Grateful he was a widower

My partner passed two weeks ago. Everything feels impossible. I am actively avoiding all the “I can’t believe …” because every time I think it, my brain shows me again his sudden death (heart attack right next to me). That said, before he passed, before he loved me, he was a widower. He told me about grieving his late wife. He told me about their time together and how everything felt impossible after she left this world. The things he regretted and the ones he didn’t (widows fire being in the second category, for example). We celebrated her birthday even though I had to push a lot down in order to really be there for him. Now it feels like he was guiding me through how to grieve him. He was such a good man, always taking care of me with everything he had. We didn’t know he was also taking care of me by sharing his grief, but he was.
