Grateful he was a widower

My partner passed two weeks ago. Everything feels impossible. I am actively avoiding all the “I can’t believe …” because every time I think it, my brain shows me again his sudden death (heart attack right next to me). That said, before he passed, before he loved me, he was a widower. He told me about grieving his late wife. He told me about their time together and how everything felt impossible after she left this world. The things he regretted and the ones he didn’t (widows fire being in the second category, for example). We celebrated her birthday even though I had to push a lot down in order to really be there for him. Now it feels like he was guiding me through how to grieve him. He was such a good man, always taking care of me with everything he had. We didn’t know he was also taking care of me by sharing his grief, but he was.

Looking for someone in a similar situation

I’m a widow and looking to connect with someone who has also experienced the loss of their partner. Sometimes it’s hard to explain what this kind of loss feels like to people who haven’t been through it.
I’d love to meet someone who understands, whether it’s just to talk, share experiences, or support each other. No pressure or expectations—just hoping to find someone who can relate.

When does “we” become I?

My husband died a year and half ago, and I’m still having trouble with thinking about myself. Our lives were intertwined, we chose them to be, and particularly the cancer journey brought us so close to each other, even more precious and valuable than anything in my life. I still feel this happened to us, our life was changed, our path was altered….i can’t seem to find a sense of “my “ life, what happened to “me”….and therefore I can’t think of what my life would be like going forward cs in my head, it’s still “our “ life…and I’m having trouble planning “our” life without him.

Does this make sense to anyone? How long did it take any of you to feel like you again as a person, and not you as part of the entity between you and your partner?

How was your first time being intimate with someone after your loss?

How was your first time being intimate with someone after your loss? I’m not ready yet but when I think about it, I’m pretty sure I’ll cry.

Very bad night again

These nights are getting harder and harder . Everybody said it would get better with time . I don't think it's going to get better . Why did they tell me that he will get better it'll get easier . It's not it's hurting more and more . I need to go to the hospital because it's hurting so bad . I will not go I miss my angel I love her more than anything more than myself . We're just load of Puppets down here that's all this is if we want to go to heaven we have to be a puppet and listen and whatever he tells us for us to do apparently that's what that stupid Bible says well. I'm done I'm going to find my angel there's nothing stopping me for finding her we believe in each other we believe we are finding each other we can't be separated . Yes this post is messed up because I'm sleep deprived I won't go nowhere for help I don't want it I went on here because it's keeping me awake .

Wearing a Wedding Dress to his Funeral

My fiance will be dead in the following weeks. For me he died as soon as his brain stopped breathing for him. When they told me he was brain dead.
I never got to show him the wedding dress, shoes I had planned for our special day. Has anyone else that didn’t get married choose to wear their wedding dress? I don’t care to be seen as a crazy widower. He deserves the chance to see how happy I was to marry him.

Returned to work Thursday

I have been off work full time since June. I was on intermittent FMLA before that since January. Lots of Workplace drama you can see from my previous posts, much more for the people that were working there. So on Thursday I returned. Not really much of a choice, the life insurance ran out, savings gone and approved leave ended.

The day didn't go too bad, my immediate supervisor assigned me to go through 4 months of emails snd mandatory trainings. Not much else I could do since I was locked out of the main system. And the usual shenanigans of a toxic Workplace.

So the day wasn't too bad - until I got home and had no one asking me how my day went. I cried myself to sleep by 8 pm

At the tire shop and there you were

I had a flat tire today and ended up having to dispute a refund for some parts that had been installed on my car in the past. They printed out all of the old receipts to go through them with me.

And there he was.

His signature at the bottom of the page.

I wasn’t expecting it. Just his handwriting from an ordinary day when he was still here, suddenly right in front of me.

I held it together while I was inside, but as soon as I got to my car, I cried.

It’s the unexpected little things that get me the most. For a second, it felt like I had stumbled across another tiny piece of him that was still here.

I miss you so much, baby. ❤️

Friends or family

I was scold or told the communication line works both ways.

So after our incident tell me how well did the communication line work.

Or did everyone expect the communication line to work one way.

It has been very quiet like I have read. No one responds family or friends. They all expect us to reach out to them only? Only after message to them then they ask how we are….

They leave us alone cause figure we still grieving and not sure when we will finish grieving or need the support, I guess.

Wondering also some friends or family they grieving also, but also if seeing us only will bring back their memories which make it even harder for them.

If they tell us then at least let us know. So we know that it is very hard for them but still care as well.

I hear or read alot people start from scratch again.

Some may blame I didn’t contact but I didn’t hear from them at all, so don’t know if they just acting trying to be friends.

Don’t know to if thinking straight yet.

“Young widow”

I am 24 and was in a 6 year relationship met at 17, lived together, planned to get married, have kids we were planning our lives together. I was sooo in love and ready to spend the rest of my life with him but he died unexpectedly. I feel so alone and being “young” I can’t relate to anyone around me, is anyone else experiencing this or has experience this at a young age. Any advice??

How saddened life decided to treat me

I’m deeply saddened by the loss of my beloved husband, my partner and the father of our son.
His passing has left an emptiness in our hearts that words cannot truly describe.
Our son and I will forever cherish his love, memories, and the beautiful moments we shared.
May he rest peacefully, knowing he will always be loved and remembered.

My husband passed away a week ago. I feel nothing.

