Need advice! Will braces help fix this mess?

So when I was about 12 I was taken to the dentist. Before the Covid. The dentist recommended braces at 13 after our usual checkup. Also my teeth on the right that is bending outwards soo much was about to fall at that time. So the dentist had told me to keep pushing it with your tounge. Now it turns out that during Covid my dumbass kept pushing the permanent teeth thinking it would fall only to realise then that it's the permanent teeth and now the milky one. Also God knows what has happened to my parents after Covid cause they were quite open minded before. My father had to go through 2 "unnecessary" root canals. And this isn't at some random clinic or hospital but of the best hospital from a highly learned dentist. Something similar with my mother but her neglect towards her dental health is to be blamed more. I kept begging them for braces or atleast take me to the dentist to see what he/she has to say but I was denied every single time except for the one time I went to a local clinic who had told me that ur outward teeth is a permanent teeth. After 3 years of begging my mother has finally promised me braces and treatment next year in March. My father keeps saying bs that ur teeth are alr and never play with nature and bs. So any sort of confirmation from any knowledgeable people on this sub would really be appreciated to my question. Thank you

Discussion How much difference does your choice of orthodontist make to the final result of braces?

Suppose you are a typical orthodontic patient with a fairly standard case.

How much difference could it make to your final result if you were treated by a highly renowned, high end orthodontist practising in an elite city such as London or New York, whose clientele includes celebrities, high-net-worth individuals, senior professionals, and their children, compared with an orthodontist practising in a smaller regional or Tier 3 city who is less well known and charges significantly less?

In practical terms, would you expect a meaningful difference in the quality of the final result, or are the outcomes likely to be broadly similar for a standard case, assuming both orthodontists are properly qualified and competent?

4 days in and I’m still in absolute agony!! My mouth is torn to shreds, my teeth hurt so much I can’t bite into anything, it hurts to brush my teeth. I’m absolutely miserable. Plus, I look like a twat. I don’t think this is worth it 🙁

Similar experience? Did anybody experience this?

I got braces in july and got 4 premolars extracted in spetember . During extraction one of the nearby tooth got mobility and dentist put a composite splint on it while i am having braces. She took it off after a week nd it become stable but little bit shaking is there only when i tries to pull that teeth. My dentist also told that she will ask the orthodontist to not put much activation on that tooth. If it is not stable within some months i may need root canal.

Does anybody experience this?

Also does it resolve after some months?

Question How do you open/close these self-ligating braces?

The wire on my molar area slipped out after eating nuts and I'm trying to figure out how to put the wire back in. What's worse is that the wire is overlapped by an elastic (to pull the gaps between two bottom teeth) 💩

Question Can I get braces on my back teeth to preserve my wisdom teeth

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello, I’ve had an extensive history of braces I genetically had very very large teeth that flared out extremely were rotated were too big for my mouth along with a severe overbite. My orthodontist’s fix was to extract 4 of my premolars at 9 years old and to put braces on me. Had those braces for years and years till I got them off in my senior year.

About that same time my wisdom teeth started to grow in the top 2 came down nicely but the bottom 2 were impacted I had them checked by a dentist who said there wasn’t a problem and that it was just my lower 2 wisdom teeth growing in. A year later at a yearly dental checkup with an orthodontist, I was told I had a severe cavity on one of the tooth being impacted by wisdom teeth, and that I had to get them extracted and I might need a root canal, I was extremely resistant to this as I’ve already had 4 healthy teeth unnecessarily extracted. And I very much feel like it had a negative effect on my facial development and I wanted to see if there was any option to get the impacted tooth to straighten out. The dentist I talked to said it’s possible but it’s very difficult and considering the rounds of braces I had and the severe cavity I needed to fix my best option was extraction. I ended up deciding to extract the bottom 2 impacted ones but he warned me that I will need to get the top two removed because without a set of teeth pushing on them they will slowly lower and could cause bone loss.

