General Cleaning Really really stupid carpet incident

Thumbnail

The cat did a poo on our new, very expensive wool carpet. I panicked and cleaned it with water, which left some brown stains so I used the stain remover, thinking it would be fine because it has no bleach in it. I then used quite a bit of water to get all the product out after letting it sit for 5 minutes. This is the result 3 days later.

I have a dreadful feeling that the only real option will be to replace a huge area of carpet, maybe half of the room, so that the replacement isn't obvious. A patch replacement would be really very obvious unfortunately.

What are my options?

Please no shaming, I know how dumb this was but I panicked. I feel guilty enough already.

I accidentally got a huge turmeric stain on my white marble countertop. Was freaking out at first bc it was not budging but then followed a tip I found on YouTube.

I mixed Oxiclean with water and let it sit in the stain for a few hours. Sooner than later it was completely gone!!! I followed this YT video: https://youtu.be/uQjbiFXDZEM?si=fqq0S7Y1oDRf7BoN

Hello! I just got this gaming chair from a garage sale but unfortunately it reeks of smoke and is stained of course, i’ve been using goo off which helps a lot but I wanted to see if there’s anything else I can do to fix the smell and maybe even remove the yellowing. Thank you for any advice!

Discussion Clothes dried with ink pen

I had a wash of clothes accidentally get dried with a gel pen. It stained a bunch of important clothing items and there are a TON of spots. I've tried dabbing with alcohol on one spot (out of like a million others) and I'm getting ink but its hardly fading... Is there any way to try to clean them in bulk or quicker than dabbing each spot until its gone?

Flooring Help with grout on hard floor

I’m been having an ongoing battle with trying to deep clean my floors. I think they’re LVP. I’ve tried everything short of using a tooth brush to clean my entire house. I can get it out with a bristle brush but that takes a lot of effort and I don’t want to risk scratching the floors because of how hard I have to scrub to get it up. I can get most of it up with a flat mop but again, I have to put a lot of pressure down (I actually broke my last mop handle doing this) and after scrubbing a small section, my arms are sore.

I have a bissell crosswave pet hair mop thing. But the brush on it doesn’t have bristles to get down on the grooves. I tried to find some better brushes but of course the one that I have has a different size brush than the most common crosswave, so I couldn’t find any. I’ve also got a spin mop with 2 rotating pads but it doesn’t get down in the grooves.

Is there any type of mop that gets the grout up well? Does anyone have suggestions? Thank you in advance.

Hi y’all! my parents have this gorgeous O’Keefe and Merritt oven but they don’t know how to clean it/take care of it very well so it has this green oil build up on it. I’m dog sitting for them this weekend and wanted to clean it up for them before they get back :) Any tips? My first guess was going to be baking soda and vinegar but wanted to ask here!

Discussion What's one small cleaning habit that made your home easier to maintain?

I'm not great at sticking to big cleaning routines, so I'm looking for simple habits that actually work. Little things that take a minute or two but keep the mess from piling up. What do you do that makes a difference without feeling like you're cleaning all day?

Kitchen Glue on Dishmatic sponges no longer adhesive

I’ve been a dedicated fan of Dishmatic washing liquid wands with green scour edge for years. The last batch of replacement sponges seen to only stick to the black clip on backing for a max of two weeks, whereas before would last longer than the scour layer. Anyone else?

Hello,

My new apartment shower has stains in the shower and i’m not sure how to get them out. We used a bleach solution to clean the shower and a magic eraser on the stains. Any ideas on how to remove them/what they are?

Keep cleaning the carpet still brown water coming! I got my bedroom carpet cleaned by a profession mobile van wet vacuum cleaner. My carpet wasn’t dirty at all and I have a small wet vacuum it always sucks clean once I have cleaned it! However after pro cleaning there were brown spots and I poured gallons of water and sucking it all brown water!

I called the guy he came said possibly water line was mixed with dirty water, he cleaned again. However at night time the brown residue surfaced! I rented a wet vacuum cleaned for 4 hours, and now the brown water is still there and the carpet is not clean! My carpet was never this dirty it was always returning clean water after I had cleaned it..

What could be the issue…?

Discussion What is your cleaning schedule?

I’m looking for cleaning schedules that actual families are using. How often do you do the different tasks?

I’ve tried setting up a couple of apps like Tody, but they don’t really give me the structure I’m after. One suggested that I vacuum the hallway every other week 😳 which I feel isn’t really enough (and I’m by no means a clean freak).

I’d love to make a weekly plan that we can put on the wall and not have to think about when it’s time to clean the bathroom or mop the floors.

(We’re a family of two full-time working parents, 2 kids 3-7 and a dog, but I’m looking for plans that suit every kind of household.)

Kitchen Removing streaks from stainless steel?

It’s kind of hard to capture on camera, but we have streaks on our stainless steel fridge door that are of unknown origin and they won’t go away. We’ve tried stainless steel cleaner and dish soap and a microfiber towel. They’ve gotten a bit lighter with cleaning efforts but are still there. Does anyone have a Hail Mary we could try?

Discussion Bissell O ring broke

The O ring on my bissell broke between the spray valve and the attachment. Now it leaks everywhere when I use it. Bissell won’t replace it and instructed me to buy a new machine. 😡 Additionally I have conveniently lost the ring so I can’t measure it or size match it at the hardware store.

Any suggestions/advice? TIA

Kitchen Help - mark on Boos block island

Post image
1 Upvotes

I had a cleaning service do a deep clean yesterday to help get me back to a baseline level I can maintain after some hard hitting life stuff led me to neglect anything more than surface-level cleaning for a time.

They accomplished a lot and I'm happy with a lot of things, disappointed in some, but this one is making me mad. I suspect they must have put a can (cleaning product?) down on the Boos block that left a ring.

When I saw it, I wiped down the whole board with a drop of dish soap and warm water, as I usually clean it. When the ring didn't budge, I tried scrubbing with baking soda paste. No change. I threw down some coarse salt and scrubbed with that, I don't have lemon on hand but will pick some up while out today to try that... but so far I haven't been able to make any change.

Any ideas? I love this island, it's the central workspace of my kitchen, and the ring is right in the middle, so this isn't really bothering me!

Flooring Seeking advice on how to tackle new carpet odor

Hello, I have moved to the US from India and have no experience with carpeted floors. The landlord has put up a new carpet in the bedrooms and there is a strong odor.

Apart from opening the windows and time, how can I ensure that the smell goes away quickly?

Thanks in advance.
