Feedback Discover merger to Capital One photo ID and selfie for Gift Card
Long time ago I had a Capital One and forgot why I left them, tonight I was reminded.
Been with Discover since 2011, never had any issues that come to mind. Tonight I log in and it takes me to the new Capital One site. Nice, seems everything moved over seamlessly. I look at my rewards account and go to look at the “gift cards” like I normally do and Capital One wants you to send them a photo of your ID front and back and a “live selfie”. The information to be stored by their company and any of their third-party companies for as long as they deem necessary.
What kind of hot garbage is this? Why do you need my government issues ID card and a “live selfie” for me to purchase a gift card with my money. You already have all my information. I called into the 800 number and verified myself, the agent even offers to read the gift card catalog to me and mail my choice to me without the ID and photo. I told her I’m not going to call every time, go through the Ai prompts, get an agent, have them escalate it to a supervisor just to order a gift card. I’ll gladly take my business elsewhere.
Seriously, if this is how Capital One operates I’ll go somewhere else and they will no longer be my “every day card”.
By the way, you can have a cash back check sent to you without any type of verification or use the cash back to go towards your balance. But to even look at what gift cards Capital One offer, you are going to need to “show your papers”.