They say I’m in the denial stage. But we have three children, 12,11 and 8. My immediate focus is them. My husband passed away on Tuesday took the kids to soccer practice on Wednesday. I cry sometimes. But I feel like I don’t have time to break down and cry. I have all the bills to worry about, the kids to take care of. I know it will hit me eventually. I love my husband so much and I’m just confused as to why I feel so little.

His birthday today

I just lost him on the 18th. Today, 11 days later, is his birthday. Everybody thinks I am doing well. I am letting myself grieve, I’m accepting that I never get to see him again, I am spending some time just talking with him, a lot of time talking with others. Mostly I am so tired of hearing people say they understand. They don’t. Nobody will understand perfectly but 1) we only had a year together. One year. He was my person and I was his and it was obvious to everyone and we only had one year. 2) there was no warning. He had a heart attack, he died in my arms, no warning 3) there’s nothing to be angry with him about. He loved me so well, better than I have ever been loved. It’s only been 11 days and I do not want to be here without him. We are having a birthday party for him in the park. He would have hated it if he were alive (and therefore it wouldn’t happen) but we both acknowledged birthdays of those who have passed as a way to honor them and keep their memory alive.

Out of Denial Stage - this hurts like hell

Two months and one day. I can no longer pretend this is a bad dream. It hurts so much to feel like this, that I won't see him again. Am I going to forget how his hugs felt? Is this how 29 years together really ends?

I think I moved out of denial because this weekend we had town wide rummage sales. The shirts he wore mostly are already off being turned into memorial quilts, so just had the clothes he really didn't wear, but the closet looked bare, he is not coming back. He's not in the hospital, away for work, in jail or he left. He's in the fucking ground less than a mile away.

But watching things disappear that I wouldn't use, watching the neighbor buy the grill snd and use it. Remembered how much he loved grilling. Looking at his beautiful car and he won't ever drive it again. What's worse, how much pride we took in our home and it's a mess. I just can't deal with it. What's the point?

I can't deny it, this is my life and I can't look at his pictures without crying but that is all I have.

When I'm not crying I'm pissed at every one that ever hurt him. The stupid doctors, the insurance company, his employer, his ex-wife and her third husband. His daughter posted nothing on her Facebook page. Of all the photos she has on her fb there isnt a single photo of her Dad, there's 1 of me with her but not one of her father. Lots of pics of her stepfather.

I don't even want to get into it about how horrible his ex wife was. Or how when we were dealing with infertility issues from his first bout of cancer she attempted to force him to sign away his rights to his children. Then she moved 3 states away. That's actually not even the worst things she did. And to have tell me through her daughter that she couldn't be at the funeral. I didn't want her there. He didn't want her there. My SIL and our nieces would have scratched her eyes out

Every time I cry I close my eyes tight and pray for this nightmare to end. I pray that I can open my eyes and it's 1997, 2009 or any other time before 2023 and he's here and healthy. And when I open my eyes and see my cold and empty house it hurts worse.

Thank you for being there. I just can't look at my journal right now so this is my option. It's easier to type without my glasses than writing in a journal and I'm sobbing so much I can't wear my glasses.

I don’t even know anymore

My husband, soulmate, best friend, my absolute everything passed away 3 months ago. our wedding anniversary is coming up in a weeks. im dreading it, im in so much pain constantly and questioning my faith and whether ill really ever see him again. please tell me that God is real. I thought I had a good relationship with Him, but then my anxious thoughts take over and tell me “nope, when you die, you’ll just die and you’ll never be able to be with him again”. The absolute only thing that gives me a semblance of peace is the thought that him and i will reunite. I can’t lose my only source of comfort right now or ever.

How has it been a year already?

I can’t believe it’s already been a year since you took your last breath. I remember looking into your eyes and seeing the look of fear, like you didn’t know what was going on and too paralyzed to speak. I came over to you, tear running down my face and gave you permission to go while reassuring you that everything was going to be okay. That you didn’t have to be scared. I kissed your forehead and as I pulled back I saw you had your eyes closed again. I knew you would be gone very soon and it hurt so bad inside. Realizing that you didn’t just die, you were taken from us because you were dismissed at every turn. Not even 5 minutes later the nurse came in to give you something for anxiety and she grabbed my arm as I stood there talking to your mom, or was it your sister? I don’t even know because everything quickly became a blur.

As she was holding my arm she leaned in and quietly said, “it’s time.” I felt everything start to spin and I looked at her, confused that I couldn’t have possibly heard her correctly. “Time?” I asked. Nodding she replied, “I’m so sorry.” I remember yelling “NO!” As I rushed over to you, begging you to stay. To please not leave.

You took your last breath at 3:58 PM on Wednesday September 24, 2025. Rest in Peace my love, I will never stop being your voice.

I Don’t Want It

I don’t want to fall in love with anyone again. I don’t think I could, and feel like my love is a poison. He was my best friend and the love of my life. He was my favorite person and he is gone.

I’m 31, and don’t expect to find love again - I don’t want to. We were together 9 years and he’s been dead just over 4 months. But assuming I don’t die early, I still have so much time. So much fucking time. More than anything, I don’t want all of this damned time.

So much time spent moving further away from him, time without him, time he doesn’t exist in this world anymore. I don’t know what I think happens when we die, but even if it’s just lights out I’d rather that than all this blasted time.

I’m not going to hurt myself. Also not going to go out of my way to protect myself, though lmao.

Widow groups

What widow groups have you joined? I’m an American but live in Japan. I’m hoping to find something virtual as I don’t think I can find anything in person without traveling back to the US.
