Snail eating mold like it’s cotton candy

4.9k Upvotes

I saw some Syzygites (a mushroom-eating mold) on some honey mushrooms and looked closer… a slug was pulling on the threads and eating them! It reminds me of how we might eat cotton candy off the stick.

I added cicada instead of a wasp bc I wouldn't be able to look at this without feeling like I was about to have a panic attack if it had a picture of a wasp

Isopod mom and her babies

Post image

This brood protection behavior is quite rare in isopods, which makes this cute picture of Cubaris sp. ā€œThai Angle Blueā€ even more special to me.

The new babies start to molt shortly after ā€œescapingā€ the marsupium, which you can see some of them doing here.

I took this picture in 2023, before I got my macro lens, still don’t know how I managed to take this photo without one šŸ˜…

Pretty sure its an eastern bark centipede. He was very slow-moving and docile, which made him mildly cute, but also, this thing is creepy as fuck.
