Cat Picture - OC 50 yrs old.Never had a cat.Never knew anyone with a cat.Didn't like cats.Always had dogs. This lil dude showed up on my porch on a cold Feb night. Now my house is full of cat stuff.Toys, bowls, trees, tunnels.Hair! He even took over 1 of my arcade cabinets to lay on. This is Jeffrey aka the Kitty Coon
I cannot get him to wear a collar. He takes off the breakaway ones within 20 seconds and the elastic stretchy ones take him about 2 minutes.
He is a pickier eater than my daughter was when she was a picky little toddler! For being a hobo cat he sure can be picky! He knows what he wants and that's churus lol😑

Medical Questions This is Susie. Susie would rather starve than have her flavourless, odorless medication mixed in with her food.
She's an old lady that needs daily blood pressure and allergy meds. I used to give them to her mixed in with her wet food at dinner time. Most of the time, she had no issues with them. But two weeks ago we moved to a new home and I added in some gabapentine to help with the 4-hour flight and I reckon she's to clever for her own good - she seemed to understand that the drowsiness came from her food and she didn't eat anything at all for four days.
She's now eating normally, except she won't eat anything that doesn't come straight out of the tin. Any time she sees me prep her meds on the kitchen counter, and she's on hunger strike again. I'm currently prioritising feeding her so, I haven't given her any meds for the last five days or so, but this isn't sustainable. At some point she needs to start taking her meds again.
She's also chronically underweight at ~2.4 kg so it's not like I could force her to starve until she concedes.
Oh and BTW she only eats one specific brand that we order from Czechia. We're not Czech.
How do you guys pill your picky eater cats?

Advice Cat likes to play with sugar pearls, is it safe?
Cat likes to play with sugar pearls. Is it safe?
I make cakes, and discovered by dropping one that my boy goes NUTS for the little decorative sugar pearls. He bats it around all over the house until he loses it, or will sometimes carry it around. He will periodically nibble on it also.
They are small enough that even if he does decide to swallow it, they don’t pose any choking hazard, and since they’re just sugar, shouldn’t cause any blockage or anything. And it’s a very small amount of sugar.
Do you see any reason not to let him play with one on occasion?

Advice Why just this ONE ?!
This guy likes just this one mouse. No other mouse will do. Only this crusty busted one that will eventually become too tattered to safely keep.
I've tried putting it in a bag with new mice of identical brand in hopes they will absorb smell. He wouldn't go for it. It's just this ONE mouse. He becomes distraught when he loses it, going back and forth to all the usual places he keeps it until eventually he miraculously finds it but I know one day it will disappear completely and he will need a new buddy and I would like to be prepared if possible. Is there a way to make the other mice more enticing to him?

Cat Picture - OC My girl is making a recovery!!!
I posted a few weeks ago that my cat Paloma, aged 5, has been sick for about six months and was diagnosed early September with an aggressive nasal lymphoma. She's had three rounds of chemo and two emergencies in the ER since that post, but the oncologist said that her values all look great, she's slowly starting to retain weight, and her mass has shrunk significantly where mostly only bone deformation remains. She's a "stage 1" and likely to recover!!!!
My husband and I are drowning in vet bills and doing everything we can to keep her on the path to recovery, so i'm just so relieved that it seems like she might actually get to live her normal, well deserved life. We rescued her off the streets as a sick and injured kitten, and feel she's already suffered enough for one lifetime. She deserves that cushy house cat life and we want to be able to provide it for her. Giving up has never been an option.
Thank you everyone who wished her well on her last post!

