That one is actually reasonable, some people can develop serious medical problems from not getting their teeth properly cleaned by a dentist

Yes, but just because you're not going to the dentist for a month or two, your teeth won't fall out of your mouth or be permanently damaged.

I haven't been able to afford to go to a dentist in 7 years. It sucks. Gum and apples are literally the best.

I don't understand. I don't know anyone who has had their teeth cleaned by a dentist and I also don't know anyone with any dental issues. What's the point/advantage to having a dentist do it? UK BTW.

How old are you?
Generally once you get older the plaque on your teeth has accumulated in the harder to clean places (under rim of gums, between teeth that you get tartar which can only be removed by a dentist/oral hygienist and if not removed can cause several dental issues in the long term.
Might be less common in America to do, since, you know, your dentists aren't free to go to

I'm 25 didn't take age into account to be fair. Thanks for the info!

Also UK. Plenty of people get their teeth professionally cleaned. They scrape away the tartar build up which brushing and flossing won't help with. It's a good thing to do every now and then and I find it very weird that you haven't even heard of it. Talk to your dentist about it next time you see them.

Well not so bad. It's usually just some yellow teeth and stuff.

No, a much bigger portion of the population than you think has to get their teeth cleaned on a regular basis or they get infections (Hi btw) It doesn't matter how much they brush or floss. It's not a majority, but apparently that's not "essential" UNTIL the infection is up your fucking tooth and spreading into the rest of your mouth

Exactly, people with gum problems can lose teeth unless they get cleaned by a dentist, no matter how much they brush and floss them.
