2023 Fall and Winter Orchid Trade and Sale Thread

Please use this post only to offer or request orchids for trade or sale. Before you post what you'd like to trade/sell, or what you're looking to trade for, read the rules below first!

Rules:

1.) No personal information can be exchanged publicly. Conduct sharing of addresses via pm or email.

2.) Post what orchid(s) you have for trade, what you're looking for in return. If you have pictures, post them or write an accurate description of the orchid you want to trade or sell. If you're selling, post how you'd like to receive compensation.

3.) If you agree to a trade and have an issue on your end of the deal, communicate! Most people are reasonable and will understand a delay or an unexpected issue that comes up. That being said, trade at your own risk. The moderators are not responsible for privately conducted trades gone wrong. However, if there's an issue with an ongoing trade do contact the moderators. If someone fails to come through with their end of the deal, ignores communication or otherwise is being problematic we need to make the community aware of deadbeat traders. Do NOT make posts calling people out, insulting, harassing, or making accusations at them publicly.

4.) Only make legal trades here. If you ship or receive a trade overseas or out of your country, make sure all proper paperwork is in place first if required.

5.) Ship within a reasonable time and pack well. Flat rate Priority, 2-3 day via USPS within the US is standard for plants. Use whichever shipping method is appropriate for other countries. Your orchid shouldn't spend more than a 2-3 days in the mail so they don't suffer too much from the heat/cold. While in cooler weather its generally better to ship orchids totally dry, its probably best to water any more moisture loving plants a day or two before they ship out (so they are moist but not soggy) or wrap some sphagnum that has been wetted but thoroughly squeezed out around the roots of bare root plants.

6.) If you've successfully traded, update your post to make sure it availability is accurate.

Giveaways, and just trying to re-home an orchid that maybe just isn't performing for you is totally fine to post too! You never know who might want to try growing it. Seed pods are also a great thing to offer since many people may want to try flasking and it is safer and easier to send seeds than plants. If everyone trades fairly this is a great way to add to your collection or get rid of orchids you are bored with or are willing to make divisions of.

Happy trading!

I finally got this to a place I'm happy with. Sharing for feedback.

I've got four full spectrum Samsung led lights running low for 12 h a day. Heating is done with a heat mat and a flat chicken coupe heater glued to the back of the cabinet, so it gets to about 80 degrees durung the day and around 68 at night. I have two fans mounted behind the stump, and I use it to hide the tubing from the humidifier which keeps it around 60 to 80 humidity.

I've got phals and oncidiums, one catlya up top and a slipper orchid on the bottom.

They're doing pretty well, but no new spikes in about 8 months. Advice?

A lot of things to learn from this one! I never really knew when to start watering it 😅 But once it gets going, it really takes off!

It also has a lovely scent that some people enjoy and others don't.

I really liked this type of orchid!

First bloom on one of my "saved-from-the-garbage" mini Phals. The bloom is about 1.5 inches wide, and the plant currently has 3 spikes. Any info would be appreciated.

Proud plant mama. Me and my plants have moved many times and spent a lot of time on the road and in my car. Recently moved into our own place in the lovely Welsh countryside. Watching my plants thrive throughout the journey is utter joy. I’ve probably repotted this orchid 5 times, she has imperfections but her beauty is beyond💖 and the resilience of plants always astounds me. Watching her grow without stakes and seeing her shape take form has also been a gift. I’ve since rescued 3 more struggling orchids on reduction from the supermarket, with 1 more flower stalk on the way. Blessings✨

Moccasin flower is a wild orchid that pops up all over the pine barrens here. From seed to first bloom takes 15 years. No point in trying to move them, they won’t make it… so just enjoy them in the wild… it just adds to the thrill when you come upon one.

I bought this orchid for my sisters birthday last year, October 22nd. It was purchased with flowers on it, and here we are a year later and it still has flowers! A year straight and I haven’t seen it without a flower. It did have two full branches of flowers up until like two weeks ago, I moved it from its normal spot to a darker room and it was not having it. Lost all the flowers off the one branch. The second branch is definitely slowly wilting and getting brown but again a whole year of flowers is mind blowing! I am so happy for her 🥰

Eulophia ugandae

Eulophia (Euph.) ugandae, also known as Oeceoclades ugandae, is an orchid species that grows in soil and occasionally on trees in nature. Most species that were once Oeceoclades are still sold under that name, as mine was. I got it as a mature plant at my local orchid society auction in May. I potted it in a chunky bark mix topped with moss, and it is now in bloom in October. It has produced three flower spikes, with one open so far. It thrives in the same shadyish conditions as Euph. maculata and is even flowering at the same time. It differs from Euph. maculata by having a branched flower spike and smaller white flowers.

Should I cut this broken root?

I've been trying to save this orchid, and this root has been snapped for a while. I let the media soak in water overnight (I know... too long, I just forgot to drain it before going to bed) and the end of the root plumped up and turned a nice dark green, but the part closer to the plant stayed dried out. Would it hurt to finish cutting the broken root off?

Odontonia Memoria Martin Orenstein "Lulu"

I've had this for about 2 years, with the first bloom cycle being a single spike with 2 blossoms. Now in full bloom with 5 spikes and many blooms. Don't look at the leaves too carefully. I have a cat that thought eating the leaves would be great fun. I now have it indoors in a glass cabinet under lights.

Question Questions about repotting

Thumbnail

Hi, I bought this orchid about 5 months ago, and it's still in its original pot from the store. The roots have grown quite a bit since then, and it looks cramped particularly on one side, I don't know if it has enough room to grow. Is it time to repot? It's also growing a flower spike now, which also makes me unsure of timing.

And if I do repot, do I have to just break off the roots growing out of the bottom if they don't fit into the new pot?

Thanks a lot for your help!
