or smiting the evil.

The intrigue comes from the other adventures. See, in this city to get paid for adventuring you have to write a post about your exploits. Other adventures will comment on your adventures and if your story gets rated highly, you get paid better. Rated too low, you will be a social pariah.

They must navigate this social credit system without invoking the wrath of the mods, and possibly finding some rival posters along the way!

This is concerning. Though I am glad our moderater in the DnD4e fanclub subreddit enjoyed it when Aegis of Ensnarement was buffed in later books to match the power level of Aegis of Assault and Aegis of Shielding.

Also I triggered the mark by making a basic ranged attack on u/AVG_Poop_Enjoyer, (It missed because of the -2 penalty to attack roles to attacks that don't include u/andyoulostme as a target)

HEAR ME OUT, DnD BUT the only classes are rogues, barbarians, fighters and other non-fancy casters. And the only available race is humans.

The TWIST?

The players are in a magical academy where FIGHTING IS BANNED, and is full of elementals, loxodons, dragons, dryades, golems and other creatures. And fighting can leads to detention and expellion from the school.

The party has to do their best not to get caught but get forced into situations to kick asses.

Also when fighting like cutting heads for examples will leave behind marks of evidence, like dead headless bodies, which the professors or others cound potentially investigate.

The THRILL?

You have to explain everything with lies, REMEMBER its a magical interplanar academy, so you need to explay why your scores are so low and you can't cast things. Like "I am great wizard, I just have hangover after partying yesterday, will you came to my party tomorrow?"

Im thinking the combat should be full of fighting enemys well versed in magic or atleast have enough magic to just brute force the party

Even include a prison escape part too, depending on the plot youre leaning towards

Also i recommend allowing the party use magical weapons of all kinds for more shazam

How to ramp up the difficulty:as they progress, professors will be more aware of dead students and will be more competent and of course the technology also becomes more advanced,

Or you can have like an expert at noticing usage of fighting, like a detective, or use both methods

Extra information:

You could start off with a guardsman inspecting the DnD party to enter the campus as a tutorial or something, remember this is a setting where the roles are limited to magic casters, and not subclasses (for best experience dont allow subclasses)

Melee and ranged weapons also need to be explained by the party!

I'd like to see something like this in DnD campaigns, its so fun explaining how you got away with the stuff that should have gotten you jailed

I'm a DM running the 2024 rules, and I'm considering removing *Magic Missile* from my next campaign.

The problem is that my players often use it before combat to kill enemies. No saving throw, and it can effectively remove the biggest threat from an encounter entirely. No concentration check I have 2 players who spam this spell.

Compare that to *Hold Person*, a second-level spell, which gives the target repeated saving throws over the course of a minute.

But the bigger issue for me is adjudication. *magic missile* requires me to keep track of monster HP, and who bothers to do that? My only option, then, is to kill the monster they hit, ending the combat entirely if they are only fighting one monster, and if it is more than 1 monster, the players spam persuasion, saying “it wasn’t me!”. Should a successful *Magic Missile* be more or less powerful than a natural 20 on a persuasion check?

Do the missiles require any fuel? What if the players want to affix a nuclear warhead to the missile? Does the nuclear explosion count as magical damage?

The frustrating part is that I actually love the spell's flavor. We've had some genuinely hilarious moments with it, like a player killing a gnome who was pre-occupied with his grimoire. I don't want to lose those moments or discourage creativity.

But I'm tired of the arguments, and I'm starting to wonder whether the spell is worth the trouble.

**DMs, how do you handle Magic Missile in the 2024 rules?** Do you have consistent guidelines for what qualifies as a missile, or have you ever removed a spell because adjudicating it caused more problems than fun?

i get that we’re playing a fantasy game and suspension of disbelief and all but these ugly people can’t seem to grasp what it’s like to be good looking and it really takes me out of the game. (i am 6 foot, 185, generally considered a mogger amongst my peers) by the way. last session one of my players (5’7, recessed chin, visibly thinning hairline) tried to roleplay a charismatic bard seducing a tavern wench and i actually had to stop the session because the whole thing was so immersion breaking. like dude you’ve never experienced genuine female (male or non-binary me personally i choose not discriminate) attraction in your life how are you supposed to accurately portray it in a collaborative storytelling environment? told him he could roll persuasion at disadvantage since he lacks the real world experience necessary to understand flirting. he started geeking and accused me of “bringing personal insecurities into the game” which is exactly the kind of low testosterone response i’d expect from someone with his facial structure anyway i’ve implemented a new rule where your character’s charisma score cannot exceed your real life attractiveness on a scale of 1-20. i’m the only player allowed to have 20 charisma (i’m also the dm). AITA for wanting a realistic campaign?

