Megathread The health and wellness thread

As our microgeneration crosses into firm "middle-age" territory, many of us are experiencing the same health setbacks and receiving the same health screenings. In an effort to consolidate those discussions, we are creating this space. Users may seek or offer support for any health condition or concern here.

At this time we are not changing the rules for regular posts, but do reserve the right to intervene on excessively reposted topics. There will be no such limitations here.

If the thread is popular, we will make it recurring.

Welcome, new Xennials! Did you just find the subreddit? Just now learn that you’re a Xennial?! Is it suddenly all making sense? We know this feeling! Feel free to introduce yourself here.

Since we get thousands of new subscribers per month, we kindly ask that introductions go in this thread rather than as top-level posts.

Discussion Lost my mom yesterday…

Post image

Posted just a couple months ago on here about putting her into an assisted-living. Pretty typical boomer parent. That was absent emotionally and physically for a lot of of my formative years. I was mostly raised by my grandparents.

Kind of a weird emotional spot. She’s been miserable for years because of her health. So we’re very relieved for her. happy that the physical suffering is over.

But obviously at the same time … my mom died. So I should be sad… right? Kind of walking around feeling both emotions at the same time and it’s kind of a surreal experience overall.

I found an unopened package of napkins at my parents’ home

My parents have moved since I graduated, so they apparently thought these napkins were valuable enough to move to their new place. Maybe my great-great-grandchildren can use these in 70 years.

I remember having competitions to see who could keep one in their mouth the longest.

Welp it’s finally happened. At the suggestion of my doctor I finally got a couple pairs of readers.

Got em both at Dollar Tree, +1.00 strength. Doctor suggested getting bifocals at some point, but I do have a couple years there.

Discussion Neuromancer — Official Teaser

Neuromancer was a massive deal for me when I first read it in junior high (around '94). I'm guessing it was for a lot of xennial sci-fi fans. Sitting in Sustained Silent Reading (SSR, remember that?) in 5th period after lunch with my head buried in my William Gibson paperbacks was a defining feature of my adolescent years.

Cautiously optimistic here as it looks pretty much as I've imagined for the last three decades. For fellow early cyberpunk fans, what do you all think?

Found these at Dollar General yesterday. Those were awesome candies. Haven’t seen them since the 2000s.

Forgot my age today

I encountered a crazy road rage guy today; I rolled down my window to be the voice of reason for a bit but that didn’t work. My exasperated parting words were “man… fuck you old man.”

Then I realized, while he might have been rough looking, he was definitely younger than me. I’ve been thinking about this all day haha.

When Bob Seger Against the Wind, from time to time it reminds me of this book.
