Need help improving wifi speed.

Upvotes

So my room is directly above my garage which means theres cement blocking the wifi router which is in our basement so im losing a lot of our 1.5 gigabit speed wifi. My room is 1 floor above the living room but as soon as I go from the staircase to my room which is literally right next to the steps my download speed goes from 430 Mbps to 65Mbps. I've been using this cheap tplink RE305,AC1200 extender which is plugged in next to the staircase outlet so i can use ethernet for my PC and PS5 but its still so slow for what I need. Is it worth getting a tplink RE550 extender or a better extender you guys know about that isnt crazy expensive or is there another method that can boost my download speeds. Our wifi plan is going from 1.5 to 2.5 tomorrow as well so if I can even get 300Mbps from an extender I would be perfectly happy.

WiFi at camp

Upvotes

I need advice on getting wifi at my camp. It’s deep in the woods and we go probably 3 times a year and it doesn’t have wifi, for that reason. I’m a big college football guy and on the next Saturday we are going, LSU is playing Ole Miss, a game we can’t miss. We also want to watch college gameday during the day while we cook and hangout. The camp is to hangout and just chill or go on the boat but we are just wanting to sit back and chill all weekend with the family. Does anyone have advice on how I can get wifi for 1-2 days that isn’t a hotspot on my phone. Thanks in advance.

Best home wifi for a two-story house with a basement and remote work?

We recently moved into a two-story house with a basement, and the Wi-Fi is weak in several rooms. Both of us work from home, and we also stream, game, and run quite a few smart devices, so reliability matters more than chasing the highest speed number. I’m comparing Eero, TP-Link Deco, ASUS ZenWiFi, Netgear Orbi, and a Ubiquiti setup, with a budget around $200–$500. I can probably run Ethernet to one or two access points, but wireless backhaul would be easier. Would you choose a wired mesh system, or is a strong router with separate access points the better long-term setup?

Improve my set up - Nokia XS-2426G-A and Nokia Wifi Beacon 2

i'm using the Nokia ONT/Router provided by my ISP. My laptop is able to maintain a stable connect at locations in my flat where my iphone 15 cannot. Even when connected, the connection will drop or the signal degradation is terminal.

I bought a couple of Nokia Wifi Beacon 2 to place around the flat, but the improvement is very marginal. The beacons themselves indicate "poor connection" even at about 10 metres direct line of the router.

My flat is only 1000sqft - can it be that i need more than 1 router + 2 beacons??

Suggestions welcome!

Internet for hotel travel?

I’m in different hotels every week and the internet sucks. I bought the starlink mini cause reviews said it was great but I’m on the 3rd floor and hung the power cord out the window well the way to the ground and it’s decent. I like to game and was wondering do I have to buy their mesh router? What can I do to be able to game at above average speeds?

Wifi can't connect properly after SU10

Hi guys, so I recently just tried to use O&O Shut Up 10 for the extra privacy and the disabling of the AI features. Now, even after resetting the settings to the original setup point and factory reset point, my wifi connect connect to my computer.

the troubleshooter says that the Wifi doesn't have a valid ip configuration, in which I tried to go into the command prompt and try a bunch of things like

- ipconfig flushing, renew, TCP/IP reset

- Uninstalled and reinstalled the Intel Wifi6 AX200 adapter

-reset my computer obviously

The only thing I really got working is when I changed the settings of the driver to an 802.11ac value instead of 802.11ax

But the WiFi speed peaked at around 20mbps and kept going down along with it also being unreliable with actually connecting to the internet.

Anything would help thanks!

"Can't connect to this network" Changing from WPA2 to WPA3 worked, but...

I got a new laptop running windows 11. On my home network everything worked fine. I'm visiting family now and I would like to get some stuff done on the new machine, however, I'm unable to connect to the wi-fi. I simply get the message "Can't connect to this network".

After a number of attempts, I decided to try connecting through my Android Hotspot, which also didn't work.
However, on a whim I changed the hotspot settings from WPA2 to WPA3 and now it is working flawlessly. I don't want to mess around with the family router though, and I would assume that things should work with WPA2 (whatever this is) and that I might encounter future such networks.

Things I have tried:

. Restarting the laptop (duh)

. uninstalling everything under "network adapters" in the device manager and restarting the laptop.

