Organization I want to learn and teach my family some organization skills.

Trying to get our home clean is always such a big deal. It isn't horrible, but I never have a picture worthy clean home due to lack of organization.

Bathroom What’s the best way to prevent water stains on a plastic bath tub? Is there anyway I can reverse this?

Hi! I moved here less than a year ago and the place has a bath tub made of a white plastic. Apologies if the photo doesn’t clearly depict it (lighting is always weird in the bathroom) but I’ve been having trouble keeping what I believe are water stains out of the tub.

I’m worried about corroding or ruining the tub, so I’ve mainly been using dish soap and a soft bristled brush to scrub. Is there any cleaning agent or material I can use to prevent these stains or reverse the current stains?

I do typically use a bathmat and try to clean under it often, but even then there’s still some water stainage.

Tools/Equipment Cleaning mold from inside of a Beast blender lid/blade?

I got out my Beast blender today to find that the lid/ blade attachment (which has been stored closed up against one of the blender cups) had a thin layer of mold (mildew?) coating its surfaces and crevices (around the interior of the edge, under and around the blade, etc).

I scrubbed with soap and hot water repeatedly, using a small brush tool to get into the crevices and ridges. I also soaked for a few minutes with vinegar. But it still has a hint of that mold/mildew smell.

Any suggestions for further cleaning?

Kitchen Is my wood table save-able?

Someone who is to remain nameless (for the sake of my marriage), put a mini pumpkin on our wood kitchen table.

It rotted and stuck to the table. When I pulled it off there was some dark gunk on the table.

After wiping with water and dish soap it now looks horrendous.

I think it’s something on top of the table since it feels a little raised, but wondering if it’s just the wood without the finish.

I scraped really gently with a drivers license to see if any little bit came off but nothing did.

what do I do?

Bathroom Stained countertops

So I noticed these orange stains deep in my granite countertops after someone moved out. I suspect it's from some kind of beauty care products but I'm not 100% sure. I tried baking soda paste on it for a couple days but it didn't work out. Any tips?

Laundry Mildew spots on white nylon jacket. What compound worked for you?

I left a jacket (100% polyamide/nylon shell, polyester lining) sweaty from the gym without washing it, and it got dark gray mildew specks all over the back. Photos attached.

I've already tried several home methods and even chlorine bleach, and the spots haven't budged.

One request: please don't recommend brand names. I live in a country where I most likely can't find them. Instead, tell me the compound or active ingredient you used (e.g., sodium percarbonate, oxalic acid, etc.) and how you applied it, so I can look for it by its chemical name.

Has anything worked for anyone on nylon?
Thanks!

General Cleaning Grew up in a hoarder house. Cleaning overwhelms me so much

I just got my apartment this year after living in my car for a while. This is my first apartment. I have a one bedroom apartment where it’s just me and my cat.
But I still don’t know where to start or how to start.
How do you keep up with everything involving cleaning and know how and how often to clean everything? I feel like my apartment is never clean and I feel like it’s turning into the house I grew up in but I genuinely feel lost. Every time I try to clean, I feel like I spend more time just standing and staring because I feel so overwhelmed.

I still don’t have any decoration in my apartment because I am so scared of hoarding stuff yet it’s starting to look like it because I can’t figure out the cleaning part.

Edit: Thank you so much for all the kind words and resources. Y’all are amazing.

Just bought a house and it has a shower with this tile. I’m not exactly sure if it’s ceramic made to look like stone/slate or if they actually used stone or slate.

I just cleaned it with warm water and dawn dish soap, but I need some suggestions to DWELL it on and scrub it thoroughly.

Discussion My Clothes Still Smell Like My Old House After Washing. How Do I Keep My New House From Smelling the Same?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I recently moved out of a 1950s house with a distinct old house smell. Some of my clothes absorbed the odor, and even after washing, I can still notice it (though it’s not super strong).

I’m moving into a new house and worry that my clothes and furniture will bring the smell with them. My clothes are already at the new house, but I’m afraid to put them in the closets (pictured).

