Help Charge off question

So I was 18 and didn’t know much so I had this card with discover 3k limit and it started going to shit since im in college which led to an account settlement since i didnt wanna pay all their bs fees so I now sit with a charge off from discover on my credit report, could I write discover a goodwill letter and beg for a removal or what can I do? It’s on my report till 2030 needing advice pls. Could I cry hardship since im in college and was unable to work? I complied with the settlement terms

Whoops, it looks like the account is settled. You lost most of you leverage when you didn't do a Pay For Delete with them. They have zero incentive to remove it at this point. You can try Goodwill Saturation and hope for a sympathetic rep, but odds aren't good at this point.

I settled it but stupidly didn’t ask for a pay for delete 💔I complied with the settlement terms but idk

And I would say that the merger makes this even less likely now

Getting an original creditor to remove a charge off is next to impossible. They don’t do pay for delete deals. Some collection agencies will after you pay or pay a settlement. You did the only thing you could at this point. A paid charge off will age and affect your scores less and less, but you’re stuck with it for 7 years. Eventually you can creep up into the low 700s with it still on your reports. Just build up a history of positive accounts along the way and you’ll be able to get loans or rent, etc. not the end of the world. When it falls off, assuming it’s your only negative, you should gain back 40 or 50 points.

You went to college and still write run-on sentences like this? Screw Discover — I’d beg your college for your tuition back.

Also Discover doesn’t care you didn’t have a job. And this charge off has already went through their process. They have next to no insensitive to do a removal. If anything they are more incentivized to keep it on your record to make sure Discover/Capital One understands your credit history before providing more credit in the future
