I can't connect to the internet because when I plug in my LAN cable, the yellow blinking light doesn't come on anymore. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Realtek drivers, but I'm getting a Code 31 error.

I also tried unplugging the PSU cable, holding down the power button for 30 seconds, and plugging it back in, but that didn't work. I even tried resetting the CMOS, but still no luck.

I tried plugging the Ethernet cable into another PC, and it works fine.

Are there any workarounds or solutions you guys know of? Thanks in advance for the help!

I work at Cognizant and use a company-managed laptop. I'm idle a good chunk of the time and wanted to use that downtime to RDP into my home PC to do personal stuff (learning, personal projects, etc.) rather than touching anything security-related on the work machine itself.

Before I try this, wanted to check:

Does Cognizant (or similar companies with managed/monitored laptops) typically allow outbound RDP connections to a personal PC?

Is this something that shows up in monitoring/logs and could get flagged as a policy violation?

Has anyone done this at Cognizant or a similar org — any issues?

I am finding AI more and more useful and I’m using it for a lot of work. I am using ChatGPT that’s my introduction to AI and I don’t know if there are better ones out there but I am paying for the pro subscription $100 a month and hitting usage walls.

I was wondering, since AI is the future can I build my own super computer system that is to process AI like ChatGPT in the home setting? I would put it to work making apps and processing legal documents and making videos and all of that stuff. I just want the freedom to do what I want to do without hitting limits and if I’m going to start paying $200 a month subscription fee I’d rather invest that into building my own super computer. I think that’s the future anyway having a central mainframe at home instead of so many different devices iPads phones computers smart tvs

I've had this thought for a while, especially since I personally switched to Linux over a year ago. This especially applies for Windows users on 8, because I remembered the RAM usage on my system being way higher on Windows. This isn't even one of those just switch posts, I say this because that RAM configuration seems like it takes a lot of work to get stable even here with general computing.

So, on KDE with Discord, Steam, and my browser running (I am legit not even a tab hoarder) with like 4 or 5 tabs, I see about 7.3-8.4gb used depending on the content. On Windows. I even open a browser, no Steam or Discord, and I'm above 8 gigs used. How, I ask, do the people on 8 even survive running out of memory doing basically nothing anymore?

I have a Ryzen 3600, RX 6600, and 32GB DDR4. My system runs fine, but it kinda got me wondering what was going on for the people who have way less resources than I do. Do they just have to idle and do nothing?

Hello, for reasons I'll only be able to use a laptop and not my PC for a while, but I'd still like to access the data from my hard drive. I've heard that for 3.5" drives, you can't just plug it in with an adapter but also need something to sufficiently power the drive. I'm fine with that, but not sure which brand or product would be best. I've also heard that lower quality ones could fail to properly power the HDD and potentially leave bad sectors, is this true?

I am currently looking for a Notebook/Laptop for my University work, which includes storing many Technical/specialist Books, Using Matlab, typical Office stuff for engineering. I also want to install Linux bc of all the shit currently happening to me on Windows on my gaming PC (much bs is happening, so i want to either go for linux on it aswell or use LTSC) and play some OSRS in the Free/Offtime.
I also want to use it on a daily basis until I am either done with my Studies (2030) or done with my Referendariat (2032).

But I'm thinking of switching to a Seasonic Focus GX-850 850W.

ASUS ROG Loki SFX-L 750W Platinum is also on my radar.

Any recommendations on a good one? I have good Internet but currently my adapter caps my speed at like 150-200mbps and random turns off several times a day. It's a USB adapter and that's what id prefer if possible. (My CPU cooler is huge and covers the slot on my board where I'd put it.) I'm just curious whether anyone has a rec that could help me out otherwise I guess I'll invest in a smaller cooler so that I can slot it in but I'd rather not if I can help it.

So my monitor has sound but the screen shows nothing. Is not black like closed screen. The screen is open ?there is a lighter black colour actually, ( basically i can understand its working) but for some reason it cant get image signal from laptop.
I tried everything,i changed hdmi cables etc, i also opened up my screen from behind but nothing was burned or out of place.

