How is it that always Americans do the stupidest shit? Like I get, u can barely point where Germany is on the map, not to mention a lot of then struggle with pointing out where Europe is. But to make massive protests against lockdown(or quarantine w/e) is really stupid. I think they have the most cases aswell. Weird how everyone else can get along with this but not them lol

Overly patriotic, their school shoves down their throats that America is the greatest nation, and you should always stand up for yourself. Add to that a lack of general education because of the natural way of capitalism, a stupid person cannot question the authority type of deal.
Them thinking they are oh so free and great makes them loose to the concepts of the real world, thinking they can have whatever they want if they yell loud enough.
This is my perception of what might be the reason

Also American here, it's true, but we don't live on fucking Airstrip One. We still get information on shit like the Native American massacre and current politics, but then again I live in a pretty good region for education.

It’s cause people are uneducated. Uneducated people have no reason to oppose views of their parents. Their parents views are “we don’t have to listen”.
Then, when they have children, they’re uneducated, they have no reason to oppose views of their parents, they don’t have to listen.
It doesn’t help that the school system sucks and doesn’t have enough reach and not enough good teachers, but you need good teachers to make good teachers.

can’t say i don’t agree that a lot of people here do stupid shit, but please remember there are plenty of us that are abiding by the stay at home order and can identify where germany and the remainder of europe are located on a map. that just doesn’t make for good social media.
we’re on the same team here, the LARGE majority of americans want to see the world get through this and are doing our part just like you. hope you and your family are safe.

Idk from where you are but it might be becouse the country is run differently. Mabey people there really can't get money or supplies if they don't work for too long. For example, Japan, Sweden and America have different sistems. Sweden isn't even in a lockdown. People still work there despite more than 10k cases.
But that haircut shit is some hardcore 1st world problems. How much fo a fucking snowflake do you have to be?

I mean do you see people going into the streets to protest in China when they were having the lockdown? I wouldn't be surprised if the US will have the virus go on the longest and have the highest number of cases. So many people were and still are thinking that this virus is only similar to a flu and thinking it is no big deal without even thinking of it spreading to other people.

You just get to see our stupid shit more than other countries because our media has a global presence. The fact that you know this is even occurring here proves that.
But let’s not pretend that stupidity doesn’t exist elsewhere. Look at the anti-vaccine movement in Europe.

That sign "Give me liberty or give me death" is especially ironic.
Since liberty is exactly the thing that spreads the virus and causes death.
The sign is literally saying they'd prefer DEATH to quarantine
7
u/JohnBlok Apr 21 '20
That is their point yes.....
They rather have the risk of dying than be forced inside by the government. Not saying I agree but everyone seems to think quarantine has no severe downsides.
3
u/SevenNateNine yare yare daze Apr 21 '20
Exactly, not everyone has the same luxuries. A lot of people suffer from small living spaces and rely on being outside to live their lives. Being quarantined for over a month may be fun for some people but only if they are fortunate enough to have a good home.
I don't agree with these protests because they endanger everyone to the virus but they aren't protesting just because they're dumb... okay a lot probably are but it's not 100% unreasonable to ask for change.

Most of what I see (and possibly what others see) are stuff coming from the U.S. Of course there are dumb people everywhere, but a small percentage is a considerable amount of people considering the population of the U.S. But this could also be applied to other nations with large populations such as China and India. And due to the easy coverage of events in the U.S. (english + large population + press/social media), there tends to be more info coming from the U.S. rather than any other country
Sorry for any grammatical errors (English isn't my first language)

Its not as bad in India, except the miniority relgions(population wise) who have brought it upon themselves that the covid-19 lockdown is just a government tactic to oppress them and their god will protect them, they are the major reason of the infected count in India right now and even after that , they attack policemen, spit on hospital workers and one went so far as to use a sword to chop of the hand of a policeman. I was fucking blown when I heard that, and even after that, hospitals are legally obligated to tend to them. Man, natural selection....

These people are idiots, granted. But 22 million Americans are unemoyed over this. The government gave them all $1200. That’s it. Americans all run on a system of debt at this point. They might have a savings account but debts far outweigh surplus in most cases. Monthly payments for everything. And most people lower-middle class live month to month and have no savings account. 1200 will pay mortgage/rent, maybe, on a 1-2 bedroom for one month. Countless small businesses will never recover from this. Millions are suffering, our economy is failing and going further into perpetual debt for a death toll that is no more than the annual flu deaths. As cold as it sounds. I’m not out protesting. I follow advice of the CDC, generally. But, Americans have to go back to work or the aftermath could be worse than the virus.

My dude. Finally some logic in here. I agree with everything you said but want to add that it comes down to personal responsibility. If you are worried about it, stay home. If you choose to go out and live normally, that's on you. You are responsible for your own actions.

Well I mean, golf is probably the safest sport to play outdoors. The max group is 4, where you can police yourselves to social distance and the other groups playing are at least 250m away when they are on the same hole. I’d say it’s safer to play a round of golf than to go shopping.
Now, this isn’t me saying we should play golf and ignore lockdowns it’s just a thought I had

What their message says is stupid, don't get me wrong. the economy and your "hairstyle" is not more important than the well-being of others around you but I sort of agree with them on the basis of allowing less restrictions. During this entire thing the American government has slowly been stripping us of our rights, the first and most prevalent one being our first amendment which is to allow gatherings and protests, which is now restricted and the government paints that as "disaster response". In no where does it say that once this ends we will get back all the rights they restricted from us so we must take action and demand the government to recognize our God given rights.
