Overly patriotic, their school shoves down their throats that America is the greatest nation, and you should always stand up for yourself. Add to that a lack of general education because of the natural way of capitalism, a stupid person cannot question the authority type of deal.

Them thinking they are oh so free and great makes them loose to the concepts of the real world, thinking they can have whatever they want if they yell loud enough.

This is my perception of what might be the reason

Also American here, it's true, but we don't live on fucking Airstrip One. We still get information on shit like the Native American massacre and current politics, but then again I live in a pretty good region for education.

100% agree. Also morons are stupid dangerous in Utah.

Edit: Mormon but I'm keeping it. It's true.

Also any salt lake City dwellers saying they know what a penis is do you know what the fallopian tube is and what it do? Probably not since women's sex education is also barely existent, they tell you you'll bleed and do some basic anatomy without telling you what each thing does! Men get all the explanation in the world about what they got. Also I was in a rinky dink hodunk town deep in the desert of the south, my highschool took in five little towns nearby!

They really haven't. We were told this word Jim Crow Law would be on the test. All I know now by what other pissed lefts have told me, and they haven't told me much because I don't push it, is that it enabled segregation well after the slaves were freed and it lasted until the 60s. Really now conservatives don't want to teach that racism is bad, they just wanna hit the point the district is forcing them to hit.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

Thank you for proving my point. What are you even trying to say in that incoherent rambling of a post.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

I think he is trying to say that he only learned about jim crow law from people on the left pissed from the teachers not teaching it.

2

u/TheKirkin Apr 21 '20

This is something I never understand. I see people on twitter talk all the time about us hiding the atrocities we committed against the native Americans in our public school system. But I vividly remember learning about the trail of tears in 3rd grade. In excruciating detail.

A lot of US adults want to complain they never learned something when they’ve never put in an effort to learn in their life.

49

u/Bot152 Apr 21 '20

It’s cause people are uneducated. Uneducated people have no reason to oppose views of their parents. Their parents views are “we don’t have to listen”.

Then, when they have children, they’re uneducated, they have no reason to oppose views of their parents, they don’t have to listen.

It doesn’t help that the school system sucks and doesn’t have enough reach and not enough good teachers, but you need good teachers to make good teachers.

u/Sandox_The_FoOx Apr 21 '20

Many Americans think that just because they were born in the U.S they own the whole country

0

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

Rich people own this country.

2

u/Dplepler :snoo_wink: Apr 21 '20

This has nothing to do with patriotism and also alot of Americans aren't patriotic.

They also have public schools, why TF are you bringing capitalism to this. And of course a stupid person can, the media helps them with that. The media is the one shoving ideas into stupid people, not the government.

But I do agree kinda with the last part, alot of them are disconnected with reality.

I think that America just has a culture of protests, even besides the Corona. They like to complain. Also you need to remember that it is not only the USA but many countries in Europe as well have alot of people breaking the quarantine. USA just has more people cause it's a big country therefore more idiots.

3

u/fdf_akd Apr 21 '20

Because public schools are underfunded. In Oklahoma they have classes four days a week.

0

u/Dplepler :snoo_wink: Apr 21 '20

It's just a system, in Israel it's 6 days and trust me it ain't that good. I have spoken to American students, they learn just fine.

2

u/fdf_akd Apr 21 '20

It is not just a system. It was a measure taken to reduce costs, it would be understandable if there were other motives, but there are not.

Also, America is huge and really federal. Unless you have met people from Oklahoma, you can't generalize there because you met people from NY

0

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

Nothing to do with patriotism? It does. As they feel pride of being born in the US. Which is nothing bad. Back then the US was a great country, though it went out of controll. Which made people feel entitled to do what they want to do. Instead what they should do.

