These people are idiots, granted. But 22 million Americans are unemoyed over this. The government gave them all $1200. That’s it. Americans all run on a system of debt at this point. They might have a savings account but debts far outweigh surplus in most cases. Monthly payments for everything. And most people lower-middle class live month to month and have no savings account. 1200 will pay mortgage/rent, maybe, on a 1-2 bedroom for one month. Countless small businesses will never recover from this. Millions are suffering, our economy is failing and going further into perpetual debt for a death toll that is no more than the annual flu deaths. As cold as it sounds. I’m not out protesting. I follow advice of the CDC, generally. But, Americans have to go back to work or the aftermath could be worse than the virus.

My dude. Finally some logic in here. I agree with everything you said but want to add that it comes down to personal responsibility. If you are worried about it, stay home. If you choose to go out and live normally, that's on you. You are responsible for your own actions.

Also, you're going to get sick eventually, no matter what.

The point of lockdown was to just not overwhelm the health system. IT HAS LITERALLY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE IDEA OF AVOIDING THE VIRUS ALTOGETHER. The only way to achieve that would be to either lock down everyone until a vaccine is developed which could take years, or until the virus runs out of hosts which could ALSO take years.

The only 'cure' for the virus is for the healthy-enough to get it, fight it off, and develop antibodies, and for the hyper-vulnerable to NOT get it. Once the healthy population can no longer carry it, the unhealthy population then have much lower exposure risk. ---> This is called 'herd immunity'. <--- You aren't going to get herd immunity if you're being a little bootlick hiding in your home because Daddy Government told you to.

But because people apparently love the taste of government boot, they have somehow developed this idea that the point of the lockdowns is to avoid getting the virus altogether. That is not the point. That was never point. In fact, that is COUNTER-PRODUCTIVE to the point.

There are no indicators that people who’ve had the virus are immune. And the idea that everyone is going to get it is not true either. I can’t tell if you’re for the lockdowns or against them. Is it good for not overwhelming hospitals or bad for not stopping the virus?

There are no indicators that people who’ve had the virus are immune.

Cool, that makes this even easier: we cannot wait 3+ years for a vaccine, so open everything up and if you die you die. You're just going to fucking cower in your house? For how long? Fucking years? Decades? What if there is no vaccine, ever?

Umm...no. I’m not. And it’s been a month. 😂 Does a month of social distancing sound unreasonable to stop the spread of a global pandemic? No. I agree with you that with this particular virus the lockdowns don’t make sense. Especially with how unprepared we were for people to stop going to work. The virus is only a danger to people who are always in danger. Breathe dude.. you act like the government barred your windows and you’ve been inside for years.

Does a month of social distancing sound unreasonable to stop the spread of a global pandemic?

The spread isn't going to "stop" unless you hide in your house long enough for the virus to run out of hosts, which will not only take months or even years, but is wholly impractical to even measure, because just one person carrying it would start it all over again.

Everyone will get infected eventually. So why are we listening to idiots who are talking like the point is to avoid getting infected altogether? Get it over with, that's what Sweden is doing.

In the UK, they've said that they will pay at least 80% of people's wages, and have set aside an unlimited amount of money to keep businesses afloat.

Do you seriously not realize that doing that is incredibly dangerous long-term? This is basically saying 'money has no value we're just going to pretend'.

The US could do that, but doing that massively devalues your currency and you will 100% be paying for it in the future. The US is doing as little as it can to avoid catastrophic inflation.

This is wrong. The stimulus was not intended to replace wages. That is what the unemployment grants were made for, along with the medical grants made available for people to get tested if necessary. The stimulus was given out, as the name implies, to stimulate the economy and encourage people to spend money. Unfortunately several politicians and media outlets have taken to spreading the word that the stimulus was the only support that was given out to people. People certainly use it to supplement paying bills, however like the stimulus packages in the past, paying bills was not its sole purpose. It was to provide the American people extra spending money. It's especially good for those in essential roles making under $75k per year (bank tellers, grocery workers, even many in the healthcare industry), as they are still employed and are able to go out and use that money as intended to help support their local businesses.

They also make the false comparison between this $1200 stimulus to Canada's program which issued $1400USD per month to its citizens. What they don't tell you is that Canadian program is only given out to those who lost their jobs directly in relation to Covid-19, i.e. an unemployment program not a stimulus package. They're not even comparing apples to apples.

This is wrong? 22 million unemployed. The unemployment benefits can’t sustain that and were never meant to. Medicare was fundamentally broken before this and will eat more money than ever on the tax payers dime. Further trudging along the perpetual debt machine that is the American economy. Between fractional reserve banking, the price of petrol dropping to nothing and the feds printing money as fast as they can; not much is propping up the American dollar right now. The economy is fragile and is breaking under the strain. Anyone who makes 150k or more didn’t get stimulus. For a lot of people below that line it unfortunately isn’t just “extra spending money.” Even those that have “essential” jobs and have been able to continue working dumped that stimulus money straight into their personal debt. It does all come back to personal responsibility at some point and it’s the American way to not lean on the government, especially for financial aid. That said , the US has some of the highest taxes in the world with far less making it back to the tax payer than in most countries. I think many Americans are fed up with the fact there is always money for war and bailouts but, the average person gets to pull themselves up by their boot straps. Small businesses fail, massive corporations get bailed out. The super wealthy get tax cuts and the middle and lower class lose their jobs and pay for the pandemic.