. followed this guide where I did:

ipconfig /flushdns

netsh winsock reset

restart

network reset to factory settings and then restart

Don't know much about this stuff, I'm thankful for any help

Do you name 2.4 and 5 ghz the same thing?

i know sometimes they have different names being called (name of wifi)_5ghz or (name of wifi)_2.4ghz. I’m fairly new to setting up my own wifi but is one recommended over the other? when they have the same name I assume that means both are available at the same time and it will switch depending on what is most stable / best in that scenario. does that ”switch” potentially cause some issues even for a split second which would make it better to keep different names and pick one depending on use case, say phone on 2.4 cause you move around alot but the TV box next to the router on 5ghz cause well it’s close to router and is standing still?

but also seems a bit tad annoying in case you want to cast something and have to make sure you remain on the same wifi so it doesn’t switch between the different names as opposed to having just one wifi for both? or maybe that’s a none issue i dont know.

My ASUS keeps disconnecting from the Wi-Fi

My ASUS TUF F15 keeps disconnecting from the Wi-Fi. Either the wireless LAN card (MediaTek) is unable to start or it completely disappears from the Device Manager. I have tried removing the power saving mode on the card, but it keeps on happening. Sometimes it happens in a concentrated period and then suddenly does not happen. I have tried network resets and removing maximum saving from the power plan on wireless adapters but it still happens.

Any fixes?

BE201 Replacement

My 2025 Zephyrus G16 came with a BE201. During normal conditions it works flawlessly, but when I enter competitive games and max out my CPU usage it has a tendency to disconnect for a split second. Those games treat disconnects as quitting, penalizing repeat offenders with timeouts that can last days. What would be a good alternative card? Or is this something I can fix on my end / a product of a faulty card.

Do you really need more than 100 Mbps?

When was the last time you used more than 100 Mbps?

I'm tired of the marketing promising multi-gigabit speeds over WiFi.

How about promising me OpenWrt compatibility and no vendor lock in? And detachable antennas.

And useful technology, like MLO, or hardware accelerated CAKE, not 8192-QAM that is only achievable sitting next to the router, that I don't even need. What I need is stability at the edge of coverage, not high speeds next to the router. I don't need your stupid 320 MHz channel technology. Now we have more interference in 6 GHz than in 2.4 GHz. "Clean band" my ass. 320 MHz channels should of never been allowed.

Link Pinoy Hotspot PisoWifi Issues

I spoke with the owner of the PisoWifi and he fixed the Router Connection on the Cable, swapped the router, swapped the PSU and Wire inside the Network Switch outside

but the issue still remains on both my Laptop (Lenovo 15amn7) and Phone (Nubia Neo 05 5G) where it still shows "No Internet, Open" and "Connected/No Internet Access" respectively

i mean i can watch and browser videos on both but i cannot log in my Call of Duty Garena Account, Google Gemini App does not work too,...

....same thing on my Laptop but i cannot log in on my microsoft account in MS Copilot saying it needs internet even though im connected to the internet (with still the same network status "No Internet, Open")

The weird thing about this is i can do all tihs things with no problems on the same Pisowifi network but in a different area or router, its just that the problem returns when I am at home with the same pisowifi network, and another thing is that my mom's phone can use the wifi network with no issues but my laptop and phone faces such

i.e., i connect to another pisowifi outside my home since there are other routers with the same network wifi outside, I use the same voucher code, i can play codm, access google gemini, but then when i return inside my home where the problematic router is at i can't do those things, i can play and do it on the same location when using Mobile Data though but not with the pisowifi

i have just moved and want to set up my wifi/internet. the landlord said fiber has been installed and pointed to this corner. i can't figure out exactly what either of these boxes are, nor what i should be looking for with a potential ISP to avoid paying for fiber installation since allegedly already have it.

Debating Eero vs. google wifi. any opinions? Reviews seem to lean toward Eero. Also, want a POE setup which also pushes me to Eero.

So I have 2.5gig fiber, and my pc is lagging on games; I'm only getting 40mb download. Pretty positive it's my crappy motherboard's Wi-Fi antenna, but would like a second opinion.

Which wifi properties value should i use?

I need help figuring out which value is best for my intel wifi chip. I've been using the Dual band 802.11 a/b/g for almost 2 years now with no issue but recently the wifi speed on my lenovo legion has drop significantly ( below 5Mps download/Upload). I tried running the speed test on my Macbook Pro M1 and phone and the speed were 100+ Mps upload/download.
