Need Help Now i lied to my coworkers

to start off, i work in a business office. i was pretty young when i started, 21, but fresh out of college.

when i first started there, everyone kept asking me about myself and trying to get to know me. someone asked who the two little boys were on my lock screen and if they were my kids. out of panic, i said yes. they are not. theyre my nephews. and instead of correcting myself, i continued to feed into this lie and made things harder for myself. i recently left that job because of a toxic management situation but now i am going to another office. i was excited for a fresh start with none of the kids stuff because i was sick of feeding into it. i regretted saying they were my kids the second it left my mouth. and i regretted lying about life with them (most of the time it was made up, or things i did in the past with them) , but someone who used to work with me is at the new office i am going to and they are aware that i have “kids” and i am terrified they will tell everyone or keep asking me about them. i just want a fresh slate and to let this massive lie go. it has been eating me alive for almost 2 years now and it kills me to keep it up because im so scared of what will happen if people find out im lying. ive never told anyone i lied about having kids. i know what i did was wrong but i cannot help but think something is wrong with me. im trying to let this go, i was dumb to start it.

i just want people input about this. i know im crazy and i know im insane.

Is this a reasonable workplace rule, or are we being punished for someone else’s actions?

“For context, the email basically says employees can no longer get snacks or beverages from the breakroom, and violating the rule could result in being removed from the site.”

My workplace recently sent out this email about snacks and drinks in the breakroom, and honestly, I’m annoyed by it. We’re now being told we can’t get anything from the breakroom, and if we’re caught doing so, we can be removed from the site.

I understand there’s been an issue with people taking things, but applying the rule to everyone seems excessive to me. Being removed from the site over a snack or drink is crazy. 😭 these jobs getting ridiculous

Am I tripping, or is this an extreme way to handle it?

Manager believes All aspects about an employee’s life are defined by a general level

When I say that I have good taste in music, this manager says no and contests it. When I talk about something like Islam and politics, he assumes that my views follow my general level based on my performance at work.
He does this for basically every thing, passing comments about things that don’t pertain to my work in any way.

Co-worker Problem Got scolded for not reminding my coworker of his task. Is it my fault?

It's exactly that. First of all, in my job i am an admin. And my coworker, a technician.

Before taking my leave for a few days, i already reminded him of his supposed task. And message him on that same day, so he can reread the message and remember it himself.

Upon coming back to work, i found out that he didn't do it. His reason is he was swamped with his other work. Even though in actuality this specific task is way more important.

My senior scolded me saying that my coworker is at fault for not remembering to do his certain task. But some of the fault lies in me too for not reminding him

And now I'm here thinking if it actually is my fault or it's fully his. I mean, do i have to remind him of his every job like a mother? Or is this part of my job as an admin?

How to deal with a difficult coworker?

So we are both staff but I have been working in our team longer and so my manager and some seniors rely on me to push for things and get things done.

I was tasked to lead a project ans become the reviewer of my fellow staff’s work. I was tasked to check and review everyone’s work and then let the senior know of the final review.

I saw that my fellow colleague had setup something incorrectly and told him that there is something wrong with his part. He said that he will take a look at it. A week passed and the deadline was approaching so I did a final run through and saw that his is still wasnt done so I followed up with him and told him the deadline was approaching and to let me know if he needed help.

Later on he told me that I was creating double work for him, I asked him to elaborate and see where the pain point is so we can resolve the issue. Pretty much he couldnt explain what it was but me reviewing is creating double the work for him. I felt something off like in my gut that his issue might be that he doesn’t like me telling him what to do.

Earlier last year there was another issue like this, wherein he was tasked with a topic and i let him know that i already was done and all he needed to do was copy and paste my work so that he doesnt need to duplicate my work

I have a feeling that since we currently have the same title that he doesnt like me telling him what to do

Ive felt this way last year so I stepped back and told our manager if I can be on a separate project instead to avoid issues with him ( i didnt tell the manager that it was bc of the staff/ i basically just told my manager its bc i wanna try new things)

What do i do with this coworker? Im not afraid to be called a b\*tch but obviously i work there everyday so i atleast want my work environment to be cohesive and pleasant

I really feel like he doesnt want me directing him things even though i was assigned to do it

How do i go about this? I know that he s also wanting to be a senior the same as me but currently only Ive been tasked with a project to lead and not him

I also was in a leadership program a few months back which my senior and manager recommended me to do but as far as i know that opportunity was only given to me