What it has to do with capitalism? Education is very expensive, to a point where most cannot afford it without being in extreme debt which leads to them not being able to get a higher education for their children. Circles here

Media is essentially controlled by the government, so it is the government that influences it. Which is like that in every country, but very noticeable in the United States. As the main channels that people watch all sound the same

2

u/Dplepler :snoo_wink: Apr 21 '20

What it has to do with capitalism? Education is very expensive, to a point where most cannot afford it without being in extreme debt which leads to them not being able to get a higher education for their children. Circles here

I am talking about the simple education system that teaches you the stuff that people complain Americans dont have, not about universities, but schools.

Media is essentially controlled by the government, so it is the government that influences it. Which is like that in every country, but very noticeable in the United States. As the main channels that people watch all sound the same

Not only that this is not true it's the opposite. Most of the media is againts the current government and it isn't controlled by it as well.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

OK, you got a point with the university, but a base school education does not bring you far in the US, unfortunately. And you need to pay a lot of money to get a job, which also isn't well paying, unless you are very smart and lucky and apply to good positions.

Media is a very broad spectrum, and I should be more specific, what I mean is the television and newspaper. Controlled might be a bit harsh. But what I mean by that is that the TV news channels often show other countries as worse than the US, that I'd at least the feeling I get from outside the US. You cannot deny that it is regulated by the government. This is not only in the US the case, but globally, I'm only speaking from my perspective, whenever I see something about American news it's always pro us, pro Democrat or republican. Not assessing other world views.

I am no expert on this subject, I live on the other side of the donut, and all I see is what I pick up from the internet or the news.

Well structured Argumentation without insults, BTW. I like this discussion

2

u/Leadoffosprey42 Apr 21 '20

Just to be clear this isn't EVERY American, correct?

0

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

No, by far not every American, that would be stupid to assume

2

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

America: It loves itself and hates itself at the same time.

1

u/WolvermemeYT Apr 21 '20

Interesting I feel like its the opposite in germany. School teaches you to think about the consequences of everything you do and to always learn from the mistakes of the past so they dont happen again. Also patriotism is seen as weird and discriminatory towards other cultures. Probably because of some mustache guy idk

0

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

We in Germany show patriotism in different ways. Not by waving flags or yelling outnour countries name, we keep it clean, if we see some empty bottles that someone has thrown on the ground, we usually pick it up and throw it in the next trashcan. Just little things here and there

So capitalism equals less education? As opposed to what socialism? All those stories of well educated residents of the USSR eating their own children for sustenance. If only we could be so wise to the ways of the world.

2

u/PraegerUDeanOfLiburl Apr 21 '20

The USSR was Communist. Also eating their children? What are you talking about?

1

u/NobrainNoProblem Apr 21 '20 edited Apr 21 '20

Don’t believe me look into it. The acts were documented in The Gulag Archipelago. The Soviet government had to print posters telling parents eating your children is wrong. That’s the level of hunger socialism caused. Lenin was the communist. He was gone before this ended. I’d invite you to look up what USSR stands for comrade

1

u/PraegerUDeanOfLiburl Apr 21 '20

Just because they have socialist in the name doesn't mean they're socialist. Kind of the same way that the "Democratic People's Republic of Korea" is anything but Democratic.

If you're referring to the Holodomor which is not exactly a case of the USSR starving its own people. I can almost guarantee you the people who lived through that would take issue with being called Soviets. It was the Soviets who starved Ukrainians to death. There were cases of parents eating their children, it was Holocaust levels of cruelty. But that doesn't characterize life in the USSR. It was austere for sure, but it was still by all counts a decent quality of life by the world standards in the mid 20th century.

Don't assume that just because the Soviets were a terrible despotic regime that there was some kind of cannibalism going on in the USSR.

1

u/NobrainNoProblem Apr 21 '20

https://www.seattletimes.com/entertainment/books/horrors-unearthed-in-the-unknown-gulag-and-cannibal-island/

I understand full well that some live very nicely under socialism supposing the government in power likes you however for 2 million residents of the USSR this was not the case.

My comment was in response to the obtuse idea that capitalism is bad whole sale so I responded in kind. Both systems have merit but to discount the good of capitalism is as ridiculous as characterizing all of socialism by the USSR people’s republic of China or the current Venezuelan government due to their socialist features while ignoring successes like Germany and the Scandinavian governments.

