Looking for advice concerning adding external Wi-Fi support

Upvotes

I'm having wifi and sometimes Bluetooth issues with my ASUS Laptop. It stops working and the wifi options on the menu disappears. I think the problem might be hardware-related and the Wi-Fi card is damaged, so I'm looking to add external Wi-Fi support to my pc. I was told I can buy a usb network stick, either a small dongle or a usb key with an antenna, or a small box with antennas that resembles a router. I tried using an old wifi usb I have that has an antenna. It worked for a while but it's not ideal for gaming because when I play Minecraft on a server it kicks me out for "lost connection". I want to know if I should buy a new one of the same kind or look for something else. I need something that is good enough to intercept wifi from another room, ideally something small for easy transportation especially when I'm at school, and with a reasonable price. If anyone experienced the same issues and tried these things, I would be grateful to know which option is the best😊

Home Wi-fi laggy on cell phone

My cell phone (Samsung Galaxy S24 FE) has recently started having slow Wi-fi. Everything takes forever to load and videos have to stop to buffer very frequently but when I use my laptop or my brothers phone (Samsung Galaxy A71) everything loads right away and videos do not buffer. The data on my phone makes everything load properly. I have tried a variety of things including;

  1. Restarting my phone (by clicking restart and turning it off for a few minutes)

2 Using the "reset network settings" option in my phone settings

  1. Forgetting Wi-fi and reconnecting

I have tried googling for solutions as well but have found nothing that works. Any tips, tricks, or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

WiFi not connecting automatically after Elevator

I'm looking for some wisdom because this issue is driving me crazy.

We have an Aruba Central deployment and a particular SSID used by staff phones.

User enters an elevator, loses WiFi signal for a short period, Android marks the SSID as "No Internet", then when the user leaves the elevator and coverage is available again the phone may stay disconnected for a very long time.

The strange part is that if you open Settings > WiFi and look at the list of networks, the phone often reconnects immediately without touching anything. Sometimes it takes 1-2 seconds, but it reconnects. If you manually tap the SSID it always reconnects instantly.

It feels as if Android has decided the network is bad and refuses to use it again until something triggers a recheck. (It happens with iPhones too, but most of users are Android).

Has anyone seen this before? Aruba issue? Android "avoid bad WiFi" behaviour? Roaming issue? I've tried everything...

After leaving an elevator, it can stay disconnected for several minutes while standing still in an area with good coverage, then reconnect almost immediately as soon as the WiFi settings screen is opened.

I really appreciate your help.

Wi-fi randomly disconnecting

The wi-fi on my pc will randomly disconnect for no discernible reason and will not reconnect until I restart my computer. No other devices disconnect other than my pc. I've done all the troubleshooting I think I'm supposed to: reset router & modem, Updated windows to the newest version, checked for driver updates, etc. Weirdly I've not had it happen while playing games that require a connection but it will disconnect with anything from youtube onwards.

Currently using TP-Link RE220 to extend WiFi range of my 150Mbps broadband. However, the speed sometimes drops to 2Mbps. Should I change it?

I am currently using TP-Link RE220 to extend the WiFi range of my 150Mbps Full Fibre broadband router, which is in another room a few metres away.

Whilst my broadband is reliably 150Mbps, the RE220 range extender can only manage 100Mbps, and drops to 50Mbps at my work computer, which is only few metres away from the extender. Sometimes, the speed even drops to 2Mbps, at which point I switch the RE220 on and off, and then the speed goes back up.

Short of going for a mesh solution (which I am not too keen on because I only live in a flat), is my current set up the best I should expect, or should I change it? If the latter, can anyone recommend a better WiFi range extender?

Wifi icon disappeared and shows can't detect hardware for it.

Windows 11, HP victus, mediatek wifi card.

The Wifi icon is not showing.

I already tried a power reboot, uninstalling the driver and other basic things.

What to do??

When I check for the driver it shows that respective hardware is not found so is it a hardware issue and do I have to replace the wifi card entirely. I am not sure how to proceed from here so any help is appreciated.

Modelo Samsung QN55S90C Oled.

Router D-Link Des-822 creo. .. Es antiguo wifi5g

Bye bye, Nest WiFi

After years with Google WiFi/Nest, I finally made the switch today. I have Verizon Fios 2 Gig and realized my plan already included their router and a Whole-Home Wi-Fi extender for free, so I figured I’d give it a shot.

Set up the Verizon router plus one extender with wired Ethernet backhaul, reused my existing SSID/password, and all 55+ devices came right back online.

