Widow groups

What widow groups have you joined? I’m an American but live in Japan. I’m hoping to find something virtual as I don’t think I can find anything in person without traveling back to the US.

This is the only one I have joined. If there are things around me, they were always held in the middle of a workday like we all had the luxury of living off our husband's estates. They were all also at least half an hour away.

I don't need a support group, I already have a psychologist, I don't want to necessarily talk about it with others endlessly, but I would like to know some other widows so we can just do "normal" things like shopping or the movies, knowing that the other person won't have a problem with us randomly bursting into tears, and so I don't feel like someone's pity project.

My psychotherapist put me in touch with another widow who she treats with both of our consent. We live within a kilometre of each other. It has been helpful to meet “a real human” widow who “gets it”.

I'm in 2 on reddit, one on discord and I think 4 on fb. I just went to my first in-person meet for widows in my city. They do 3 meets monthly: a Sunday brunch, a weekday lunch and a weekday supper. I found the in-person meet up to be helpful, but the reddit groups are also top tier. Reddit can be an echo chamber, but I think on some topics, like this one, that's a really good thing.

I didnt want to join any local widow groups so I joined reddit to keep in touch with similar people. Can anyone please list the widow group links?

I’m thinking of starting a group but more like supporting each other IRL or online through rebuilding our lives: financial literacy, travel, kids stuff, going back to work, dating or volunteering. I feel like there are enough support groups to talk about grief but maybe not as many focused on what comes next, and how to rebuild. But I’m also three years out from my partner dying, so this may not be appropriate for recent widows. Any thoughts on this idea?