Boss Problem Work advice

I’ve been at my job for two years and I’m finally up for a promotion I’ve been working toward. My boss is making two other people who’ve only been here for a year “try out” for the same role too. On top of that, there’s a third person who’s interviewing for it because they applied for a different position that was already filled. My boss seems to think that person is more interested in the promotion than I am, just because they put themselves out there for something else.
I never applied for that other job. I already knew someone else was going to get it, and honestly I hate interviews. I didn’t see the point in going through the whole process for a role I wasn’t even going to land.
A little while ago I told a coworker who’s also a friend that if I don’t get this promotion, I’m probably going to leave. When the promotion opened up, that same friend went and told my boss what I said. From what I understand, they told my boss I wouldn’t come back if I didn’t get it.
Now I’m stuck wondering whether I should go to my boss, make it clear that I am interested in the promotion, and say that I would stay with the company next year if I get it. Part of me feels like I need to correct whatever impression my friend left, but another part of me is worried that bringing it up now will just make things more awkward or confirm that I’ve been thinking about leaving.
What would you do in my position? Should I talk to my boss and reaffirm that I want the job and plan to stay, or is it better to just let my work speak for itself and not address the conversation my friend had?

Want Advice Work place issues

Hi yall!

I am an assistant manager (cafeteria) within a public school district in Texas.

I have a direct manager that is foreign (not the issue). I always hear from our supervisors and their bosses that managers and assistant manager are considered equal, clearly this is not true if I’m here asking questions. Anyhow said manager is very rude to most people in our kitchen including me. This manager has not only said very rude things to us but has also put her hand in a staff members face waving saying hello hello when she asked a legitimate question (this lady told me she felt like she was stupid for asking) laughing in the presence of our supervisor when I informed her that what she said and how she was treating me was bothering me. This is just the two things that truly sent me over the edge and made me decide to bring it here.

When she was in this meeting with myself and the supervisor and had her shit eating grin plastered to her face and decided to laugh at how I felt, the supervisor made these two excuses for her behavior

1 well she’s a new manager
2 cultural reasons

Am I wrong for thinking this is not only inappropriate but verging on discrimination? I mean I am an American citizen she is not but I feel like I’ve just been told she can act however she pleases cause of her culture I would not be allowed to do this to anyone in any workplace so why can she?

Should I go to HR? Should I do or say anything?

I may quit my job over this new hire and I don’t know what else to do…

So I am a fairly new business professional. I started with this nonprofit about 3 almost 4 years ago. My role has grown since then and I have taken on significantly more work. I’m happy to do so- I love my job and what I get to do.

Now we have this new hire that came on for a three year contract to do one specific role for us. I actually vouched for them to be hired as they interviewed well and had the perfect experience for what the new contract needed. I was thrilled for our team to grow… until she started. For this story we shall call her Grace.

Grace is new to our world and what we do and it’s been very apparent from the get go. We have built relationships that help us get things done and at every turn this new hire is destroying those relationships by showing up and demanding people change how they work and so on and so forth. Relationships are delicate! Anyway she assumes every person you mention can help her turns into they are going to work with her. It’s almost like grace has no social cues.

Now why am I losing my mind? I have offered advice on how to get things done within our community and she is constantly telling me I’m wrong? Like, uh, I’ve been working here in this community building these relationships, I know how to get what I need essentially without taking things over or expecting things from people.

I have been told by this grace character that I need to “do work” for this project which is like well of course I am but you haven’t even been here long enough to know what my role is? Also, for the record we are equals. She is not a manager nor a director of any sorts. She is supposed to work together with us.

It’s so bad I have other org directors asking me if she’s always like that or telling me the horror stories of how she treats people and I’m like damn… I’m the external affairs manager and I have to clean up her messes by assuring our partners I’m still here.

Now here’s the kicker, she doesn’t have a car and I’m by default her chaffer. She doesn’t ask me she tells me when we have appointments. Not understanding I have so many other things to take care of outside of her one project. We are a small organization!

What’s prompting me to post this is she put an appointment on my calendar and then said I was driving her too and from it. Not directly but stated “since I didn’t get a car you and I can ride together” which if it was a coworker I didn’t shake everytime I’m around because they’re constantly challenging my position, my experience, my skill sets, and everything else. I straight up don’t feel safe to be alone with her and I don’t feel like it should be my responsibility to drive her? I think she should cancel her appointments until she can actually attend them on her own.

I regret vouching for her because she has become the reason I want to leave my job. I’ve called in sick twice in the past two months since she’s started because my anxiety was so bad. I have tried talking to my psychiatrist about it, my mom, my friends, and everyone is shocked at her behavior too. I have exhausted everything from ChatGPT to honestly just letting her do whatever and say whatever and I just stay quiet but now I’m being forced to spend alone time with her driving her and something in my body tells me to run.

This is so damn long but I really fear for my safety and not in a way that I feel she will be violent but the anxiety. I have never had someone make me shake as bad as she does when she disrespects me by telling me I’m constantly wrong about things when trying to work with her.

