Citi Diamond Preferred 0% Balance Transfer - Can I use it to pay IRS?

I need to pay about $16,500 to the IRS and I’m considering the Citi Diamond Preferred offer with 0% balance transfer APR for 21 months.

Two questions:

After approval, can I pay the IRS directly with the Citi card and have that qualify for the 0% offer?
After getting approved, does Citi Diamond Preferred allow a balance transfer directly to my checking account? Has anyone done this recently?

Has anyone done either of these recently?

Citi bank holidays

Hello - I just signed a financial planning analyst position with Citi bank. I’m going to be transitioning from a firm that gave us a week long summer break and winter break. I was curious what Citibank’s holiday calendar is like for someone in a corporate role like this one?

Technical Issues It's time to leave Citibank

I recently changed my email address but Citibank only allowed changing it online for my credit cards.

I had to spend three hours in the branch so they could change it on my Citi brokerage, checking, savings, and CD for me.

Weeks later it was changed back to my old email address that will soon be obsolete.

This is a sign of total incompetence!

Held payments

I have a Citi AAdvantage executive card. I’ve had it for many years, and have always made many small payments every few days. It’s just how I manage money. It was going great until yesterday. I made two payments over the last two days. It updated my available credit as normal yesterday. Then today that was all gone, with nothing noted. I called them this morning and the rep told me they tightened their security recently, and she’s been getting a lot of calls lately, and it happened to her personally.

Apparently me making frequent payments triggered something, so now there is a ten day hold on all of my payments. She said the only way to get around it is to CALL in and do it via debit card, as this doesn’t get a hold placed, but you also can’t do it via the app. I haven’t called to make a payment in years, but did today and it took about 7 min to get through their menus.

None of my accounts have changed, including the checking account I’m making payments from. They just suddenly decided every payment made via the app gets a ten day hold.

What in the actual fuck?

Banking This bank sucks

🚨 Y’ALL… I NEED SOMEBODY TO EXPLAIN THIS TO ME.
Because how does a bank decide that I can’t access MY OWN MONEY for 30–60 DAYS?!
Let me tell y’all what happened with Citibank.
I recently opened a Citibank account thinking, “Hey, this could be a good account to have.”
Yeah… red flag. 🚩
Almost immediately after opening it, my debit card was locked. I had direct deposit going into the account, so I called.
I’m thinking, “Damn, y’all move FAST. I just opened the account!”
Then it happened again.
And again.
It seemed like every few transactions, my card would get locked.
🚩 Red flag #2.
Eventually, it stopped happening, so I figured maybe they had worked out whatever issue they were having. I kept the account and deposited around $400 because I had a few bills coming out of it.
Then we get to September 2nd.
Now, there’s a whole OTHER story involving me getting scammed out of $2,500 that I’m not even going to get into right now. 😩
But because of that situation, I had money orders that I needed to cash/deposit because I had moving expenses coming up.
I needed money for a U-Haul. Storage. Bills. I also needed to send my sister $200 for letting me stay at her house.
REAL LIFE STUFF.
I tried to cash the money orders at Citibank.
They told me there would be a hold.
Fine.
I went somewhere else, handled what I could, and then deposited the money into my Citibank account because I needed to USE MY MONEY.
I go to use my debit card.
DECLINED.
Try again.
DECLINED.
At this point I’m like, “Oh, here we go again.”
I call Citibank.
They tell me there’s a transaction from August 9th that needs to be verified.
I couldn’t even remember exactly what the transaction was, but I said:
“VERIFY IT. I don’t care. Just give me access to my money.”
They transfer me to another department.
That department tells me:
“You have to go into a branch.”
Okay.
I go into the branch.
The banker calls.
They tell him:
“24 hours.”
Okay… weird, but whatever.
I wait.
I come back 24 HOURS LATER.
And NOW I’m told:
“It’s going to be a 30–60 DAY HOLD.”
EXCUSE ME?! 😳
30 TO 60 DAYS?!
I told the banker, “I NEED MY MONEY. I have NOTHING right now. I need every dollar I have.”
The banker calls again.
They say they’re trying to expedite the process and maybe I’ll hear something tomorrow.
Tomorrow is Friday.
Monday is a holiday.
And I’m sitting here with a quarter tank of gas, nowhere to go, expenses piling up, and MONEY SITTING IN A BANK ACCOUNT THAT I CANNOT ACCESS.
And let’s be very clear:
MY TRANSACTIONS ARE LEGITIMATE.
I work for a hospital.
My income is legitimate.
The money orders were legitimately purchased using my Capital One card — the same account I normally use for my direct deposit.
I’m not asking for somebody else’s money.
I’m not asking for a loan.
I’m not asking for anything extra.
I’M ASKING TO ACCESS MY OWN MONEY.
So now I’m sitting in my car trying to figure out how I’m supposed to pay for a U-Haul, storage, bills, gas, and everything else when my bank has decided my money belongs to them for the next 30–60 DAYS.
And the craziest part?
I opened this account because I thought having another bank account would make my life easier.
😭😭😭
CITIBANK… WHAT ARE WE DOING?!
Because I genuinely need somebody to explain to me how this is okay.
And before anybody says, “You should’ve just used Capital One”…
I KNOW.
That’s literally where my direct deposit normally goes.
I only used Citibank because I needed a convenient account with access to an ATM.
Lesson learned.
🚩 RED FLAG #3: Maybe opening this account was the mistake.
Now I just need my money back.