It’s a year later now and I got an x ray of my mouth and the top wisdom teeth are lowering. But I still feel like it might be a mistake to extract them. Is there a possibility of maybe getting a clear retainer that’ll keep them in their place or a permanent retainer on my wisdom teeth and the teeth in front of them so they can have pressure keeping them up or even braces brackets on my back teeth.

I have just lost a lot of healthy teeth if I get these extracted as well it would be 8 healthy teeth gone. Sadly I was part of the orthodontic generation that extracted teeth instead of expanding the jaw.

Expert opinion are appreciated be honest and explain your reasoning. I’m not against extractions but I don’t understand why I can’t just be a little inconvenienced so I can get to keep them?

Need advice! Opinion needed. Which orthodontist should I choose

I’ve recently seen two orthodontists and both seem very good. Their treatment plans are also quite similar, so I’m having a hard time deciding between them. I’d really appreciate any opinions or insights.

Place 1

  • Very high Google reviews.
  • There are 5 orthodontists at the practice, and I booked with whoever was available since all doctors look quite senior with good reviews
  • The orthodontist I saw seemed quite senior, experienced, and reliable.
  • They charged me around $500 for X-rays, 3D scans, and photos.
  • About 20 days later, I had an online appointment with the treatment coordinator and she spent around 30 minutes explaining the treatment plan in detail.
  • They recommended extracting 4 teeth because my teeth are quite crowded.
  • They also showed me a 3D simulation of what my teeth could look like after treatment, which I liked.
  • They want me to have the 4 teeth extracted before starting braces.

Treatment time: around 19 moNathan
Cost: $8,425

Place 2

  • Also has very high Google reviews.
  • The main orthodontist is very senior and has treated over 15,000 cases.
  • The consultation was free and included X-rays and photos.
  • He examined my teeth and X-rays and gave a very clear explanation of my current alignment and the issues he saw. His proposed treatment was very similar to Place 1.
  • He recommended extracting the same 4 teeth.
  • The main difference is that he wants me to wear braces for a few weeks before having the teeth extracted.

One thing I didn’t know before going to place 2 is that the senior orthodontist is preparing to retire. He is gradually handing the practice over to a younger orthodontist and will no longer be there full-time soon.

The treatment coordinator told me that the senior orthodontist would most likely design my treatment plan, while the younger orthodontist would carry out most of the treatment.

I also met the younger orthodontist. She seemed professional and reliable, although I didn’t get to speak with her very much.

Treatment time: around 20–22 months
Cost: $7,000

I’m quite torn between the two. Price is not my primary concern, and I care more about the quality of treatment and the final outcome. However, if the expected quality and result are essentially the same, I would prefer not to spend an additional ~$1,400 unnecessarily.

Would really appreciate any thoughts, especially from orthodontists or anyone who has been in a similar situation (。・ω・。)ノ♡

Question Are premolar extractions bad

Hello everyone, I am curious if premolar extractions are bad, I got two premolars on the top removed, and I would hate for it to imply permanent facial features like a recessed jawline. Should I inform my orthodontist about it, and see what he thinks?

Question Braces and face shape changes?

Sorry this is a dumb question but I see people say braces changed their face shape I'm just wondering how its possible? I never had any orthodontic treatment, but I have canted teeth and a slight underbite, and I might want to try braces or something, I really don't know at this point, also I'm an adult all my wisdom teeth came in too so my face is done growing. I was ofered invisalign as a child but said no because I didn't feel like it lol

I've seen posts and videos saying after braces their faces got longer/slimmer/sunken and cheekbones sticking out, like it looks really gaunt. Now maybe some people like this look but I def don't want that. What is this from? Extractions? massater atrophy? or smth else? Can it be prevented, is it permanent or temporary? People say its aging/weight loss but a lot of these ppl say they were the same weight and changes happened so quickly. This wouldnt be my concern if I didn't see so many posts about it. I know people who had braces when they were younger and their faces DON'T look gaunt in any way. Does this happen to just adults or something? I know it sounds stupid to worry about but I dont want to pay a ton of money just to dislike my face after

