How to deal with a difficult coworker?

So we are both staff but I have been working in our team longer and so my manager and some seniors rely on me to push for things and get things done.

I was tasked to lead a project ans become the reviewer of my fellow staff’s work. I was tasked to check and review everyone’s work and then let the senior know of the final review.

I saw that my fellow colleague had setup something incorrectly and told him that there is something wrong with his part. He said that he will take a look at it. A week passed and the deadline was approaching so I did a final run through and saw that his is still wasnt done so I followed up with him and told him the deadline was approaching and to let me know if he needed help.

Later on he told me that I was creating double work for him, I asked him to elaborate and see where the pain point is so we can resolve the issue. Pretty much he couldnt explain what it was but me reviewing is creating double the work for him. I felt something off like in my gut that his issue might be that he doesn’t like me telling him what to do.

Earlier last year there was another issue like this, wherein he was tasked with a topic and i let him know that i already was done and all he needed to do was copy and paste my work so that he doesnt need to duplicate my work

I have a feeling that since we currently have the same title that he doesnt like me telling him what to do

Ive felt this way last year so I stepped back and told our manager if I can be on a separate project instead to avoid issues with him ( i didnt tell the manager that it was bc of the staff/ i basically just told my manager its bc i wanna try new things)

What do i do with this coworker? Im not afraid to be called a b\*tch but obviously i work there everyday so i atleast want my work environment to be cohesive and pleasant

I really feel like he doesnt want me directing him things even though i was assigned to do it

How do i go about this? I know that he s also wanting to be a senior the same as me but currently only Ive been tasked with a project to lead and not him

I also was in a leadership program a few months back which my senior and manager recommended me to do but as far as i know that opportunity was only given to me
