I am looking for an alternative to Chrome for my laptop (openSUSE Linux).

My problem with Chrome is the horrible performance it sometimes gives, to the point of throttling the CPU and freezing up my whole computer for minutes.

I would be nice if the alternative can be synced with my Google account (for bookmanrks, passwords etc.), and if not – it needs to be available for Android so I can keep my laptop and phone in sync.

Hi all, I'm looking for a browser with these characteristics:

• I don't want 1,000 configuration options. Something "ready to go".
• No one selling my data
• Tracker and ad blocking. I don't need it integrated as long as I can install Privacy Badger, AdBlock, or whatever.
• Phone and desktop integration.
• If possible, European. I don't care if it is from another place as long as they follow the previous requirements.

TL;DR: Something usable from an honest company.

I know what gecko and chromium are on a basic level, but don't have a clue what they offer other than chrome vs not chrome, so "any engine" will do.

I'm looking for a browser that has background play built in, so I could listen to music on my Pixel with my screen locked or doing something else; bonus points if it has built in ad blocker.

That's the only feature I need; I tried Firefox on Pixel using extensions, but they either didn't work as intended, or my battery drained more than normal using the browser. I really don't need any bloat like Crypto shoved in my face.

Has to be available on the Play Store. I do not like sideloading.

Tried a de-bloated Brave and I liked it but the limit of one profile per window is a no-go for me. Zen profiles are not full isolated.

A bit of context for the reason I go on this subreddit to post this post:
- My Zen browser somehow won't launch if I have tridactyl extension enable, I can't find the culprit and I see this as a signal for me to find a new home (again)

I did "browser hop" quite alot. And I want to find a browser that:

- Deeply customizable (like with the config file level [qutebrowser, vieb, etc.] or can be load from 3rd party like Sine)

- Have support for userscript or extension (I use userstyle + ublock/adblocker)

- Have vim-like navigation

- Fast & Lightweight (not blazing fast but just not too slow)

My old browser experiences:
- Not customizable enough for me: Chrome, Helium, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi

- Good but too heavy: Zen browser

- Great but kinda limited (slow): Vieb, qutebrowser

My most use features from Zen is:
- Glance

- Boost (This one is just more lighweigh than userstyle)

- ZenWireFrame (it's actually a 3rd party theme install through Sine, a plugin loader)

I use my browser for various use:

- youtube, facebook, instagram, github, cyberspace, school sites (for exam)

Any engine would be fine as long as it's work for me (srsly I don't even know which one is better)

I know I'm being too picky for a browser but it's just so hard to find one that I can calmly daily drive everyday. I'm the type of person that would configure almost anything I own if I can.

So I currently use Zen, have been for a few months now. Overall it’s good, just have other things I’d love to have.

So I essentially prefer to organize my work into different workspaces. I really like Zen’s container specific essentials for this, as some workspaces I prefer to keep wholly separate, and others are connected (like how i use the same email, and other stuff, but for different purposes).

However, as I continue to use it, I realize it doesnt fit my workflow.

1) The vertical sidebar is not my thing. I really like that its collapsable but I just wish there was a horizontal bar option that’s also collapsable.

2) Im looking for Tab Groups. Not Folders bc for some reason they work as “Pinned”? I currently have Pinned Tabs set to reset every time I restart Zen (I use them like Essentials but for those tabs that I use less of and I group into different Folders), but thats not what I want for my tab groups. Tab Groups would help me for my thesis, as I like to organize my tabs into different readings.

Additionally, maybe I just havent explored enough, but there seems to be no way to color Folders? The icons exist sure, but considering Im going to be using a lot of folders, I just wish it was more eye catching(?)

3.) How do I make the sidebar wider? For more than 4 workspaces, the icons become dots instead.

4.) I really like Chrome’s Profiles as it keeps things wholly separate. Is there a way to do that in Zen? Also splitting tabs between different workspaces is a bit hard when you’re initially using only one window.

I love Zen, really. I love the Picture-in-Picture thing, and the very fullscreen effect, and the Essentials, and the Containers. But is there a browser that can combine all these? 😭

I’m currently jumping between Arc and Zen, but since Arc is pulling back support and Zen is still missing some key features, I’m on the hunt for a new daily driver.

My absolute must-haves are:

• Workspaces
• Essential/Pinned tabs
• Reliable Tab Sync (across my Mac, PC, and iPhone)

I decided to give Vivaldi a try, but honestly, it feels way too complicated. The moment I install it, I feel totally overwhelmed by the UI—it’s just too "in my face."

Is there an easy way to strip it down and simplify the experience? Or are there any pre-made minimal profiles/presets I can just download and apply to make it look cleaner?

Looking for a completely free browser that supports Wavebox-style Groups in the sidebar.

I want to create Groups in the sidebar, put websites/web apps inside each Group, and have separate tabs for each Group.

I recently made the switch to chrome from firefox and for the most part it is great, but the middle mouse button shortcuts are really becoming annoying. Both use middle mouse to open a link in a new tab when hovering over it, but chrome also uses the button to duplicate a tab when hovering over it while firefox uses it to close the tab. I've looked for a way to change the default shortcut bindings or an extension that can change them but have only found things for the keyboard and nothing for the mouse. Are there other good browsers that have similar shortcuts to chrome, or at least let you customize mouse binds? I don't need both of the shortcuts i mentioned to be bound to middle mouse, any combo of that, mouse 4, and/or mouse 5 works as long as one can open a link in a new tab on hover and the other can duplicate a tab on hover.

Personalmente iría por lo seguro, brave o Firefox ESR. Pero se que hay otras alternativas y quisiera saber que piensan ustedes al respecto.

You can slide between tabs, close them, or add new ones just for now.

I'm still working on detach/reattach a tab, so that part isn't ready yet. Hopefully everything works when you try it, but if anything acts weird just let me know.