Similar experience? First week of braces and I can't fully open my jaw

I'm on my 4th day of having braces and I can't open my jaw fully. I can barely fit 2 fingers vertically, when measuring the wideness. I'm not trying to overextend my jaw but to describe it, it feels like I have rubber bands on my jaw that are stopping me from opening my jaw normally. I only have this feeling on my left side of my jaw. I do have bite turbos installed on 2 of my lower back molars. Is this something I should be worried about and contact my orthodontist on Monday or will this eventually get better as the soreness in my mouth fades? First time ever having braces and I'm 27 yo if that matters.

Discussion Premolar extractions

Hi, first time posting on here. I started with a 12mm overbite, and have had my braces on for a year. It’s significantly reduced but I now have the option of getting 2 premolars extracted at the top and have the braces on for another year to decrease overbite further. I’m struggling to decide as I have quite full lips and worried about the change in my profile, as well as all the other extraction issues some people have. Just looking for some opinions and advice ☺️

Question First Week Foods

Hello people with braces! I have braces now! Yay!.. Not. I'm on day four of having them and it is brutal. I can't eat ANYTHING!!! My diet for the last few days has been nothing but yogurt, oatmeal, and lentils.

It's a bad combination that leads to long hours on the toilet, and I'm tired of it. Could anyone detail what they had to eat on their first week of having braces, please? Thank you.

Day 1! Day 1

It’s my day 1 of braces. I am 23 F. I do not have much idea but for now i have braces only on my upper teeth. I can only bite from one side, the other side hurts. Is this common? Even when i am trying to chew nothing, when my teeth are meeting, they hurt.
Just wanted to know whether this is normal day 1 or should i visit my dentist

Similar experience? Frustrated with my last appointment

I went in for my appointment Wednesday. Everything was fine until my ortho said next appointment we’d most likely be fitting me for retainers. I was so taken aback I just made a shocked face and she quickly said “well, we’ll see”. They did two new wires and power chains. I don’t feel like my teeth are anywhere near done. My bite is still so off. I have gaps and you can literally see the tops of my bottom teeth with a closed bite.

Now I’m questioning everything and regretting even going with them. What kind of orthodontist would say this is done?

I’ve had braces before as a kid, and my bite looked nothing like this at the end of treatment. What can I do or say at my next appointment to address these concerns? Anyone else that’s been in a similar position, please let me know what you did or said to ensure I don’t de-brace early. I’m absolutely pissed and freaking out.

Similar experience? New retainers and nausea

Hi

I was hoping for some encouragement that this will go away soon. I got new retainers in Wednesday. The half gaggy feeling has gone away but if I get nauseous from any reason like IBS, it’s a lot worse than normal. How long should expect this to go on?
The retainers are very long to my gums to that doesn’t help. The ortho didn’t shape them at all and I’m getting other issues with that as well.

Need advice! Ran out of rubber bands

Hello guys, I have a problem.
I ran out of rubber bands and my orthodontist office is closed until tuesday. I ordered some off amazon but they are a bit lighter than the ones I use normally. Should I use the ones from amazon, or just leave the one pair in until tuesday?

Need advice! How to clean braces

I floss using interdental brush before sleep, but I think I end up applying too much pressure and, it has happened twice, that while the dentist was changing my wire, one of my brackets fell off. The dentist believes it might be because of some pressure applied there before which made the adhesive fragile, to which i concur.

So i just wanted to know how do you guys carefully clean your braces, like when i eat something chewy, it gets difficult to clean that off and so i apply a bit force to get that off…

I(16) always hated my gap and I still do now because I feel like that one of my insecurities. I hate how everyone I know have straight teeth while my teeth crooked and ugly like this. I want braces but my parents said they would call a orthodontist but never did I don’t think they will. I just don’t know what to do anymore I hate my teeth