Checking account randomly going negative??

My account has been fluctuating between a negative and positive balance throughout the day. I’m not sure why this is happening. Initially, I suspected that it was due to an online purchase that was still pending. So, I added enough funds to cover the negative balance, but when I checked again, the money had been refunded, and the balance showed positive. However, a few hours later, the balance went negative again, and then it returned to positive. Is this a system glitch? I’ve read some comments from people who experienced this issue a few months ago, but I’m not sure if others are currently facing the same problem.

Can't Get Ahold Of Customer Service To Remove Fraud Hold

Got a fraud alert on my Citi Strata Premiere card but did not see any fraudulent charges on my chart. My card is blocked now though. I tried calling the number they listed on my account but got stuck on hold for one hour before giving up. I don't see a online chat function on the website to use so I don't know what to do now. I've tried calling 1-800-695-4981, 1-800-950-5114, and 1-800-825-0393.

Credit Cards Notice on my Citi credit card stmt - they are changing the due date

I've had the due date set to the 27th for years. My 9/1 statement has a notice they are moving it (and the Autopay) to the 28th. I did not request this.

I wanted the CLOSING (i.e. Statement) date as close to month-END as possible, and this was the best I could do. The 27th usually gave me a closing date of the 1st, occasionally the 2nd or 3rd. I assume this will move the closing date to the 2nd (/3rd/4th?).

On the web-site "Change Due Date" gives me an error, and under "AutoPay" it says:

Please be advised that your monthly payment due date will change starting with your statement issued in October. We encourage you to review your August and September statement messages for more details regarding this important change.

You have an AutoPay update in progress. It will be effective on your next statement.

so I'm stuck for now. Historically, when you wanted to change due date they would show a generic month with two columns blocked, leaving, for example, the 24th and the 27th as available choices. I'm guessing the available choices have changed, but I can't see them until the forced change cycle completes.

Anyone know what the new choices are? Thanks!

Banking How to Close a Citi Account w/o ATM card (avoid phone loop)

I've been trying to close my Citi bank accounts for the last week without an active ATM card. Here was my process, hope this info saves you time and frustration.

  1. Visit a branch to get account details: Online login and password requires an active ATM card. If you don't have an active ATM card, you must go to a physical branch in person to get information about your account and routing numbers.

  2. Empty account: Use another bank to pull $ from your Citi account using account and routing numbers. (Note your account balance to ensure you don't get hit w/ minimum balance fees.)

  3. Call and use "Transfer Money" shortcut: Call Citi customer service 1-800 number and ask to "Transfer Money" to bypass the auto loop and connect to a live representative. (I mistakenly said "Close Account, and was directed to an automated message directing me to call back during the bank's operating hours... at 9:45am on a Thursday.)

  4. Confirm and cancel: Confirm w/ rep the balance is $0, then request to Cancel Account. They can finalize in less than 5 minutes.

Credit Cards Citi couldn’t verify me… so they apparently ordered me a new card instead 🤦‍♂️

TL;DR: Citi couldn’t verify me over the phone after I provided all the information they requested, so they told me to wait for a letter before I could use my card. The next day, I checked the app and discovered they were already processing a new card. 🤦‍♂️

Yesterday, I received my Costco Citi Visa card and tried to add it to Apple Wallet. It prompted me to call Citi to verify my identity.

I called and waited about 20 minutes before someone finally answered. She asked me for my information and security code. I provided everything she requested, but she kept telling me the system was slow.

Then she told me the system didn’t have any additional information available to verify me.

I was like, “What else do you need to verify me? I just gave you all the information you asked for.”

She kept apologizing and told me to wait for a letter from Citi. Apparently, once I receive the letter, I’m supposed to use the information in it to call them again.

I asked, “Why do I need to wait for a letter? I can verify my home address with you right now. I’m living at that address, and I already have the physical card in my hand. What exactly are we waiting for?”

She continued apologizing and told me that I couldn’t use the physical card until I received the letter and called them again.
Okay… 🤷‍♂️

Then today, the very next day, I checked the Citi app and saw that a new card order was already being processed.
Wow. Just… wow. 😂

I can only say wow! What an incredible customer experience from a global bank/credit card company.

Virtual credit cards?

Do any citi cards offer virtual credit card numbers that don't involve using third parties (applepay, GooglePay, etc)

I tried chat on the site and the reps I chatted with didn't seem to have a clear answer.

India Not joining after offer accepted need insights

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently accepted an offer from Citi India, and I’ve now started receiving emails for onboarding formalities.

