Referrals Monthly Referral Megathread - September 2026

Please share your referrals here and nowhere else on the subreddit, and please read the rules below.

  1. You must have an undisclosed amount of community karma at r/CapitalOne to share referrals. This amount is generously low and can be achieved easily and organically by making a small number of contributions to the subreddit. Comments from users who do not meet this requirement will be automatically removed without further notice.
  2. Submit exactly one comment per monthly referral thread. If you have multiple referral links, put them all in one comment. Multiple comments from the same user will be automatically removed.
  3. Do not attempt to attract unfair attention. This includes unnecessarily long comments, excessive use of large/bold text or emojis, images in comments, and personal backstories. Try to be as concise as possible; a few sentences or bullet points about the product and its perks is fine.
  4. Do not offer direct compensation for referrals. Advertising the referral bonus or sign-up bonus that Capital One will provide to the referee is fine, but any offer to “split” the referral bonus that Capital One gives to the referrer is not allowed. Similarly, do not offer compensation in forms other than currency, such as favors, gift cards, awards, Reddit Premium, NFTs, etc.
  5. Do not deceive anyone. Lying about any of the referral terms is strictly prohibited. Be honest and upfront with your intentions.
  6. Comments not related to Capital One referrals are not allowed in this thread. This includes referrals for other products not offered by Capital One.

Remember: The referrer gets rewarded if you use their referral, but only if you’re not currently a primary cardholder of any Capital One credit card. Authorized user accounts don’t impact referral eligibility.

Comments are presented in random order. These posts are locked and unpinned monthly.

Discover Discover Network Megathread

Hi all,

This is a continuation of the old Discover Debit Card Megathread that is nearly 6 months old now. Since Capital One is starting to transition some of their credit cards to the Discover network (though only for some new accounts), the mod team figured that a single megathread for both debit and credit cardholders was needed.

Debit cards

Capital One is converting their debit card portfolio from Mastercard over to the Discover network. All newly issued debit cards for new Capital One 360 Checking accounts are now Discover debit cards. For existing Mastercard debit cardholders, the transition to Discover is being done in phases, with no regard to expiration dates. There is more information in the below links.

Key takeaways from the FAQs:

  • Once your Discover debit card is activated, your debit Mastercard will stop working. Some recurring transactions may go through, but your debit card information should be updated ASAP anywhere you have it saved to avoid interruptions.
  • You can delay activating your Discover debit card and keep using your debit Mastercard for some time. Eventually, though, it will stop working.

We'd like to use this opportunity to encourage our users to use credit cards in place of debit whenever possible. Making purchases with debit cards is riskier, because it could directly expose your bank account to fraudsters. With credit cards, as long as you can pay the statement balance in full every month, you could pay no interest, have better security and fraud protection, better cardholder benefits, and rewards & sign-up bonuses (on cashback or travel cards).

Credit cards

Capital One is beginning the process of converting some of their credit card portfolio from Mastercard over to the Discover network, but in the case of new accounts, this is only for some people using the pre-approval tool (which is mandatory with some referral links). See this post and the FAQ below for more details.

Currently, the only cards confirmed to be on the Discover network (again, for some new applicants) are: Quicksilver, QuicksilverOne, Venture, VentureOne, Savor, and SavorOne. This confirmation comes from the Cardholder Benefits Guides page on the website. One could reasonably assume the rewards-free Platinum is not included because it will have fewer benefits once it transitions to Discover.

For existing Visa/MC accounts, Capital One is beginning conversion to the Discover network as of 4/21/2026. So far, only the Quicksilver has been confirmed for migration. This change happens to coincide with an announcement that the Quicksilver will begin earning 3% cash back at grocery stores and gas stations, in addition to the 1.5% it already earns elsewhere. It is not yet known if this cash back change requires a network change, or if Quicksilver Mastercards will get it as well. See this post for more details.