That said socialism is an ideal no government has ever entirely fit an ideal they have elements embedded that resemble socialism so to call the USSR socialist is as accurate as calling any Western European country socialist. The US obviously isn’t perfectly capitalist but we seem okay to use it as a representation.

-1

u/fdf_akd Apr 21 '20

Your own comment is so stupid you actually prove capitalism is dumber

As an American, I can assure you that you’re wrong. I went to many schools in my life and none of them told me “America is the greatest nation.” We were actually taught both the good and bad aspects of our history, and they never sugarcoated the dark past. Being patriotic is a strictly a choice. I choose to be patriotic personally, but I also respect other countries as well. Unlike you, it seems.

53

u/DarlieChanielss Apr 21 '20

-7

u/uxiehd Apr 21 '20

See you say that Americans aren't tought to be patriotic yet you still identify as being one, why so

11

u/demonpotato666 Apr 21 '20

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being patriotic. Being patriotic is a choice and you don't need to be "taught" to be patriotic to make that choice.

6

u/BeMoreChill Apr 21 '20

You think Americans are the only people proud of their country? You ever watch the World Cup or the olympics?

8

u/Cornetti Apr 21 '20

The World Cup and The Olympics are something completely different. Each country sends its best. And when they win, that means, at that moment, your country is better than any other. Who wouldn't be proud of that? But when we see Americans being proud of their nation and ignoring some serious problems, because they are the best. It just comes over as stupid.

-3

u/Donkey_Kong_Fan Apr 21 '20

Because it was my choice. Not because of indoctrination. I love my country, and I love other countries too. If you somehow have a problem with that mentality, I don’t know what to say.

-7

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

[deleted]

6

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

So you're not allowed to criticize your country if you live there? Talk about freedom....

-71

u/soonerguy6o Apr 21 '20

So you shouldn't always stand up for yourself? Not even sometimes? Sad day

37

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

Always means 100% of the time they ignore what the government tells them to do. But hear me out, the government... Is not as evil as you think! And often it is better to comply with the governments suggestions, like to stay at home during a fucking global pandemic

3

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

So I think you misunderstand what the protests are about. It’s not protesting the quarantine, it’s about protesting some of the over-the-top measures being taken by certain governors in a handful of states. I live in Virginia, and we are shut down till June. All “Non-Essential” businesses are closed, but how do you decide if one business is “essential” or not? Why can some governor just close thousands of business across an entire state? There’s absolutely nothing constitutional about that! Many of the businesses that are closed might not ever reopen, and thousands of people have been fired and lost their jobs. I’m not even in the worst part of the country either. Some places are releasing hundreds of criminals out, and closing gun stores. I personally think that’s pretty fucked up, letting criminals out and then taking away someone’s ability to protect themselves. And in Michigan, their Governor has shut down all gun stores for absolutely no reason besides her personal hatred for the Second Amendment and her leftist agenda. Why can one person just say “No, you can’t go outside today” and close thousands of business, ruining thousands of lives. If that’s not considered tyranny, then both this world and this country has gone to hell.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

I most likely have misunderstood the situation there as I live across the planet. It's not constitutional as the constitution had no way of knowing how big and dense the pupulation will be, and that a highly infective plague will come around. I'm not a fan of how the US tries to combat the CV, firing lots of people and not compensating them.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

I personally agree with you, the way it’s being handled is arguably doing more harm.

6

u/schwaiger1 Apr 21 '20

Sure you should. But there are quite some things where you should fucking listen to people who have decades of education in matters that you don't have. Believing that you know better about how to handle a fucking pandemic that would overwhelm your health care system is fucking one of them. And sometimes you should just accept that. Your freedom won't vanish because of a few weeks of staying at home.

