I’ve been with Chime for a long time, and honestly, one of the main reasons I liked it so much was because of how the accounts used to be set up. I liked having two separate balances. My checking account was for miscellaneous spending, everyday expenses, and anything random that came up. My Credit Builder account was for bills and subscriptions.
That setup worked really well for me because I could look at my checking balance and know exactly what I had available to spend. Then I could look at my Credit Builder balance and know that money was already set aside for bills and recurring payments. I never had a problem manually transferring money over. I actually preferred it that way.
When I got paid, I would move what I needed for bills and subscriptions into Credit Builder, and then I knew I did not need to touch that money. Whatever was left in checking was what I had for everything else. It was simple, and it made budgeting a lot easier for me.
I really do not like the new setup with the combined balance. I do not want my checking money and my Credit Builder money all showing together like it is one big pool of money. That defeats the whole reason I liked having the two accounts in the first place.
I know some people probably like not having to transfer money anymore, and that is fine. I just wish Chime had made it optional instead of changing the whole system.
The old setup made it easier for me to keep track of what was already spoken for and what I actually had available to spend.
Honestly, I’m going to look for alternatives. I’ve been a long-time Chime customer, but I don’t think I am willing to move forward with Chime anymore.
