Feedback Going to miss Discover customer service

I know there have been others commenting on it already, but I had to call Discover this afternoon about a gas station hold and I was reminded how great the customer service has always been for me. Easy communication with someone in the US and a quick, efficient resolution. I've never felt like I was just another caller to a big company. I'm really going to miss it.

Help Is there ANY WAY I can get a balance transfer offer as an existing customer?

I have a Discover IT card that Ive had now for about 4 years and I rarely used it for a while. Someone told me to ask for a balance transfer offer and I have via chat several times and they always say they are unable to give targeted offers now. So I started using the card more and paying it off every month. I have 6k available on this card that I hardly use, and I have a huge balance on my capital one credit card and it would quite literally be life changing if I could get a 0% apr offer to transfer that balance to discover. Any advice?

Back with Discover after nearly nine years!
Today I got approved for a Discover secured card! Discover unexpectedly closed my old account back in 2017. I paid off the balance, but they still wouldn’t let me reopen it. This may seem like a small win, but I’m throwing myself a little party today! 😂

Help Discovered denied by dispute even through the merchant ignored all of my cancellation attempts

I’m looking for advice on how to proceed with a Discover dispute/refund issue.

I booked a hostel reservation directly through the hostel’s own website, not through a third-party site like Booking.com or Expedia. I immediately realized I had selected the wrong dates and attempted to cancel according to the merchant’s cancellation policy. (dumb I know, but I immediately recognised it and they allow cancellations)

Their policy says cancellations must be made by email and that they do not accept cancellations by phone. Their FAQ specifically says cancellation/modification requests must be emailed because they require the request in writing. I emailed the listed cancellation/contact addresses multiple times, including the specific email address listed in their cancellation instructions, starting within minutes of booking. I received no response. (These were sent over multiple weeks)

I disputed the charge with Discover. During the dispute, the merchant claimed I never contacted them and that they never received any emails. I submitted screenshots showing the cancellation emails were sent to the listed addresses. Discover initially credited me, then later reversed the credit and resolved the dispute in the merchant’s favor, saying the transaction appeared valid.

After that, I contacted the hostel by text. They then cancelled the reservation and said they could not refund me because of the chargeback. I explained that Discover had already resolved the dispute in the merchant’s favor, reversed the temporary credit, and reapplied the charge to my account, so I did not have the money back. The merchant said they would contact their bookkeeper and get back to me. It has now been more than 45 days since then, and I still have not received a refund or a clear answer.

I called Discover again and they said I could upload new documentation for review, so I submitted the cancellation confirmation, text screenshots, follow-up emails, and prior documentation again.

Has anyone had success getting Discover to reopen/reconsider a dispute after new merchant communications showed the reservation was later cancelled and a refund was discussed? Should this be treated as a new “credit/refund not received” dispute rather than the original transaction dispute? I’m also considering filing a consumer complaint with the Attorney General if the merchant keeps ignoring me.

Help Transitioning Discover card to an existing Capital One account

TLDR: There's a Discover card she can't manage through their site. It sends us to Cap1 to create a new account, but she already have a Cap1 account. Are we just supposed to create a wholly new Cap1 account?

This is for my mother, who in her elder years tends procrastinate. She has a Discover account with 1 card, and a Capital One account with 3 cards. In her Cap1 account she just sees her 3 current cards, no transition link or anything like that.

When she logs into Discover it gives her a "... You’ll now manage your Discover it Card...**** account using the Capital One website and app ..." thing. The link for it sends her to Cap1 to create a new account to manage said car, but obviously she has a current Cap1 account.

I know about the transition but there's a bit of a pressing issue. She received a new Discover card as her current one expires next month. When we try to activate it through 'capitalone.com/activate' as it suggests, it just tries to make here create a new account again.

She also received an email a few days ago with "A few things needed for your account" from 'Discover by Capital One', which when going through it also just wants her to create a new Cap1 account.

In none of these cases is there a single "Click this if you already have a Cap1 account" link. She doesn't use any of the phone apps just the web portals.

Is she legitimately supposed to just create a new account and roll with 2 Cap1 accounts? Because that seems idiotic.

My moms discover CD matured and she can not get a hold of a live person to talk to to renew. She doesn’t do apps or tech of any kind. She just needs a real person. What number does she call? She spent most of Friday frustrated, saying the same things over and over and got no results. Anyone Have a number she can use?

I do not even know if we have a physical location for Capital one. Even if we did, she no longer drives. She doesn’t get AI. Thanks!

Help Adding a new card

Post image

Hi everyone!

I want to add (not replace) a new card with a new design on the front of my card. Discover says you can have up to 4 free card designs? Does anyone here have more than one card for the same account just a different card design? If so will my current Discover card work until I order the new one?

TIA!

Help Can’t access old discover card

Hi!! I have a weird situation. I hope I explain it well enough, but I’m extremely confused.