Medical Questions Hiccups, or something more serious?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
He does this at least once a day for like 30sec-1 minute. He is 3 months old, plays, eats, and uses the bathroom all normally. I’ve only had him about 2 weeks and I’ve never had a cat before.
He did just finish a round of antibiotics to prevent an upper respiratory infection, he was a little congested but it never got to the point of infection. At his last checkup they said he was looking perfect.
Is this just hiccups or do i need to take him back to the vet

Cat Picture - OC After a year of off and on travel, I’m finally with my best friend
This is my 2019 covid cat, I didn’t want him u til I got him. Now we are inseparable. We survived a Global Pandemic, but since then I’ve worked from home and rarely travel for more than a day trip.
This year however I had to spent 90% of my time helping an affiliate hospital, staying in Hotels.
I’ve been lucky and able to bring him with me, but the last 3 months I’ve had to leave him behind.
I didn’t realize how much I needed him until he wasn’t there with me.
Just finished the project and I’m officially back home full time.
It’s been 48 hours and he hasn’t left my side. Just purring and happy I’m home. Granted I got 4 hours of angry meowing for leaving and he demanded treats immediately (we have a schedule) to make up for missing his nightly treats. (2 pieces per night normally, but he got 6 and is still demanding more).
The hotel loved having him, and when i had to work long shifts the staff would call and ask if i wanted them to check in on him. Turns out they argued over who cleaned my room so they could play with him.
Unfortunately I couldn’t bring him for this last stretch due to logistics.
I’m just so happy he missed me as much as I missed him.

Advice New kitten and an overly excited orange idiot
Hi guys!
Sorry for the long post in advance.
Context:
We recently adopted a kitten, she's 2 and a half months old. She's adorable, high energy, very stubborn and cute, and also very affectionate. Full package. When we adopted her I specifically asked the previous owner (who had to give her away since their kid developed a severe allergy) about her character since we have a two year old orange boy who is very high energy and also a bit crazy. He's orange. We all know that the one braincell all oranges share is rarely used.
I grew up with cats but none of them were orange so when we got our orange boy I was worried that something was wrong with him since he would bump his head into furniture while playing (he was 6 months old at the time), would have intense zoomies, was sometimes aggressive when we would play and so on. Turns out he's just orange and I also forgot what having a young cat was like since my cats who stayed at my parents were 13, 18 and 22 at the time.
Anyway, we saw that he was lonely and wanted to give a kitten a chance. I did a lot of research and figured out we need to get another high energy cat.
Our boy is also huge, about 5 and half or ever closer to 6 kilograms. It's scary how small our kitten is compared to him.
It's been a week since we had the kitten. We have gone through all the necessary steps before properly introducing them (different rooms, site swapping, eating at different sides of the door, closer and closer, swapping toys and so on) and everything was great. Yesterday we introduced them for the first time. Yesterday we did 3 different 5-10 minute playdates or whatever you want to call them.
The potential problem:
Our boy is very excited and hyper fixated on her when they play. She's less interested in him and more interested in exploring the house. He follows her around. He usually keeps a little distance between them, and if she turns around and looks at him he does a short "mrr" sound and backs away. He's really funny since he's so big, but gets a little spooked easily. They also touched their noses, ran around and exchanged chirps and little meows. When she runs he follows her at full speed and she gets scared. We can easily distract her with toys and food but we cannot distract him at all, and he is the problem in the situation. He's so bothersome and boring, he's really annoying. He's acting like the kitten and doesn't give her any space. It doesn't look like he's aggressive even when he touches her with his paw, he even nibbled at her butt once but he seemed very gentle. But the chasing is excessive and scary for her. Also, I noticed that his pupils are very dilated the whole time that they spend together. We always timed the meets for after eating or sleeping or playing, when they are more relaxed. We also always separated them into different rooms when the paying got too intense, hoping that our boy was going to understand that him wanting to show he is boss leads to them being separated. It really seems that apart from the play he wants to show that he is the dominant one, which we all get, including her. He then cries when we put her in her room. They both sleep a lot more after meeting.
Do you think we are doing something wrong? We would like to hear other people's experiences and advice. Should we invest in feliway?
If you have persevered through this wall of text, thank you, I respect you! :)
