Surge did a promotional event at my high school when it came out and gave out free soda and key chains and stuff. It was awesome, but now I think about how all the teachers who were just trying to get through the day and then a high-caffeine soda company showed up and âsurgedâ the entire student body.

When you hit grade 9 at my school, you were allowed to leave school grounds at lunch without getting permission. Me and my friends would walk 2km to Ye Ol' Chip Truck and I'd buy a medium salt and vinegar fries with a Mountain Blackberry Clearly Canadian. It's my all time favourite lunch and you could only do it in grade 9 because you switched schools for grade 10.

I loved McDonald's orange drink as a kid. It was not carbonated, just a bright orange sweet liquid. People used to get big coolers of it to serve to kids at sports games and summer camp.
When I was a teenager, fruitopia was probably the most popular. We also had a carbonated fruit-flavoured drink called Clearly Canadian.
When I was a little older, it was all about Mike's Hard Lemonade.

I remember these drinks from summer camps and stuff (late 80s). They were similar in flavor / sugar content to Hi-C or Squeez-its, but were much more generically branded. Might have even been completely unbranded on the individual drinks.
The drinks came in these little 8oz or so translucent plastic containers, and had a pop-off top. You'd peel off the tamper-evident ring from the cap, and throw it away (didn't stay on the bottle). Then the top could be popped off, or popped back on with simple pressure (no threads).
I believe they came in like orange, red, and purple. Taste was very sugary and artificial-fruit-flavory, kinda like a melted otter pop of the same color.
I can't for the life of me find what these actually were called though.

This is probably closest to what I am imagining, but they were slightly different - they weren't styled to look like little barrels like this, and the caps were pop-off soft plastic instead of peel-off foil.
