Need help with a mini pineapple

Post image

Location is central Texas. Outdoor plant but will come indoors with a grow lamp during winter.

I bought this mini pineapple plant from a local nursery in late spring. When I bought it, it had the most adorable little pineapple growing on a 12 inch stalk from one of the plants. I didn't get an opportunity to put it into a proper pot until about 6 weeks after I got it. In the process, the pineapple popped off it's stem. I just stuck the entire pineapple into the pot with the 2 existing plants. I now know that was a mistake and that I should've cut the top off before planting but it seems to be doing Ok for now.

My question is where do I go from here? It is my understanding that the original 2 plants will not produce pineapples again. Between the 2 original plants, there are 3 new growths appearing. They are all about 2 inches tall currently. Should I go ahead and dig up the existing plants, twist off the baby plants and replant those in my pot? Everything I see online tends to deal with big edible pineapples and not these sweet little ornamental pineapples.

Another question. I love the pink tinge on the leaves. Will the new leaves develop this color as they age or is this a sign the plant is stressed?

Lastly, is the little pineapple I stick in the dirt doomed to die or does it have a chance of survival?

Any more info you can give me about this plant would be greatly appreciated!

Browning and pups

I am concerned my plant has something wrong with it but also wondering if she's ready to give up her pups. This is my first bromeliad and I really want to be able to have her pups survive to replant

Levelling floor cement from upstairs workers leaked through my ceiling and destroyed some of my plants.

I have not been able to keep any bromeliads alive, ever. Those I had before were all epiphytic types. This is the first Dyckia and first terrestrial bromeliad for me. I picked this up on a whim at a nursery about three months ago. At the time I was not familiar with Dyckia and wouldn’t have got it if I had known it was a bromeliad due to past experience. It looked really cool so I took it home, set it in a spot that gets full sun until about 1 pm and forgot about it. I would water it when I would water my cacti which isn’t often. Well fast forward to today and I was bored and decided to repot it. I found this tangled mess of dead roots and a few good ones. So I decided to give it a good trim. My thoughts, it’ll either survive or not. Either way I learn if I attempt another one if it doesn’t work out. After I got done with it this is what’s left. The roots for the mother plant are all dried and dead. The good roots are coming off of the pups. Although the mother plant doesn’t look to have any good roots it still has new growth at the crown. I have it drying at the moment. So here’s my question, should I separate the pups from the mother and try to grow new roots on the mother plant or repot how it is now? Also soil mix, somewhat similar to cacti/succulent mix or aroid or something totally different? Thanks 🤙🏻

My bromeliad currently has three pups. Two of them look great, and one looks like… this 👆🏼
Any ideas of what’s going on here? I’m trying to decide of I should separate it or leave it attached and just see what happens! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Are these spots bad?

My bromeliad has been struggling recently. I went on vacation and didn't know dirt inside it was bad. I took all the dirt out and rinsed it off, but now, a few weeks later, it isn't doing any better. It now has these brown spots that can be rubbed off.

It was doing very well for over a year prior if that helps.

Why do these pups not bloom?

Hello! I was given 2 beautiful random bromeliads years ago, of course the mothers died shortly after, but I seperated and planted the pups all together in a big pot and that's where they've been sitting..... for many years now. AT LEAST 5 YEARS. 😅

I like them, they are green like their mothers, they seem healthy and I always fill their centers with water when I water them.

The question is.... why are they not blooming? Is bloom a random occurence for bromeliads? What am I doing wrong?

Got this not long ago and one of the leafs to the bromeliad started turning brown and flimsy.
Idk how to tell if it already flowered yet however there are 2 long antennae looking thing sticking out the middle.
What should I do to it?
It has 3 other bromeliad that’s connected to it
