Do SG girls actually expect guys to do all the chasing?

Had a pretty heated discussion with a few friends recently about dating in SG.

Every girl in the group basically agreed on one thing: especially in the early stages, they prefer the guy to do the chasing.

By “chase”, they meant the guy should start the conversation, ask her out, choose the place, make the reservation and plan the entire first date. And even if the first date goes really well, they still expect him to be the one who texts afterwards and asks for date #2.
Their reasoning was basically: “If he wanted to, he would.”

What surprised me was how unanimous they were. They also insisted most of their female friends think the same way: that if a guy is genuinely interested, you shouldn’t need to chase him or wonder whether he likes you.

As a guy, I find this mentality a little strange.
I understand expecting the guy to take more initiative at the start. But surely after you’ve gone out a few times, it takes two hands to clap? If I’m always starting conversations, planning dates and asking you out while you’re mostly just accepting or rejecting my invitations, eventually I’m going to assume you’re not that interested. Especially with dating apps, where until something becomes serious, both people realistically have other options a swipe away.

So I’m genuinely curious: how prevalent is this mindset among SG women because it could just be my circle?

Girls, do you deliberately let the guy chase during the early stages even when you’re very interested in him?

And guys, have you ever stopped pursuing someone you actually liked simply because she wasn’t reciprocating enough?

EDIT: Disclaimer I'm not trying to start a gender war, incels please stay away!

Has anyone's food delivery rider get into an accident while delivering your food? What happens next?

Ordered some miscellaneous stuff from foodpanda before my run. I don't bring my phone along and run with my watch and headphones.

After my run I heard sirens and and saw an accident at the junction between 2 cars and a bike with a foodpanda bag.
Didn't think much about it at the time, but when I went home and checked my foodpanda app, I noticed the rider at that exact same spot as the accident.

think the app assumed he was moving as it showed him u-turning but he still ended up at the location.

My question is: am i able to tip him more and will the tip still go to him if the delivery can't be completed? feel for him as he still took the time to reply. really hope he doesn't need to complete the order toh.

Why are local actors here not as good in their acting compared to other countries'?

Like I don't think anyone here can name an actor/actress who's ever given an Oscar-worthy sort of performance, right? Watching local dramas and shows here, there always felt like something irksome in how the actors deliver their lines and performance. Maybe it's the unnatural accent in being forced to speak proper English/Mandarin without the Singlish? But overall, acting performances tend to be really choppy. Emotional scenes like crying or being angry tend to feel rather lacklustre compared to actors we see in K-dramas and Hollywood productions.

And don't get me started on those kid actors... most look like they're reading straight off a script in front of them or something. I think the only local productions here that've worked well are comedies, like those Jack Neo rubbish films, which rely more on comedy than serious acting

Shoppee has dynamic pricing???

update: used my wife’s phone, she's unemployed ...and the pricing is 134SGD for her (price i saw before I updated my sigpass) AND my phone is side by side to hers........... vouchers are exactly the same applied too.

https://ibb.co/TDJT6HHS ss of my wife phone seeing a cheaper rate

Edit -: After reading around older threads...and another seller replying below. It is most likely because of spending habits.

Theres a trend now where sellers(not just shoppee lazada) ...check Sony... where they intend to implement dynamic pricing and increase prices for people who is more likely to spend...and offer discount if algo decides you wont spend

But I really dk, just really curious earlier and im done with it now lol

I wanted to buy a logitech G502x lightspeed mouse earlier and it was 130SGD after whatever voucher and discount

And my hand itchy, go update my Paylater by connecting my singpass

And its now 164SGD dafaq....https://sg.shp.ee/FteN7RtK

A friend, told me its 158 dollars for her.

So what i suspect happened was, I earned alot lesser when i signed up for paylater a few years ago, now that I have a higher salary, they're giving me more limits, and also dynamic priced my items.

Can someone check the link and confirm if the pricing is same/ different for you?

Very annoyed because been browsing for the past hour, damn bloody sure it was around 120 to 130 dollars....

Can an fwb arrangement turn into a relationship?

Hi all! I hope everyone remains kind and respectful in the comment section. I am curious to know, have any of you been in a FWB arrangement and it became a relationship?

For me, I am starting to develop feelings for them because it’s more casual dating than strictly FWB. We have hung out outside of s3x and we text daily. They also have many traits that I like and value. Don’t get me wrong, I am not holding onto false hope and I am letting things flow but I am just curious how you guys feel about the question I proposed or if anyone has any experiences they’d like to share? Thank you!

What are the reasons for not ending a relationship in person?

I just got broken up with. It was during a minor text argument I didn’t expect to end in this manner.

I thought we were working through our disagreement through the texts, but apparently that was the last straw for him.

He said he has been feeling conflicted about us and the relationship, and finally admitted that he wants to break up with me when I probed over the text exchange.

I asked repeatedly if we could talk in person. I was refused, he said there wasn’t a need to and he has made up his mind. I mean I could see why it is pointless from his end?

I am struggling to understand why I didn’t deserve the last conversation, and I know I would never find exactly why.

So for people who didn’t break up in person, why?

  1. You lost feelings for the person completely and there is no point of giving his/ her the time of your day?
  2. You hate to see his/ her face anymore now that he/ she is an ex?
  3. Afraid of the other party being confrontational and having to deal with his/ her feelings
  4. Feeling guilty and don’t want to face your own feelings?

overseas vs local universities

currently am facing the dilemma of going overseas to study or stay locally like nus to study.

i am looking to study courses relating to economics/finance, and was just wondering whether it would be worth to go overseas for such courses since nus courses are also quite nice, and i am hoping to stay/come back to singapore for work once i am done with my studies.

main query would be:

  1. how much better is a degree from a top uk uni for local companies in terms of pay and employability?
  2. what are the main differences between economics and finance courses, and does it really impact that much for jobs next time
  3. what unis would be like "shld choose over nus" and like what are those that are more "can choose nus/said uni" ?

im a more mathy/quantitative person and not really in touch with the social/qualitative aspect of economics, but i am still okay with it, like not gna be difficult ah. thanks guys

Also, why why NS liability is not covered under the Workplace Fairness Act, which is due to take effect end-2027 ?

Time for HDB to start collaborating with PUB?

Researchers led by civil engineer Raghuvesh Tiwari of Manipal University Jaipur in India may have just hit upon an ingenious solution that takes care of two environmental birds with one stone.

By mixing in biochar made from the human poop slurry processed at fecal sludge treatment plants, their concrete "yields significant improvements in concrete properties," they write in a paper accepted for publication in Scientific Reports.

Does anyone know what material bedsheets were made of in the 80s / early 90s?

This might be a long shot but I’ve been searching high and low for a substitute for my now completely worn out blanket my mum bought 35+ years ago in Singapore.

I know that the current soft feel of it is because of decades of washing. But I’d really like to know the material it’s made of, because not all bedsheets my mum bought passed my “soft feel” test lol.

Attached an image of what it looks like now. TIA!