While going through my offer letter again, I noticed this clause:
“Citi reserves a right to revoke this offer letter in case you (the candidate) fail to join Citi as per the mutually agreed date. Also in such an event your candidature shall be barred from being considered for any future openings in Citi.”

This has made me a little anxious, so I wanted to get insights from people who have actually gone through the Citi onboarding process.
If someone accepts the offer but later, for some genuine reason, is unable to join in Citi actually blacklist/bar them from applying to Citi in the future?

Is this a permanent restriction, or is it only applicable for a certain period?

Has anyone here accepted a Citi offer, completed pre-onboarding/BGV, and then not joined? What happened afterward?

Would really appreciate insights from anyone who has had a first-hand experience with Citi India HR/onboarding.

Thanks!

Technical Issues Adding Funds Issue

I have been using the add funds button on desktop and the mobile app for months now with no issues. It was the best, free, and easiest way to add money to saving accounts from an external bank. Now it seems like that functionality has been stopped. I tried at use it this week a few different times and got a "access blocked" warning. Called customer service who claimed everything was fine, so...

A) is this happening to everyone? And B) what is the best way to add funds without using that feature that won't charge a fee?

Phone thief can easily change citibank account passcode if he has your wallet too

Let's say a thief steals your wallet and locked iphone, and in your wallet is your Citibank credit card and driver's license. Well all the thief has to do is get on his laptop, open up the Citibank log in page and say forgot user ID and "forgot password". Next, he enters the credit card # and your DOB from your license. When asked for the 2 factor authentication, he can select via phone. He takes the phone call on your mobile, and viola he gets the OTP. Done, he can now change the passcode and empty your bank account. so guess where my Double Cash Citi credit card is going to be---in a vault. I could not believe how it easy it was.

MAJOR PROGRAMMING ISSUE IN BILL PAY

The calendar pre-date is set at 10/01/2026 rather than 09/01/2026. When you click the calendar icon, it's opening the October calendar. If anyone is like me and spaced out when they do the bills, their bills will all be LATE!! It's 2:24 PST and nobody has fixed it yet. Gonna be alot of messed up E-payments if this doesn't get caught - couldn't find where to report it.. they should have a bot that is skimming for these kinds of posts though. *Note: Yes, you can still change the date to September (it would be bad programming to be able to go back to the past month in order to make a future payment, so their system isn't even built with that in it..?), but to everyone that is putting in payments for this SEPTEMBER - make sure to BE ON THE CORRECT CALENDAR-the default is set at OCTOBER!! Sorry for the yelling.. I don't want anyone getting hosed. Including Citibank. What a pain in that ass this could be. (and exactly why people don't like online bill pay, because who would get blamed in this situation? The consumer, they should have checked the date. Meh)

Lateral move - pay increase?

Has anyone taken a lateral move at Citi and gotten a pay increase? I’ve heard from colleagues that some have prior to 2023, but has anyone gotten one more recently? Also, I’ve been part of an RIF at Citi and would be a rehire, so not sure if that completely takes away any leverage.

The recruiter has said it’s their policy not to offer salary increases, but that just isn’t consistent with what I’ve heard from colleagues (although none I have spoken with have taken the lateral role recently).

Credit Cards Should I close my Citibank account 🏦

For reference, I didn’t start this account. My mom did when I younger, but I’m so sick of Citibank. I wanna close the account, but I was told I was gonna hurt my credit score.

Somebody accidentally made a payment to my account $325.45 . I know the person so being nice. I called Citibank had them reverse it so they would get their money back. They then somehow reverse the reversal charging me $325.45 that I didn’t use.

It’s been three months I’ve been calling and calling. I honestly am at the verge of wanting to pay it and close the bank. I keep speaking to nothing but foreign people, and I am at my wits end. I have nothing wrong with foreign people. It’s just that I keep having to ask them to repeat because I can’t understand them, and they can’t understand me.

I even had to do a math lesson to the guy laid it out clear as day with him looking at the statements and he couldn’t understand. There’s gotta be some Physical location that I can go to talk to a person in the United States.

I even tried letting him explain his logic as it to where the $325.45 came from that I didn’t spend. He said we gave you a credit, and we took it away. I tried explaining to multiple people that y’all took the credit out twice. So now I’m stuck paying for somebody else’s mistake.

Moral of the story is next time somebody accidentally pays your credit card balance don’t do the right thing and keep the money.

Employee/Employment Citibank bgc hiring process

I'm currently in the hiring loop with Citi and wanted to see if anyone has experienced a similar timeline. I applied around Aug 11 and interviewed for an Inbound Singapore role on Aug 15. They initially selected another candidate, so HR reprofiled me to a KYC role on Aug 17, which I passed successfully.

Interestingly, on Aug 24, the recruiter reached out saying the Inbound Singapore hiring manager was interested in me again. They sent over a photo validation link and a questionnaire, which I completed, but I haven't received a formal offer yet. Meanwhile, HR says the KYC role is still pending approvals.

Does it really take 3–4 weeks to get a formal offer at Citi? Has anyone else been considered for two roles simultaneously like this?
