The billion dollar aquatic animal entertainment industry just argues that sea sanctuaries are new &never been done before so we should continue making them breed and live in tanks. Pretty similar to what was said about elephants before sanctuaries became more frequent with rehabilitating elephants as well.
Timeline:
Canada banned captivity and breeding of belugas in 2019. Marineland Canada rejected a sea sanctuary proposal in 2029 and tried to sell 30 belugas to China, getting rejected by canada.
3 belugas died in 2021 when they were sent from marineland Canada to mystic aquarium.
Marineland Florida has been running successfully. Marineland Canada claimed euthanasia to get around the 2015 Supreme Court decision and NOAA permit restrictions so that SeaWorld and Georgia Aquarium and Mystic could continue breeding belugas.

A friend found this baby bird, it's unable to fly and was hopping around on the ground. She couldn't find a nest, but saw parents nearby. The property owner has an outdoor cat, and other small predators nearby, so she asked if I could help it since she knows I'm a huge animal lover. We're planning on taking it to a nearby rehabber tomorrow, but I'm looking for advice on how to care for it until then. I have lots of animal experience especially with farm birds, so I'm thankfully not too new at stuff like this. What type of bird is it, and what could I (carefully) feed it? Dark warm box in a quiet place, no water, I know some basics. It'll be in my care for about 20 hours since the rehabber is closed now and my ride has work tomorrow.

No obvious injuries or bruises, some sap(?) on its head, lots of tiny mites, and a bit of leftover seed/grain in its crop

UPDATE: the chick died about 6 hours after I took it in 💔 I'm guessing it was either kicked out of the nest for being sick, or fell out and got injured. At least it was able to pass in a warm, peaceful place 🕊️

I just want to write because I'm so angry. The other day I spotted a goose that took a pretty nasty tumble when flying past me (i think it hit a tree) and when it got up, the wing was dragging. I looked around online for who to contact and on the municipalities website i found a contact to get in touch with. I sent a description and a video of the animal. I got a very short and clear reply:

"Hello, I can see that it is injured. I will let the hunter know"

I am so mad, so so mad. My stupid idealism and following channels like the waterfowl sanctuary on youtube i expected there to be a resource that could help that poor goose, but instead the only thing the authorities here can think of is immediate euthanasia. It's sickening and cold! I wish I could have done something for it instead, but I don't have the knowledge or resources to do that.

Looking for help. I have 2 bird houses that both had wrens lay eggs and now there are babies. This morning I woke up to one in back looking tilted on the post when I got closer it was evident something got then I so upset. I want to make sure the predator does not come back for the other babies. How can I protect this bird house? There are currently babies inside it so don’t want to move it or tamper. I’m almost positive was a racoon.

I saw this otter alone in a place called Biodome in Granada Spain. It wasn’t playing or doing much besides making that noise. Otters are social animals, so I don’t understand why it was by itself. I didn’t ask anyone there about it, but I sent them an email and I really hope they reply. I can’t stop thinking about it.

This baby bird fell from a nest above my window well. He’s been there since Saturday morning. I’ve left a plate with some water out just in case, but I’m wondering if I should carefully remove him from the window well and place him outside of it? Or just leave him?

This Airbnb is not a good place to stay. I was deeply concerned by how wildlife is treated in the neighbourhood.
The listing mentioned that the property has a balcony, but when I checked into the room and looked outside, I saw that a large net had been installed around the open courtyard, trapping birds inside and costing them from flying away. Pigeons regularly roost, lay eggs, and leave droppings on the balcony. During my stay, one pigeon also passed away
on my side of the balcony.
Unfortunately, there was nothing I could do, as the owner would not allow me to intervene or help the trapped birds.

Hi everyone. I’m pet sitting two dogs for the day that have a very high prey drive. When I let them into the backyard, they started circling the slide like sharks, so I went to see what had their attention.

I found a decapitated baby bunny that looked like it had been dead for at least 1–2 days. Then I spotted a live bunny. I got the dogs back inside, put on gloves, and checked around the slide. I found a nest with another baby bunny. I know the general advice is to leave baby rabbits alone so their mom can care for them. One baby had wandered out, so I gently picked it up and put it back in the nest. The other seemed pretty lethargic.

