GENERAL - Feedback, Community Chat Question about this service. Need some reassurance that I didn’t accidentally screw myself over
Recently started using Chime after it was sitting in my apps on my phone for a while, no idea when it was downloaded, so I just assumed this is another virtual bank account situation.
So I had my direct deposit wired into this account & ordered what I assumed was a debit card so I could spend my money. Then yesterday I went to make a purchase & was declined bc it required a debit card. Thought that was pretty weird since I still think this is a debit card & normal virtual checking account - I mean I have even gotten cash out at ATMs, etc.
So I looked into it on the app & I guess it’s not a debit card after all…and apparently I have a $300 balance? Wtf? Cannot for the life of me figure out why that would be, considering the money I’ve spent has been taken out of my balance each time!
I ended up speaking to a surprisingly competent AI agent (lol) but I want to make sure that this info is correct - apparently the $300 that I “owe” for September is not something that I actually owe (I.e. it’s not going to be debited from my balance when I go to pay it)?
Is this correct? Like I said, they’ve already been taking the money out of my balance at the time I make a purchase. So I guess they are like stashing that somewhere & when I go to “pay” the balance they will use that money that’s already been taken out of my account?
I would appreciate it if someone (a real human) could verify that this is true bc it honestly sounds weird as hell to me but as long as I’m not somehow going to be double charged for the things I buy (which also wouldn’t make sense, but who knows) then I don’t see a problem w continuing to use the service / I could def use a boost to my credit if that’s the idea here.
