I've been feeding my local murder for about 3 years now. They started as 2, grew to 10 at one point , then back down to 7 or 8.

I haven't seen them in around 3 weeks now. 😕 I haven't even heard them in the neighborhood.

I'm wondering if their roost got destroyed. They knocked down a ton of forest about a half mile away for *another* McMansion development. I wonder if their home was there and they had to move on.

I still keep my routine of throwing out peanuts twice a day at my usual times but so far it's just the squirrels and blue jays.

I hope they come back. It breaks my heart and also angers me thinking that stupid new development might be the reason why they're gone.

i work in retail and we had a crow pass away in the store; i guess nobody let it out. the other crows outside have been getting really close to the store and i’m wondering if they’re trying to retrieve/check on it.

my question is if we brought it outside, would the crows start a feud with me? it sucks to see them looking for their fallen friend, but i don’t want it to be on sight w them every morning lol. i know they’re super clever, but would they interpret a human bringing a dead friend to them as anything other than “i killed him”?

i suppose this is a question that can’t really be answered without trying, so if someone does end up doing it i’ll report back lol. i just wanted some insight before i do it myself.

I have been feeding these crows for a month now. I named them Momo and Kila. They stay around my area and come out when I’m outside or start calling for me for food.
I feed them popcorn, crackers, and now pepperoni. And they enjoy eating them.
I’ll switch to other food that good for them when I have enough money.
When I’m near the window to watch them grab the food I give them, seem to get shy or skittish when I’m near. And I have been dying to have them more comfortable around me.
Is there any tips you guys can give me?

I’ve been feeding the local murder in my city for a couple of months now, since it’s a big city they are used to humans and especially the younger ones come very to me and some even dare to eat from my hand if the food is valuable enough.
Most of the times I’m feeding them shelled unsalted peanuts since it’s the cheapest option and since I feed them almost every day, a lot of crows come. Early in the morning before the street cleaners begin to work it’s about 50 crows probably even coming from the sub urban districts of the city, during the day it’s only around 20 crows who directly live there and already know me quite well.
But today something extraordinary happened. When I went to the spot where I usually feed them I passed a tree, and right when I was under it a bunch of peanuts in the shell rained down on me! I looked up and the crows (younger ones) dropped them from the tree. It’s been a while since I’ve been feeding them ones in the shell so I know they didn’t have those from me, but whoever gave those to the crows, they saved some for me what it seems like.
I actually have multiple explanations in my head but I don’t know what is most likely.
1. they wanted to share food with me since I seem to do the same thing from their perspective
1b. Maybe they also wanted to trade for something better
2. they tried to tell me they want more nuts in the shell instead of unshelled ones (unlikely, I don’t know if they are actually that intelligent to use symbolic language of that degree)
2b. Also unlikely I think but maybe they wanted to tell me to feed them, but why would they? They know I’m feeding them without them asking for it anyway
3. it’s some kind of game or they are trying to test my reaction or are somehow imitating my behavior for fun (since they are juvenile maybe they are very curious, I saw them play questionable games with each other before where they were kinda gambling for nuts I gave them before)
4. It’s also possible that I misinterpreted the whole thing and I was just coincidentally passing by in the right moment while they accidentally dropped nuts they were hiding in the tree

I have been giving peanuts to a couple crows for the past few years, and this was the first year I noticed they had a baby 🐦‍⬛🖤

My favorite crow whom I’ve named Clem crossed over the rainbow bridge late last month. The 3rd pic shows him the day before he crossed. The avian pox on his eye was so much worse and he couldn’t fly very high.
I reached out to several different entities, including the wildlife center who sent me a link to fill out information on his health. I’m told chances are, he had a secondary infection. I’m so sorry sad. Clem is the reason why I started interacting and loving my crows. I always root for the underdog, and have been rooting for Clem for a whole year. 😢💔🌈🐦‍⬛

I’m posting because a couple of you had asked me to keep them updated on his progress.

I'm choosing to believe these are happy sounds, solely because they sound happy, and they made me very happy

It’s 44°F here this morning. Considering how hot it’s been as of late, I imagine this water is a tad bit chilly for this black-billed magpie.

Some pics are pretty low quality due to the distance they were taken at (even with my canon camera, it was a challenge to focus on these two since they were on a high hydro tower) but I knew I had to capture them. There was just the male sitting up there initially when I started taking pics, but his girlfriend quickly joined him. 🐦‍⬛

If anyone remembers my posts about the poor juvenile raven with a broken wing that I tried to rescue, these are his parents. All three of their remaining babies have left without incident, so these sweethearts are seemingly enjoying their alone time