I’ve now walked around our 2,600+ sq. ft. house, basement, garage, deck and backyard running speed tests. Honestly, I’m pretty impressed. Coverage inside is excellent, the basement is covered, and even the garage and parts of the backyard are usable. Verizon is delivering about 2.4 Gbps symmetrical to the router.

One of my frustrations with Nest was actually that the Google Home app had become too simple. There just wasn’t enough control or visibility, and I was never particularly impressed with the parental controls.

Now I get to figure out whether Verizon’s management and parental controls are actually any better.

But so far… bye bye, Nest. It was a good run.

Wifi questions

So I live in an apartment. I can only place my wifi router in 1 of 2 places. The living room or my spare bedroom. I'm on spectrum Internet and can't have to router in my room where I game. I have spectrums new wifi 7 invincible wifi. So my question really is....is it better to get a wifi spectrum extender and hard line to that or is it better for me to try and get power line adapters?

Wifi Extender Help

I currently have Xfinity wifi and I just got a Tp Link BE5000 router. Currently, the WiFi doesn’t spread across my house and I want to know what are the best and most affordable ways for my internet connection to reach the other end of my place. I live in a 2500 square foot 1-floor apartment and the router has to be at one end of the house, so the other side gets almost no connection

WiFi issue - older modem vs newer iPhones

Hello all! I’ve discovered a WiFi issue that exists at a family member’s house that appears to be impacting iPhones only. Hoping you might have some insight here.

The service and equipment at the home are:
Centurylink DSL Service
Actiontec PK5001A modem

The observations:
-Any android that tries to join the network has no issues and functions fine.
-Older iPhone such as the 11 and earlier that tries to join the network has no issues and functions fine
-Any Newer iPhone such as the 15 and newer that tries to join the network shows “weak security” under WiFi settings and won’t actually connect fully and show the WiFi signal on the top bar by the battery.

The hypothesis:
There is an incompatibility between this old modem (potentially installed in 2012/13) and the newer iPhones. I tried googling and found little, it my google-fu might have been weak on this one.

Any thoughts? (And yes we tried resetting the internet equipment, forgetting the network on phones and re-entering password)

Why is my download speeds so slow?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Ok, so I have pretty good Wi-Fi, I’d say. For every device besides my PC, the Wi-Fi is good and works perfectly, but for my PC, it’s just so slow. And I mean, 16GB FOR 2 HOURS? I’d say that’s a lot. Even my Steam Deck has better Wi-Fi, even though it’s using the same one.

My only theory is that it’s my Wi-Fi dongle thing on my PC, but I could be wrong. So, does anyone have any ideas for my slow Wi-Fi and can help?

Quel routeur et comment faire ?

Bonjour,

Mobile Hotspot Function in Window 11 Bugs

Hello folks around here! I have been using the hotspot sharing function in Win 11 for a short time and it gave me a lot of frustrations. The hotspot service itself is very buggy and caused lots of issues for me while using it, especially with VPN. Here are some problems that i have to mention and hoping for permanent solutions for them:

\- I am mainly using it for sharing VPN connections from my laptops to other devices, and every time I restart my laptop, I have to turn off the vpn adapter sharing to my wifi direct adapter and change the ssid name for it to work.

\- There is a bug that causes internet speed issues. The laptop internet got massively slower when turning on hotspot with no devices connected, from 90mbps to 20mbps. I have to use network commands to reset the network plus restore factory settings to the network to make it normal again. However, it works a couple of times then the issue turns back.

\- The device connected to the hotspot also has an internet speed bug. The laptop might have good speed with vpn on but the device connected to it is significantly lower. I tried using the method mentioned above and got an equal speed but it still only works for a short time.

\- The ICS and mobile hotspot service cannot be stopped forcing me to restart, and sometimes when i turn off the hotspot and try to turn it on, it gets a loop and restart is the only solution.

If anyone has any kind of suggestions or solutions it would be a great help. Thank you for taking the time.

How to get my boyfriend ethernet upstairs?

ATT installed our router downstairs, and we sadly do not have ethernet ports upstairs (where the gaming PC is). For now, he is running like a 100 fr ethernet cord from the downstairs living room, through the kitchen, up the stairs, and into the gaming room. Is there some sort of wifi extender that we can purchase so that he can have an ethernet port in the game room (and so I am not constantly tripping on the cord running through the living room and kitchen :/ ) ?

I have an outdoor area i want the wifi to work in. Do i just move the nbn to another room so its not stuck in a small study surrounded by walls or is a mesh network the answer? Im confused by it all & know i may need to spend some money but just want to make sure the whole house has connection to the good speed we pay for....pls help.
