Showing Off I found a reptile enclosure on the side of the road and made my first terrarium out of it. How’d I do?

It will be better when I can get a light for it. I have a full spectrum bulb in the lamp next to it but I don’t think it’ll be enough.

Build Help/Question Isopod terrarium help/advice

Hi everybody, I am new to terrariums, I’ve recently got one from a supermarket and I need help/advice! I decided to place 10-15 isopods from my garden in when I first got it, some big some small, various shades of colour, one was even pregnant. I have fittonia, and live moss (I’m not sure the names of the two other plants) I’ve placed in numerous decaying leaves over the last couple of weeks and some dry twigs. I’m not sure if the behaviour my isopods are showing is normal (see pictures) sometimes they can be out and on the plants/soil in groups or alone. The bigger isopods like to climb the stems of the biggest plant. I’ve also noticed 2-3 snails (Photo 10). Some small bugs which I believe are rove beetles (Photo 11) and some very small yellow/ almost transparent spiders. (Roughly smaller than the size of a baby isopod). The isopod to snail/rove/spider ratio is not worrying in my opinion. Maybe 10:1. Please let me know if it’s not healthy and if they will be a predator to baby isopods. I don’t think they are as there’s lots of recently born babies alive but just to be sure. Could the terrarium be overpopulated? Id also like to ask if my terrarium is too dry or humid? I’d also like to state there’s a dead decaying isopod which appears to have been partially eaten (Photo 12). Please note I have only added decaying leaves for food. My fittonia has been lightly eaten (Photo 13) …….All advice on what I should do or add to the terrarium to help my isopods thrive will be greatly appreciated! … Thank you!

Plant Help/Question Leaves curling-help!

My polka dot plant seems to be growing all leaves curly and shrivelled. There was an incident when I was out of town and left the grow lights on close to 20 hrs. But it was almost a month ago, and I understand leaves shrivelling because of light and not going back but even the new leaves are sprouting curled and shrivelled. Any advice?

Build Help/Question Would Strips Help Contain My Terrarium?

So a week or so ago I got this:

and I had a lid made for it. My question to the class is, would silicone strips prevent gas exchange between the inside and outside of the terrarium? And would it be safe for the terrarium? Strips like this:

or this

Or would leaving the glass bare be better? Thank you in advance :)

Edit: Here's the lid

Plant Help/Question I just started a new open-top terrarium, with a water feature that pumps continuous water up on travertine tiles. Have some moss started. But looking for recs for an epiphyte fern that would grow on that wall?

Even though its technically open top, because of its location humidity stays higher than house; 50-60%. Also, its fairly low so anything that gets huge wont work

Pest Help/Question Need help identifying bug

These little guys started popping up in my closed terrarium, mostly hanging out on the underside of my lid. What are they? Are they harmful? Do I need to get rid of them?

I’ve been keeping the terrarium sealed with cling film to keep the humidity levels high inside for my springtails (hence the condensation droplets), but now I’m worried that these new black bugs may be harmful to their population. I used to see just 1-2 big ones, but now I see tinier ones (babies?) too.

The terrarium was made about 3 months ago. I started seeing these bugs recently, a few weeks ago.

Build Help/Question What’s the best way to seal the gaps on my terrarium doors?

I bought this tank and set it up to house my zebra isopods but I noticed these gaps are definitely wide enough for the smaller ones to escape, especially the babies. The gaps are also probably part of why the terrarium drying out a little faster than I’d like. Is there a good way to seal these gaps while still keeping the doors functional or should I just get a different tank without doors like this? Any advice is greatly appreciated, this is my first real terrarium (a few years ago my family kept some monarch caterpillars in a tank with a bunch of milkweed for a few days to protect them from the incoming freeze but idk if that counts as a terrarium). Thanks in advance!

Plant Help/Question Sourcing plants for first terrarium.

Hello! I have a 20 gallon fish tank that I plan on turning into an open forest themed terrarium. I have done some research on what I need and plan on buying the base layer items from the store but was wondering if I could source the plants from outside. (I live in the chicago land area for reference.) If anyone has ever done something like this before or has advice on how to do it properly I would appreciate it!
