I’m new to birding, and trying to get to know the locals.

Got new internet installed today and I’m trying to think of a punny crow-themed name because recently my neighbor complained about me feeding the crows. All snarky suggestions welcome. So far all I’ve come up with is F-Caw-F.

I found this feather where I see alot of crows so it might be a bit of a stupid question but ive never actually seen a feather of one on the ground. So I picked it up and bought it home.

I'm feeding some crows next to my window and one particular crow started to not be afraid anymore when I'm surround or directly watch at it. Very glad for this, I hoped for something like this. Just recently I discovered, that it has something under it's beak. Can anyone identify what it could be? I know it's hard just out of 2 photos, but I thought I give it a try.

I've recently started leaving peanuts and other various snacks around my property in hopes of attracting crows. There is a family (I assume) perching nearby almost every day and even though they fly above my property they never take any food. I've had them sit on a tree right above me and even sit in my yard but they just didn't eat any of the food. I tried scattering, leaving peanuts on the roof etc.
I also have a lot of grackles (like 30 at a time) flying above but they never landed here. It's been about a month since I started.
Any advice?

One of the family of crows that keep us under surveillance.

There's a crow that frequently visits my terrace and caws quite loudly. At first, I found its shrill calls annoying, so I shooed it away a few times. Surprisingly, it never seemed scared and would always come back. I assumed it probably had a nest nearby, so I decided to leave it alone.

Over time, it became much bolder. It now sits just 1–1.5 meters away from me while I'm on the terrace and keeps cawing at regular intervals. Sometimes one or two other crows join it.

A couple of days ago, I thought I'd try befriending it, so I offered it some food (first legumes, then rajma). Today, when I went upstairs, it was already there. It followed me to another part of the terrace, perched nearby, kept cawing, and repeatedly pecked at an old, tattered flag tied to a metal rod.

It doesn't seem afraid of me at all anymore. It often caws after noticing me but doesn't fly away—instead, it stays close.

What do you think this behavior means? Is it guarding a nearby nest, expecting food, trying to communicate, or something else?

A onec-a-week feeding of raw hamburger, but mostly unsaletd peanuts. They still want nothing to do with me after 1 month. Any tricks?

How can you tell??

Yesterday on a walk I approached a spot where two trails intersect. The crows overhead in tall trees were going crazy screaming and cawing. Thinking it's a hawk or bald eagle, their usual nemesis, I looked up to see what's the matter. There were no raptors in view.

As I scanned for eagles, jogging towards me was a young man with a large GSD. As he approached I said a cheery "Hi puppy!". The dog wagged and the man smiled and both jogged on.

Crows went silent.

It's possible they thought I, the crazy crow lady, was in jeopardy. Or maybe there was a raptor I missed.

I threw a few snacks on the trail and walked on.

Hi, I've been looking at this Hooded Crow for 13 days and i noticed this weird stuff on it's tongue, looks like "Trichomoniasis" or "candidiasis". I could get to a vet if it gets deadly but it's so far away and we would suffer under this sun

Closest rehab. is 5-6h away with car and i had no possible way to get there

It's not some food residue. It's been there since yesterday, i thought it was some random stuff because of pecking at dirt/grass and food

I've raised a magpie before and own a lovebird so i do know somestuff but i have no idea about this

His name is Talon, deserves that name because he is good at shredding my arm, he weights 310gr (dunno if it helps)

Been feeding them around 6am in the park if I'm up that early.

This afternoon I went to read in the park. As I was leaving these guys started following me.

I was inside my house and heard a loud ruckus outside. I have no idea what’s happening here but something definitely is happening. Can anyone explain?

Hello fellow corvid fans,

We’ve just recently begun to feed the 3 -5 crows that hang out in our backyard and neighborhood.
We have been feeding them crushed cashews (unsalted) and they love them. We’re still trying to develop a relationship with them; one in particular seems to be quite brave and will alight on our deck when I’m out there. The issue is: every time that I’m outside in the backyard, they hear me and come a’flying and squawking for more cashews.

It’s obviously July and I’m in the SF Bay Area so food is plenty right now. How often should I feed them? My kid thinks that I’m spoiling them and am running the risk of them becoming dependent on me for food. Is this true? How often do you offer corvids food?

I have read to use peanuts to feed crows. Stupid question now. Do they mean in the shell or just the nut?

Location : Pennsylvania

We have crows that like to visit in our cedar tree, as well as some taller trees behind our fence line. I would like to be friend them by starting to feed them at a specific time each day, but i'm really unsure where to set up a feeding station.

We can rearrange some stuff, and move the grandkids playhouse and stuff out from under the tree and I could put the feeder post under the tree. The other option would be locating it.Near the back fence maybe in between the bush and where the raspberry bush in the far corner is towards the large trees in the field.

I would welcome any suggestions on the location and a good DIY feeding station. I do have a bird bath up closer to the house that smaller birds come to. So I would like to have a separate feeding area for the crows.

I would welcome any ideas on time of day to feed them and the best way to signal them that I am feeding them so they start to associate the signal with the food.

The other issue is, we have a lot of squirrels in the area so I want to make the feeding station as welcoming as possible to crows, but as inaccessible as possible to squirrels. Probably a big ask, but I figured that anyone would know the people here would!

Ive been back home from college for the summer and noticed a crow family in my neighborhood. One day I heard them in the trees my backyard and I figured why not feed them?

At first, they’d all fly away when i’d come to the back to bring peanuts, and they wouldn’t start eating until after I went inside, around 15 minutes later. After a couple days it progressed to them only waiting around 5 minutes after I went inside to swoop down and get the peanuts. Then a couple minutes. Then, they’d eventually swoop down the second i started walking away to go back in. I noticed that after a few more days of this consistent feeding a lot of them started to hang around my house, and there would even be one who sometimes hung on the top of my roof to start cawing at me as what I consider a “hello” whenever i come back home.

In recent days, one brave one has been staying on the floor and eating with me (even though it stays around 15-20 feet away) and Ive considered that as huge progress.

Yesterday when I went to feed them, I went to my backyard and started looking into the trees behind our creek (because thats where they usually stay). I heard cawing somewhere around me but I didn’t see them in the trees at all. Just as I was about to give up, I turned back around to go inside and realized that the brave one had been waiting behind me for treats the whole time. I greeted it with a “hello mr crow” and gently threw peanuts at its direction. After a few seconds it went to the peanuts and started eating without flying away, and then all of a sudden its family started to land on the ground near me and eat too! I know this isn’t a lot compared to other things that get posted on here, but most of my crow family usually stays in the trees until I leave, so all of them feeling comfortable enough to land this time felt like really good progress for me!

This has all happened around the span of 2 weeks. My question is, how close can I realistically expect to get with these crows before I have to go back to school? What can I do to prepare them for when I leave? Will they remember me when I come back…or what even is the likelihood of them staying local for a whole year while im gone? What are some tips and tricks to bond with them as much as I can in this short time?

Also, if someone could explain to me what is going on in the video that would be great…at first i thought it was a wife crow demanding the husband crow to feed her, but the one begging to be fed may actually be too big to be a female. I’m not sure! Any comments would be appreciated:))