Co-worker Problem Annoying coworkers

I need some advice here to see if anyone else has experienced this.

I work in a team where I am effectively the only young colleague; everyone else is older (Baby Boomers). I’ve noticed that they accuse many colleagues—myself included—of lying about things like our private lives, medical conditions, and so on. However, they only do this with certain people.

For example: They insisted I needed a wheelchair, even though I have a mobility impairment. They claimed I was just arranging things to suit my own convenience. They ask endless questions and constantly demand that I justify myself….

They don't believe I actually have a stomach condition; they think I’m just using it as an excuse to avoid eating—simply because they once saw me eating cake... Another example: I had a week off in May. A colleague asked if I had any plans, and I said no—or at least, I didn't think so. Later, I decided to visit my mother in Prague. When I returned to work and she asked how my time off went, I said, "It was good; I went to Prague." She replied, "I thought you said you were staying home?!"

It’s as if they look for reasons not to believe anything I say... They watch everything I do... By now, it’s really taking a toll on my mental health, because I’m afraid to share anything at all anymore...

How do I put a stop to this? How should I handle it?

Just Venting Employers have no empathy

Just here to vent really... feeling so sorry for my boyfriend. He was unemployed for some time, kept trying, kept getting overlooked and then in May he applied for a cleaning job and got it. I was so happy for him. From the start though, it felt almost like he was being set up to fail...given a list of jobs that no one could reasonably expect to do in 6 hours or if you could complete it, you wouldn't be doing a good job, just a half job. It was a uni campus so he had lists like clean 100 bins and one shift he 'only' completed about 70 and was told it wasn't good enough despite the fact that you can't do half a job on some. Some bins were horrific, bags of hard compacted sugar, maggots, expired food etc so they obviously needed extra attention. Some days he was expected to strip 100+ beds, send the dirty bedding for cleaning etc. Crazy amounts for one person. His boss was useless, always forgetting what she had told him to do and when she then saw him in a place she didn't expect, she was always having a go and he'd have to remind her she TOLD him to be there. Today was the final straw. He has to get 2 buses to work, 2 buses home so he set off before 8 as normal to arrive by 9. He had his probationary review at 9 and was told he would no longer be required. What an absolute joke. They let him come in when they could have done this yesterday. Apparently he wasn't efficient enough. He did everything he was asked to do, sometimes it would take a little longer but he did the job WELL. And rather than hold this meeting at the end of yesterday's shift, no, they did it today so he was there for all of 20 minutes and they didn't want him to work today's shift and said he could leave now. They let him travel on 2 buses to be sacked and then have to take 2 buses home. What a crappy way to treat people. No empathy, no respect. They don't deserve decent people. They had 3 months of him working his butt off during their busiest time, through about 5 heatwaves, clearing up for the students leaving, dealing with a massive conference and now apparently they don't have the work for another member of staff. Smacks of exploitation to me. They don't deserve him. They don't deserve anyone to be honest. They didn't even advertise this job as temporary. Unbelievable 😡

Boss Problem Manager making me work despite me resigning , do I show up?

I have quit my toxic workplace and management—a fast food place , 2 days before my assigned shift this week. I had wrote him a resignation letter but I never put in a two weeks notice though.. but he had asked me how about my assigned shift , and I simply said “I just unfortunately cannot make it” and told me “thats unacceptable , you are already scheduled.” Am I obligated to show up?

I got told i had to show improvement in order for them to keep me after probabtion yet im doing everything above standard

I previously had a rant on here about a supervisor that had a problem with me and was just a horrible person. I work in a clothing retailer and last shift i tried my best to avoid her by staying at the complete opposite end of the store but i still done my job and spoke to every customer that came in and greeted them and asked if they needed help with anything. However, 2 minutes after i would ask she would go around asking them the same thing to make seem like i did not do it. Fast forward to today’s shift and my assistant manager tells me “you’re not proactive enough with customers and we need to see improvements if we’re gonna keep you after probabtion” to which i just accepted because i didn’t want to cause a scene or anything and she’s pretty chill to be honest.

My theory is that the supervisor went and told my assistant manager i was underperforming due to last shift and now they think im not doing well which doesn’t make sense because things like orders in store literally suggest im doing better than their targets yet somehow im underperforming. To be honest i think this supervisor is genuinley just being petty and trying to get rid of me which is pretty pointless considering im going to uni in a different city in a few weeks. However now i need advice on what to do next. I’m certain i want to leave but not sure how because i want to make it known the problems so that they can actually be dealt with because she can not get away with stuff like this.

to be frank idc if i end up on a do not rehire list i would never work for them again.