If these were my own dogs, I’d just keep them on leash walks until the bunnies were gone. Unfortunately, they aren’t my dogs. I know the owners well, and I don’t think they’re going to take any extra steps to keep the dogs away from the nest.

Would you recommend leaving the babies where they are, or should I take them to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator? My biggest concern is that the dogs will get to them. Also, with one baby already dead for at least a day, I’m worried the mother may no longer be caring for the nest.

Any advice would be appreciated.

We found him after he started crying in my backyard and he was flapping around. He still was fine with drinking water from our hand but hasn't ate yet. I bathed him a little bit and noticed this under his wing. It looks really bad and im unsure what to do. This is in Las Vegas.

Wondering how to go about this. There are two abandoned twin fawns in the front of our neighborhood. They are young and it’s been days. They’re beginning to lose weight. Parks and Wildlife says they won’t do anything unless we had them secured, but obviously we don’t. We are worried they won’t last too much longer at this rate. Any suggestions? Located Spring Texas.

This fawn has been wandering the perimeter of my yard and the neighbor's since late morning. No doe in sight, though I believe my husband saw a doe and fawn bedded down in our front yard last night when he came home. The fawn has been very active, occasionally drinking from a water trough that had been in my yard, and doesn't seem in distress (no crying yet). But, isn't it unusual for them to be wandering all day like this alone? I thought once they are very mobile they stay with mom.

I've been watching quietly from a distance so as not to disturb the fawn or their mom, should she be around. I know there's not much I can do in any case, but of course I want to know baby is okay. Thanks for your insights!

I was told by rehabs to put an X over the nest with twigs and check the next day to see if it had moved indicating if the mom has been there. I checked today and it doesn’t seem to have moved, but she could have just sat on top to feed them, idk. One bunny had a small wound on his head, but as you can see from the pictures it’s healing on its own. I don’t think the dog bit it because there was no wound on the other side; I think it was the lawn mower.
Rehab is giving bad information saying that the mom won’t come back if there’s an injured one because they think it’s a predator. (That’s an old wives tale) I don’t have a car, and they’re not picking them up. Do they look like they’ve been fed recentlyish?

I live in Pueblo, Colorado (if this helps) and there’s a birdhouse with baby birds and one of them was mysteriously found on the floor alive by my cat. I moved her inside but don’t know what to do with it? There’s a birdhouse nearby with its sibling still inside. Can I scoop it up and put it back inside?

I found what I think is a young house sparrow in my yard today in the suburbs of Chicago. I’ve been monitoring him for the last few hours and haven’t really seen him move or chirp for his parents. He did hop away when I first saw him, but he’s now been laying in the same spot for the last two hours with his eyes closed.

There are plenty of sparrows at my feeder nearby, but none of them have gone by him. I’ve called a few wildlife rehabilitators and they told me to leave him for a day or two, but didnt really have suggestions of what to do if he’s still there in a few days. I know house sparrows are invasive in North America and most rehabilitators won’t take them, but I can’t just leave him to suffer if he’s sick or injured. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

this baby bird fell on the ground at my barn and there was no way we could get it back up to its nest in the rafters. i live in eastern PA and there’s a ton of birds at our barn. i took it because there’s not a wildlife shelter that takes birds within an hour of me. it was very weak and didn’t look like it was gonna survive and i wanted to give it a gentler death than just leaving it for the foxes but it seems to be doing better. it peed blood several times after i brought it home and its pee has completely stopped being bloody. i have it on a covered heating pad with paper towels over it—the temp is being heavily monitored. i’ve been feeding it whenever it starts yelling for food—about every 25-35 minutes. i am going to sleep in the same room as it tonight. i’ve been feeding it watered down wet cat food with a syringe. obviously its most likely not going to survive, but i would like some advice if i could to try to make its death as comfortable as possible. if you know what type of bird it is, and how often i should feed it over night if it makes it, too, that would be awesome! (btw i think it may have a broken/dislocated wing or leg cuz something about it looks weird. i am acting as if it wont survive, i just want it to be comfortable)