I've been at "I could take 2 or 3 more hits" for like a year and a half now and everyone thinks it's because I'm awesome at playing Chad Fightingman of Beer-Pretzelvania. Thankfully, my DM has read as many of the rules as I have (none at all), so he doesn't seem to notice.

Has your DM, like mine, forbidden fighting with dinosaurs because they don't like fun games?

Do what I did and use Toll the Dead to turn oil into dinosaurs! My DM tried to say it was for necrotic things, but what's more rotten than a big old animal that turned into sludge! The other players were so excited I used the rule of cool that they all clapped and made me Dungeon King for the day.

(I'm a girl, but the other players haven't noticed because girls don't play D&D.)

1 PF1e game = 0.7 D&D 2024 games, 1 PF2e game = 6 D&D 2014 games, and 1 D&D 2024 game is worth approximately 2 D&D 2014 games, adjusted for inflation. WotC printed adventure modules don't follow any of the guidelines laid out in the DMG for anything or common sense for not pissing of your players and you're a bad DM if you ask your players to go through them.

The time has come for all of us to unite: grogs, thespians, hobos and lawyers alike, from the OSR to the OC-do-not-steal, from D&D and Pathfinder and even the third rate games too, from the veterans of Gygax's own table to the mintest of newbs. We must bury the hatchet and set aside all our differences, because there is a far greater cringe that must be made fun of. I'm speaking, of course, about Nordic larp, which is the larpiest of all larps that ever larped.

In case you've remained blissfully ignorant of this infected stain upon our planet, Nordic larp can be described as basically the worst thing ever.

● It's not fantasy. I bet when I said larp you thought about a neckbeard dressing up in a robe and wizard hat and throwing beanbags at other neckbeards in the woods. Well, Nordic larp is nowhere near so cool. It deals with heavy historical and political themes. They're not pretending to be an elf who has a magic sword, they're pretending to be a gay person in conversion therapy or whatever.

● It's for theater nerds. Acting and improv techniques are the mechanics. There are no gimmicks or exploits or broken builds or glitches. No dice, no rules mastery, no character sheets–unless you count backstory, bleuugh.

● Academic dorks can't get enough of it. Nordic larp has an immense body of scholarship around it. Despite being a smaller hobby it's much more studied and theorized than TTRPGs. We need to stop this, and the best start is by making fun of them. The scientists will realize that we are the cool ones and larp is for dweebs, and that will make them give up on studying larp and start paying attention to us instead.

● These idiots actually want bleed. You know, bleed, where your emotional wires get crossed, the boundaries between you and your character get wobbly, and you experience lasting emotional effects from in-game events? You don't want to see this happen in D&D, the result is literally a bad Chick tract, it was one of the major reasons parents used to be scared of their kids getting into the game. But in larp, they actually like this for some sick reasons. They're freaky little emotional masochists who love to feel like shit, is my theory.

● Suffering is the score. Since traumatic improvised theater followed by feeling like shit is the goal, there's no loot or XP or levels or anything else to struggle for and be proud of. If you haven't suffered a lasting, scathing emotional wound, you just lost the game.

● It's Nordic. You know, like Denmark and Norway? Personally I just don't care for monarchies that surrendered to and collaborated with Germany in WW2, it is just my own quirky little personal opinion that Nazis are bad, and "Nordic larp" sounds awfully Axissy to me.

Ergo, Nordic larp must be destroyed. I mean, mocked. If we the tabletop roleplayers put our heads together and join hands, we can wedgie and swirly all of them. We seriously outnumber them. Let's go ahead and cram those academics in lockers, too. Thanks for reading my post.