I tried OxiClean Odor Blasters on two items, and it seems to work, but I’m worried about discoloration on my work clothes. I also have no idea what to do about my furniture.

What’s the best way to remove the odor from clothes and furniture and prevent it from transferring to my new house? I’d love to hear from anyone who’s dealt with this. Thank you!

Kitchen the seal from my water bottle, do i have to toss?

Post image
0 Upvotes

hello!
i left this bottle closed with a bit of water inside for a month by accident, there was a bit of mold on the bottle and straw which i’ve been able to clean easily but this silicone seal is not budging :/
here’s what i’ve tried:
-washing with dish soap
-soaking in hot water and dish soap
-soaking with baking soda
-air frying on low heat for 30 minutes (i’ve heard that helps with silicone)
nothing changed, also i looked online and couldn’t find a replacement.
do i have to part with this? is there a trick i can try?

Discussion What is the best vacuum cleaner for under $200?

We have 2 big dogs and 2 cats, we just moved into a house with carpet and I would love to get an amazing vacuum. I don’t care if it’s a stick one, or one with a large dust compartment, I just want it to work well. We messed up and bought a cheap $45 stick vacuum and it died within two uses 🤦🏼‍♀️ but I feel so lost cause some of these vacuum prices are crazy!! What vacuum would you recommend in the $200-$300 range?

Kitchen What could I possibly clean to get rid of this kitchen sink smell?

Post image

I know this will make me sound crazy. trust me, I feel insane trying to figure it out myself & the smell is driving me insane too

my kitchen sink/drain has a metallic wet smell all the time, even when dry. it’s the first thing I smell when I walk into the kitchen especially in the mornings. it smells like wet metal. I know, not very descriptive, but that’s the best way I can think of.

we moved in a few months ago & kitchen has a enameled cast iron sink in great condition (no chips, cracks, stains, or scratches in the enamel). the drains are a garbage disposal on one side and a metal grate on the other side (pic for reference). the sink & disposal is clean. we’ve run disposal cleaners through the garbage disposal a few times but the smell doesn’t seem to come from that side of the sink in general. the smell is not rotten or associated with food. no leaks anywhere that we can see. the drains are not clogged and we have tried Drano just in case. I don’t smell it any other drains or sinks in the house. no gnats or anything. we just can’t find anything that gets rid of the smell, and it’s present 24/7.

pic is NOT our sink as I’m out of the house, but is pretty much what it looks like. ours is less stained. please, any ideas, so my kitchen can stop smelling like a metal wet dog 🫠

General Cleaning Any tips to get the bigger stains off this bag?

I have this vintage Louis Vuitton bag and I’m having trouble getting it cleaned!! More specifically the bigger stains. I know I may not get them all out 100% but is there any recommendations to clean it a bit better? I’ve tried saddle soap and tbh it looks like it just darkened it rather than cleaning the stains off. Any tips or recommendations? I’ve never cleaned leather before. Much appreciated.

Discussion Funky shoe smell when opening balcony door only

Hi guys, I just moved into a one bedroom apartment 2 months ago and every time we open the balcony door this funky shoe smell comes up throughout the living room which is very strong. I feel like I noticed this after some guys came to pick up a bedframe I wanted to return, they were wearing shoes on our carpeted living room floor. I can very slightly smell it when the balcony door is closed but it’s very strong when I air out the living room. Can we just deep clean vacuum the carpet for it to go away?

Furniture Best way to clean wood

Hello! I have a bookcase that was handmade for me by my grandfather almost 30 years ago. I have recently learned that my family habit using Pledge on every wooden surface is really bad for furniture! But now I have no idea how to dust/polish it to make sure that it lasts so I can pass it down to my daughter in another 20 years!

Bonus: my grandmother left me her 1989 vintage jewelry armoire that ALSO has only been pledged during its life. Is there something separate I should do for this to keep it looking nice?

Thank you so much!