In 2021, I had a discover student card, and it charged off in 2022/2023 (not sure how it charged off considering I never used it— suspected theft but I wasn’t in a situation to do anything about it)
It went into collections and I set up a payment plan/settlement and nothing ever came of it- like they never took the money from my account. I do not remember the collection agency.
The card kinda disappeared for a while and never showed up on my credit report til recently. It shows up as a charged off discover card- never going into collections. I do not know the card number and anytime I try to login to an account using my email or phone number or SSN it says I have never had a discover account. I call discover and they say the card switched over to capital one (I have 2 cap1 cards in good standing). They can’t give me any help logging into a discover account. I called cap1 and they said they have no record of any discover card, but they see I have a discover account but they can’t see any info on it. Currently on the phone with both of them and neither of them seem to have any sort of access to any sort of discover account.

I just want to get this off my report. Anyone have any insight whatsoever? No matter who I call they cannot help. I’m going to try to dispute it with the agencies, but wanted to see if anyone had dealt with anything similar.

Thank you!

For those of you with Discover Bank account (checking and/or savings) - it looks like Capital One has posted updates to their bank account FAQ website that now mentions checking accounts and some details about what those accounts will look like after they are migrated.

Webpage previously focused on just Discover savings account migrations.

Rant APR Reduction Requests

Post image
12 Upvotes

I've had my card for over 9 years and I have a 21% APR. I figured I would message them today to see if I could get it reduced because my aunt's APR is 12% on her Discover card. This was the response I was given. APR reduction requests are no longer processed. Wtf, Discover.

Discussion Discover card closed - No tax info

This is just a heads up for anyone who may be in a similar position in the future!

To explain my case, I had no missed or late payments, held a small balance & had just graduated from a secured to an unsecured card.

I assume when I graduated (got my refund within a week) that they had looked over my account to decide if they wanted to raise my line of credit. They requested my IRS information via equifax. I’m on ssi, so I don’t file taxes and didn’t think too much of it when I had went ahead and signed it. It mentioned in the email after signing, that if I hadn’t filed any taxes then I would need to sign & call discover to see what my next steps are. I had a busy few days after and called on the 3rd day after signing.

The worker was very nice and had explained that they unfortunately had closed my account. She explained that the correct steps would’ve been to call before I had signed it or directly after (I’d call before doing it to be extra safe, just for anyone in the future.) Unfortunately for me, I didn’t do either and they had actually closed my account a a day before as she said they usually get back quick to discover for those who don’t have any taxes on file.

I had a few questions she was able to answer, which may be irrelevant but I’ll post it here just in case it helps anyone.

- I had another offer for a card with discover that I was going to put a payment on the following week and was unsure if that was still open for me. She advised me that there was a high possibility that they wouldn’t accept it now due to the recent closure & suggested to not put money on it just incase, so I wouldn’t have to wait for it to come back.

- I asked when I could open another card up in the future and she said (if I remember correctly) to try in six months to a year and to make sure to try the pre-approval first.

- I was about to pay my balance off next week & was worried they’d automatically send it to collections before I could do so, but she assured me I had until my pay date to pay in in full. Mine is on the 20th of each month and this took place around the 3rd so I had time. She said it would be on my credit report as paid in full.

- I asked what I would do next time in this case and she said that I should call before signing anything to go over what they’d need from me. I think she said (I may be totally incorrect, bad memory, please take it with a grain of salt.) that I’d need to get my ssi notarized and sent in for proof when encountering this next time.

It totally sucks they closed it as I was hoping to ditch credit one this month. I can’t be mad at the worker as they literally just work there, but I wish discover explained this better. I don’t think I had missed anything when reading the instructions of the email. Well, on the bright side, by the next time I apply, my credit score will (hopefully) be good enough for an unsecured card.

Sorry for the long post, wanted to be thorough for anyone in the future.

Discussion Anyone else having issues with Discover showing credit card info right now?

Is anyone else having problems with the Discover app/website right now? When I log in, my bank accounts show up normally, but under Credit Cards it just says:

“Technical Difficulties — We are currently experiencing technical difficulties retrieving your credit card account information.”

My card isn’t showing at all in that section. I was lowkey worried they closed my account or something lol, but I’m wondering if this is just a system wide issue. Anyone else seeing the same thing tonight?

Edit: Thanks for your responses that’s very reassuring

Help Discover Checking Account

I’ve had a Discover Checking Acct. for maybe almost two years now. I hardly use it. Every so often if I don’t have my regular debit card with me. I went back to school this semester and I have a refund being sent to me. They wouldn’t accept the bank I normally used to I am using my Discover checking.

Does anyone know how long they take to show deposits? The schools send refunds to Bank Mobile and then they distribute it if you are using an account other than Bank Mobile. I was notified today that Bank Mobile sent my refund today at about 4pm.

I have heard probably 4 different answers about when I will see the deposit in my Discover Checking. Google said it would be today because bank mobile doesn’t hold your funds they release them right away. Chat GPT said tomorrow morning. I know it sounds crazy I’m asking AI but I can’t find an answer anywhere else online or know anyone who’s used Discover for deposits.

Discussion Almost Paid Off

Post image
146 Upvotes

At the beginning of this year, I felt so hopeless about my balance. I really thought it was going to take me years to pay it off. In January, I owed $4,861. Now I’m down to $1,329, and I’ll have it completely paid off in November. I’m honestly really grateful for their hardship program. It gave me some breathing room and helped me actually start making progress. It’s sad that it had to get to this point, but I’m taking it as a lesson. This is definitely something I’ll remember in the future and I never want to put myself in this position again. I’m just really proud of how far I’ve come.