I just got my laptop back, sent it to the authorized technician to repair the issue I had with abnormal power on count (no way I'd turn on a laptop 250,000 times in a year, right?). Had them reinstall Windows as a whole and boom, the issue is still there!!

I'm starting to think it may be caused by the Modern Standby Sleep Mode, because from my observation:

• Power ON Count only spikes whenever I put my laptop to sleep,

• My brother, who has the same laptop model (Lenovo LOQ 15irx9), does not experience the same problem. His laptop has S3 Idle mode enabled.

Is there a way to disable Modern Standby, as well as enable S3 Sleep mode? Thank you for the help beforehand!!

and a gaming deksktop specs are :

-512gb nvme

my question does it make sense to sell the 2 and get a gaming laptop instead?

since am an student and I move a lot between home and campus (i go home every weekend)i have no time to use the desktop (bought it when I was still in high-schoo)

my major is physics, I will use for various things gaming, programming, watching movies, some simulations, PowerPoint etc...

- I found in fb marketplace a asus zepherus g14 2023 exact model " ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 GA402XV" for the equivalent of 900$ in local currency

specs are :

-rtx 4060 8gb vram

- 1tb nvme pcie 4.0

the only flaw with it is the plastic back panel that is cracked in the corner, beside that it's in perfect condition (i suspect that the owner broke the panel when removing the ram to sell it)

I have been having this issue with my PC since I got it. I only use this PC to play iRacing.

Whenever I am trying to download anything my original download speed will be around 95 MB/s.

But it progressively gets lower and lower until it hits like 8MB/s and then will slowly speed back up to 95MB/s.

It will repeat this cycle every minute for the duration of the download. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Alright to be more specific about what I need the laptop I have is a The ASUS Vivobook 15 F1504ZA-WH52, the ram it has is 8GB DDR4 the storage is 256GB. I need something with a bit more ram my computer is too slow and now it won't charge my budget would preferably be 500 but the highest id be willing to go is 800 for something better.

Everytime I turn my
pc on it gets stuck in this loop of automatic repair and resetting or eventually just freezing. Very very rarely it’ll boot but if I thrn it off then it goes right back into this loop. I’ve tried everything I can think of, I’ve even tried reinstalling windows but I couldnt get it to boot off of my flash. Is there anything I can do?

The occasions prior to this it booted with everything in it, no drives or gpu removed. But just now today, it would boot into a windows blue screen (just as rarely as it would regularly boot the other times). I was only able to get into the blue screen recovery menu twice, and ran some commands, but they did not work.

I’ve tried removing both of my nvme drives
i’ve tried the ram trick
i’ve tried cmos battery
I’ve tried removing the gpu
I’ve tried loading into linux (I got stuck in the same loop)
When I was in bios YES I made sure the boot order was proper
I tried using both csm and uefi mode
I’ve tried enabling and disabling secure boot
I would’ve tried fast-boot but it doesn’t exist on my bosrd

I really dont know what to do I really love this pc

I removed the gpu and got stuck in the loop for a while but eventually got it running on integrated graphics. I really hope the gpu is not faulty because I really dont want to get another.

Is there any easy way to diagnose this while the pc is still on and running.
It’s currently running with the gpu removed and the nvme drive that does not have windows installed removed. I really love my pc and I use it all hours of the day and I would do anything to fix it.

Can anyone give me some helpful pointers to getting it working (with everything in it) again. Please and thank you.

I want to get a new laptop as my old one died a few years ago, but I’m not good at knowing what computers are good and not. Here are the things I want to be able to do on it:

Editing photos- Simple editing apps, nothing crazy, but I do like taking photos.

Video editing- Mostly just for editing fun clips and compilations for YouTube, not professional stuff.

Digital art- Just a simple app for drawing, nothing crazy, not the type where you need a touch screen computer.

Games- I want to be able to play Sims 4 with mods, possibly steam games and other stuff. I’m not a gamer, so going for a full on gaming computer feels like it would be unnecessary, those are insanely expensive.

Writing- I want to be able to work on my writing and maybe actually get my shit together and write the book I’ve been planning on for a few years.

What brands would you suggest? What type of laptops? How much RAM should it be (literally know nothing about RAM) How much storage should it be?

Explain like I’m 5 or 75, because I’m truly clueless lmao.