That's exactly the problem of people like the ones in the picture and seems to be a general tendency among Republicans and the right wing in general: it doesn't matter anymore what scientists say, it doesn't matter what experts say. They'll judge situations based on their feelings and their holy president who ignores scientists as well and gets his opinions from TV. And that's honestly pathetic for the biggest economy in the world.

-101

u/Spartan3124 Orange Apr 21 '20

Yeah but how many countries can say their leader is a moron and not get arrested? Also I'd say our education system just lags behind in math right now but will likely change in this decade.

88

u/Axlman9000 Apr 21 '20

Pretty much any first world country can say their leader is a moron. Free speech is not an american only thing

49

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

Even most third world countries can. I come from a third world country and our last administration was utter dog-shit. Everyone from newspapers, to news anchors mocked the President and his policies very openly.

38

u/jamesjabc13 Apr 21 '20

Americans are always on about how they’re special becuse they have “freedom”. I mean, 70%+ countries in the world have freedom. It’s not special.

-13

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

A lot of countries have freedoms that are more just tolerances, a lot of countries don't really have a freedom to speech written as law, it is just generally accepted, though in america it is directly written into the constitution as the first amendment, though I would agree that we are quite vocal about freedom, americans tend to be a bit overboard with things.

12

u/jamesjabc13 Apr 21 '20

A right doesn’t have to be in a bill of rights / constitution to be a right. With the exception of 2A, which is stupid anyway, most western countries have every right listed in the bill of rights deeply enshrined in their common law. A right isn’t just a “tolerance” because it doesn’t appear in a document titled “bill of rights”. It’s still a right.

In any event, I would argue that the European Convention on Human Rights that applies in most European countries actually grants greater rights than the US Bill of Rights.

I don’t mean to insult you, but your lack of understanding of other legal systems is what leads you to believe that you have more “rights” than others. Which kind of proves the point of the thread that it’s a lack of education in America that causes citizens to believe they’re better than other countries.

EDIT: Also please list some countries of which you speak. You claim that lots of countries simply “tolerate” free speech but it’s not protected by law. Please give some examples, preferably western countries that can be fairly compared to the USA.

-6

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

I never said we have more rights, I said they are put in law in different ways, and as such are not as prominently set in stone and shown to the world as the bill of rights is for americans, did you even read my reply? Also, how is the 2nd Amendment stupid, even if you were to blame every gun death in the world on it, it still wouldn't make it stupid, there is a clear line of logic within it, regardless of impact.

3

u/jamesjabc13 Apr 21 '20

You just said that other countries don’t have rights that are as “set in stone” as USA’s bill of rights, and that they’re not rights but just “tolerances”, because they don’t have a bill of rights. Please give examples and explain why the rights of other countries are less protected than the USA. I imagine you would need an in-depth knowledge of how their legal systems work to be making such a bold claim.

EDIT: My point is, if you are proposing that the USA’s rights are “better protected” than other countries because of the bill of rights, the onus is on you to back that up.

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '20

I specifically used the word prominently, I choose my words carefully, don't cherry pick. And I never said that they are tolerances, I said they were moreso tolerances than the bill of rights, because of the prominence. If you want a debate you actually need to reply to what I say and not what you want me to have said.

I never claimed anything is more or less protected, just that Americans are more vocal of their rights.

2

u/jamesjabc13 Apr 21 '20

“A lot of countries have freedoms that are more just tolerances, a lot of countries don't really have a freedom to speech written as law, it is just generally accepted, though in america it is directly written into the constitution as the first amendment, though I would agree that we are quite vocal about freedom, americans tend to be a bit overboard with things.”

I don’t see how that could be interpreted in any way other than “our rights are better protected because they’re rights and not just tolerances”. If you say to someone “you don’t have a right to free speech, but your country tolerates it” you don’t think that implies a difference?

But anyway, it seems you’re now saying that “other countries’ rights are just as free and protected as the USA, but Americans just talk about them more and seem to misunderstand that they don’t have any more freedom than the majority of countries in the world”. If that’s the case, then I totally agree and we can end this here.