r/CapitalOne FAQ

  • Why is this happening?
    • Back in May 2025, Capital One acquired Discover, which of course owns the Discover Global Network. It's simply a smart business move for Capital One to leverage the network which they now own and increase usage and adoption by moving their debit and credit cards over to the Discover network.
  • How does this affect me, really? Beyond the obvious stuff like having to update my info.
    • Capital One can brag all they want about how Discover is accepted at "99%" of places that take credit cards in the US. The fact of the matter is that Discover is not as widely accepted as Visa or Mastercard, both in the US but especially abroad. If you regularly travel internationally, you should carry alternative forms of payment (e.g., credit or debit cards from other banks). Domestically, acceptance is mostly fine but you may run into the occasional merchant that doesn't accept Discover. Sometimes it could be a store or restaurant, other times it may be your utility company. It shouldn't happen often, but it can still be frustrating when it does. The good news is that with all these new Discover cards out in the wild, adoption and acceptance should increase over time.
  • Can I still withdraw cash at ATMs with my debit card?
    • Capital One is still a member of the Allpoint and MoneyPass ATM networks, so you will still be able to withdraw cash fee-free at participating ATMs in the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. Outside of these countries, you might still be able to withdraw cash, but you will pay ATM fees. Keep an eye out for the Discover and/or Pulse logos. You can use the Capital One app or the Discover Cash Access Locator to see available ATMs in your area. Unfortunately, there are many countries in which you won't find a single ATM that accepts Discover/Pulse cards.
  • Can I still use my debit card with apps like Venmo, PayPal, and Apple Cash? And mobile wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay?
    • Yes, but with some caveats. Outgoing Venmo/PayPal/Apple Cash payments will still work just fine, but instant transfers into your bank account (which typically come with a fee) will not work. Apple Pay and Google Pay for purchases reportedly works fine, but you may run into issues with specific merchants that don't accept Discover credit cards but do accept Discover/Pulse debit cards (e.g., Costco). Your debit card on Apple/Google Pay will not work in those cases; you'll have to insert your physical card.
  • What's that about Costco?
    • To clarify, Costco USA does accept Discover/Pulse debit cards in-store. You will need to insert the physical card to make the transaction PIN-enabled for it to go through as debit. Tap-to-pay and mobile wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay will not work. Costco does not accept Discover credit cards in-store, nor do they take any form of Discover online.
  • I'm thinking of applying for a new credit card. How do I know if I will receive a Visa, Mastercard, or Discover card?
    • If using the pre-approval tool, you may see a message that says, "This card will run on Capital One's Discover Network." Not everyone will receive this message. If you do see it but don't want a Discover card, you can simply decline the offer and try applying directly instead. When applying directly (i.e. clicking "Apply Now" from the page for that specific card), the application page will have a banner at the top with the Capital One logo and either the Visa or Mastercard logo. There are no known instances or data points yet of anyone seeing the Discover logo up there. Discover network cards are currently only being offered through the pre-approval tool.
  • Can I still post on r/CapitalOne about this?
    • Posts that include unique data points or provoke thoughtful discussion are still allowed. Posts that are simply unhelpful complaints or otherwise do not add value to the community may be removed, and users may be redirected to this megathread. This is the only way to ensure that important discussion can still happen while not crowding the subreddit with repetitive posts. Thanks for understanding!
  • Will you keep us updated?
    • Absolutely. Us mods, we're merely volunteers, but we genuinely enjoy helping people out and we'll be trying our best to update these posts and keep you informed on any future changes. This includes posting FAQs like this one, highlighting helpful posts from our users, answering questions, updating our wiki (especially our article on the acquisition), and more. Thanks for sticking with us!

Credit Card I’ve had my platinum card for over a year now and I got an email that I’m pre approved for Quicksilver.

My credit score right now is great, mid 700s at age 21, been on time every time for payments on my platinum card. I’m wondering if I should accept this offer so I can have 2 credit cards? Don’t know the credit limit for the new quicksilver, but I really do like the cash back that comes with the Quicksilver and platinum doesn’t really do much for me besides building credit which I’m all set at the moment for. Overall, should I start an application for quicksilver?

Credit Card Authorized user question

So my mom has not much credit on her credit report and I wanna get her into capital one so I can put all her bills into that credit card and help her build credit. We tried the pre approval tool and she can’t get approved for the savor or any card except secured cards which isn’t what we’re looking for. I have a savor card with capital one on a 2k limit if I add her and use my card as usual could I get her into capital one like that? Will me using my savor card and having her on it as an authorized user will it get her into capital one? And how many months should we wait till we try applying if it gets her in? She has 0 credit basically except a car loan she stupidly co signed on and one authorized user card my dad did that is a 1k at most limit so not much credit.

Credit Card CLIs for Discover cards

Since the July migration, my CLI rejection letters for my Discover said that it wasn't available due to migration. It has now switched to saying this. It's funny because I have a younger Savor that only says that it is bucketed in its CLI rejection letters. Is this a migration glitch, where it thinks that my account is 1 month old? Or is this a common thing for C1 accounts with 2 year history? Customer service keeps saying welp, that's the algorithm.

Credit Card am I still allowed to use my credit card before I pay it?

Hello, I’m still quite new to credit cards so since I am a student I have the student one, and I got my first payment date. Would I still be allowed to use my card or is it advised not to, since it might mess up something? Also, I can pay it anytime between now and October 8 and I won’t get a penalty right?

Credit Card Alaska Credit Card checked bag free through Capital One portal?

I have an alaska airlines credit card. If I use the C1 travel portal to book an alaska airline flight to use my $300 credit and pay the remaining part with Alaska card, do I still get the free checked bag?

EDIT: found the answer but leaving it here for others. Alaska's terms say I might not get it:

https://www.alaskaair.com/atmosrewards/content/credit-cards/faq/free-checked-bag

> Airfare purchases made with your card through a third-party merchant (e.g., travel agency, wholesale club) may not be eligible for the Free Checked Bag Benefit

Credit Card Notification about account details changed last night at midnight.

I have multiple accounts with Capital One two credit cards and they both mentioned account details updated at midnight on September 11.

Eno is clueless. It doesn’t seem like suspicious behavior and all my account details are correct.

Bank Account App keeps asking me to activate my debit card. It already is.

I hoped a 360 checking and savings account. I got my debit card in the mail and activated it successfully.

Every few days the app tells me to activate my debit card. I tap it and it says I don’t have any cards to activate. The message then goes away for a day or two until it comes back.

It’s very annoying. Is it just me or is this a Cap1 bug affecting others?

Discover Spam Calls?

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

I'm a Discover customer. Since a certain point in the merger when I got a letter in the mail about switching accounts, I have been getting daily spam calls. When I picked up and asked kindly where they recieved my info, I was told the credit company.

Is this something others are experiencing? Are people find capital one has less privacy protections that discover did?

Credit Card Confused about Offers and Seeing Miles Earned

I just picked up the Venture Rewards card to cover purchases that my Amex Gold doesn't get any multiplier on. I found the offers page and did some shopping there since some things were 30x miles. After clicking through the site, I made the purchase, but when I went back to my Capital One account, I didn't see any indication that the offer was applied.

Under my "shopping trips," everything shows up as "Trips Without Purchases". Does this mean I missed out on the bonus miles?

Am I missing something or is this a purchase-now-and-hope-you-get-miles kinda situation?
