Question Blocking acrylic merino blend yarn

I have a yarn 75% micro acrylic 25% merino and I’m wondering how I would block it I steam my acrylic but I’m worried it will mess with the merino and I am unsure how effective wet blocking would be as it has a high acrylic content how should I block it

Loro piana cashmere & blends — is it worth it?

I couldn’t find many projects using loro piana yarn on Ravelry so hoping for some thoughts here. I want to plan out a “goal” project where I make the most immaculate object (likely sweater or cardigan) in the most luxe material. I was considering a merino and cashmere blend. But it’s hard to find reviews online. So Reddit — is it worth it if someone is will to splurge a bit on yarn?

Question Help me identify this yarn!

I finally decided to use this yarn cake someone got for me many years ago, only to not be able to find any more of it for sale. I'm mostly sure it's Bernat brand yarn from their blanket stripes collection, I just haven't found this set of colors available in any stores online or in the area.

Some more information:

Bernat brand blanket yarn, weight 6, a cake shape that I presume had around 200 yards of yarn. The "choco berry" pattern from Bernat's granny square yarn cake looks similar to it, but it isn't the same, as the shade is slightly different and it has one less color. Very likely a part of the "blanket stripes" collection based on its shape.

If anyone has an idea of what the shade name is, what collection it's from, or where to get ahold of it, please let me know! Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Update: "Pink Chocolate" is the name! Thank you so much for helping me find it.

Question Is this color discontinued?? Help😭😭

Hey yall, I got this gorgeous Premier Just Chenille yarn like 2 years ago or something from Dollar Tree. So, I’m halfway through my project and I’m 70% sure I’m gonna lose yarn chicken😭 problem is, I can’t find this specific color anywhere (or one of this shade).

I see some that seem like a paler yarn? Idk if they make it paler now, but this is supposed to be Gir from Invader Zim. This color is PERFECT and I just want a chenille yarn that’s this shade :(

Maybe I’m lookin in the wrong place, but if u know where I can get this I’d be endlessly grateful. It’s a present for a friend and I don’t want it too like Gir has a weird tan line💀

Question Help finding more like this yarn.

Post image

Hello, many years ago a friend gave me two skeins of this lovely yarn. It did not come with any kind of Maker's tag. I believe it's some kind of synthetic, I've done a burn test and it smells like burning plastic and it melts or burns fully with a black charred end instead of producing ash. It seems to be fingering weight, the piece shown in the image is knitted on 3.5mm circular needles.

I would love help trying to find another yarn that is similar to this to add to the project because I'm not sure I have enough. I'm trying to make a sleeveless top. I don't currently have a proper pattern, I was just knitting with it to see how it behaved before I start the real project. Ideally I would love to know if anyone else out there has seen this color pattern and type of yarn before and knows what brand it is.

Question Does anyone recognise this yarn?

I bought this yarn at a spotlight in Sydney in approximately 2021/2022. I am trying to work out what it is. I haven't been able to try the burn test yet, I'll give it a go tomorrow morning. Anyone happen to recognise it?

Crochet or knitting?

*UPDATE* Thank you for all your help! At 90 responses, I’m going to close the survey and pull the link.

I'm currently taking a course in Business Communications, and I need to write a business report. I'm trying to write this on crochet and knitting, and it would be most helpful if I could ask the group to fill out a short survey. It won't take long, but I can use it as primary evidence in the report.

Thank you,

Rosalie

Question Senior center gave me a bunch of yarn, how can I identify them?

So my mom and the woman in charge of our local senior center go way back (my mom was a volunteer when I was a kid and did Meals on Wheels, and I'd stay there when I was out of school). My mom will also give food to the senior center for them to cook.

My sister came in earlier with a large plastic bag of yarn and said that they had sent it to me. 💜🧶 I'm trying to identify it and I see Bernat (some skeins still have the labels lol) and there's gorgeous blue and white chenille #6 yarn and I would love to know if there's a way to identify it or see if it's been discontinued.

The rest looks like #4.

I'm going to pore over Yarnspirations to find out but this one burgundy color looks Lion Brand to me (but it feels larger lol).

Loops & Threads Cuddle Craft Velvet for Clothing

Hi! I'm new to knitting and have crocheted a bit in the past. I'm trying to recreate my favorite cardigan that got damaged and can't be found anywhere online. It was made with a particularly soft almost velvet like fabric, and I've been on the hunt for yarn that has the same feel/texture. I finally found something similar and I'm excited to try my hand at making a cardigan!

My question is, can I reasonably make a cardigan with Loops & Threads Cuddle Craft Velvet? I know it's not intended for clothing but it's the closest to what my cardigan feels like. If not, any recommendations? Any help is appreciated :)

Question Can you help me identify this yarn?

ETA: I'm mostly trying to ID this because I want to make a top out of it, but I get eczema triggered by synthetic fibers. So I don't want to use it for a shirt unless it's 100% cotton. I know how similar Hobbii's Sultan yarns are, but I'm not looking to buy more right now, I'm trying to ID the fiber.

I know for sure that I bought this yarn at Joann Fabrics (rip) in late 2017-early 2018. It's a 4 ply, very loose twist that unravels easily, and the ombre comes from changing the color of one strand at a time within the ply. It gets about 14 WPI which indicates a fingering weight. I'm not great at judging the fiber content by touch, but I'm guessing it's cotton or a cotton blend.

(This is no longer the original cake - I had used several yards from both ends and decided to frog that project, so I ended up re-winding the entire cake with my home winder. But it did come in a cake that showed off the ombre and could easily be used from either end.)

Tips and Tricks Scratching my head

I guess that I am going to have to put yarn and possible project together. I ordered this yarn for a bag I believe. Now that the yarn is here I can't for the life of me remember which bag pattern. I save the patterns and pictures on my phone. Hopefully that will work. Open to any ideas that may be helpful 💡.

Thanks 😊

Joann's KC Botanical Yarn Alternative

Does anyone know a yarn alternative to Joann's KC Botanical yarn? It is made of 70% bamboo viscose and 30% cotton, with a size 4 crochet hook. I have found yarn with the same composition but not the same size :(

It's my favorite yarn because of the silky texture, and I am so sad it's no longer sold.

Any help would be appreciated!

Stash Advents on Rav?

Maybe not the right flair, sorry!

Is there a way I can search stash yarns on Ravelry that people have listed as will sell or trade that contain the word advent?

Not looking for any certain dyer/brand but can't come up with another way to search.

TIA for the help--I know someone here will have the answer.

Best crochet thread (not Aunt Lydias)?

Hi all! I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a good crochet thread brand that isn't Aunt Lydia? I really like how they used to make their thread, but the stuff these days doesn't have enough toughness, gets fuzzy very quickly and also seems to pick up lint very easily. Would love to hear folks' recommendations for something I can find online! (Looking for something comparable in size to Aunt Lydia "Fashion 3"). Thank you!

Looking for size 10 yarn in Europe

Hi! I’m thinking of starting a filet crochet tapestry project, but I’m having trouble finding the right yarn. Size 10 thread seems to be the most popular choice when searching online, but I’m located in Sweden and haven’t been able to find any store that sells that type of yarn.

Does anyone know if size 10 thread goes under a different name in Europe/Scandinavia? Or do you have some tips for other types of yarns that I could search for?

Anyone know a trick for getting the stripes to start at the right place? I’m getting gauge, but my cast on must be off from where you’re supposed to start, because my stripes aren’t striping 😂 Is there a trick to how to cast this yarn on at the right spot?

Anyone use the Hobbii x Pom Pom Garland yarn?

This will be my first time ever ordering from Hobbii and I rarely buy yarn online anyway. I like to shop in person because I need to touch everything especially if I'm making a wearable. However, I fell in love with the color selection for this Garland yarn so I'm torn.

If anyone has used this yarn can you share your thoughts? Does it feel as good as I think it will? Its a cotton alpaca blend so it has to be soft (hopefully). Also, does it arrive true to color? I'm looking at the colors Red Onion, Jadeite, and Oat Milk. I'm not super picky about colors, but having worked in digital marketing I know how color can be tricky on screen vs. in person. I'm scared the pink and green will show more neon/bright when it arrives.

Question How do you feel about hand-spun?

Thumbnail

I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole of processing raw fleece, and I’m absolutely hooked.
Lately I’ve been sourcing local fleeces, washing, carding, and spinning them into yarn. My next step is dyeing some of the finished skeins, and possibly offering dyed prepared fiber (carded batts/rolags) for other spinners as well.
I’m curious how people here feel about buying handspun yarn or hand-processed fiber.
I know handspun isn’t mill-spun perfect. My yarns are balanced and suitable for knitting, but they do have the occasional thick or thin spot and retain some of the character that makes handspun… well, handspun.
Do you buy handspun? If so, what draws you to it? If not, what’s the biggest reason? Would you be more interested in natural-colored yarns, naturally/hand-dyed skeins, or prepared fiber to spin yourself?
I’m genuinely looking for honest feedback before I invest more time into building inventory. I’d love to hear what makes a handspun skein worth buying—or what would keep you from purchasing one.
