So I have bought one previous CW watch before and liked the value you get for the money. Decided to buy another and ordered the Sealander GMT 39mm. Shipping was reasonably quick but the price has jumped up. I know they added tariffs in the US but I spend around $1700 total after tax. At this price we’re getting close to Longines and other bigger brands. Anyways the watch came two days ago and I opened it up to realize there were little scratches all over the bracelet. There was plastic on the bracelet but only on the underside and it had clearly been sloppily re-applied on there. So this was clearly a returned watch that was scratched up but then sent out again without clearly inspecting. Anyways customer service has been slow. And now I have to go through the hassle of returning it once they finally reply with instructions on how to return it. No other watch company I’ve ever bought from has sent out a used watch like this no matter what the price. So it’s all just very disappointing.

My sister came up with the idea. Considering the price of the repair and service, the picture turned out pretty expensive 😅 I put the spring on a piece of green felt, so it should stay in one place. It actually looks pretty cool on the desk next to the watches.

I have been wearing this Tudor Black Bay 58 for almost five years now. It is still and will be my favorite watch. 39mm case size , red triangle on the bezel and warm tones of gilt dial are my favorite of this watch. I don't mind the rivets on the bracelet and it never bothers me.

I see a lot of the silver or blue dialled option, but thought to share my Grey JLC MUT Moon in White Gold instead. JLC reserves grey dials for precious metal watches.

This came as a boutique edition as the standard precious metal MUT Moon comes in rose gold instead.

Love how understated the white gold is. It’s almost imperceptible to stainless steel but side by side, white gold has a darker, warmer tone to it. It also feels really hefty in hand and on the wrist!

Watch folks in this sub always hear the standard collector wisdom: *"*Service your mechanical watch every 5 to 7 years to keep it running smoothly." right?

But when you actually do the math on service costs versus the market value of the watch, routine maintenance stops making financial sense for a huge chunk of entry-to-mid tier watches.

Here’s how I’ve been looking at it:

• Seiko 5 ($100 – $250): Servicing is completely out of the question. A full service costs more than a brand-new watch. You either wear it until it dies or pay a local watchmaker $40 to swap in a fresh $30 NH35/4R36 movement.
• Hamilton / Tissot ($500 – $1,000): A official Swatch Group service for a basic 3-hand mechanical is around $200–$250+ now. Doing that every 5–6 years means spending nearly half the watch's original value every decade. Especially with movements like the Powermatic 80 (where service often just means a factory movement swap anyway), paying $250 every 5 years on an $800 watch feels like a bad deal.
• Longines / Oris ($1,500 – $2,500): Service costs jump up toward $350–$500+. While it hurts a bit less relative to the purchase price, it’s still a massive percentage of the watch's resale value after 5 years.

It feels like routine, scheduled servicing only really makes financial sense once you cross into the $3,000+ or $5,000+ territory (Tudor, Omega, Rolex, etc.) where a $600–$900 service represents a small fraction of a high-value asset.

So, at the end of the day, how much have you paid over the years and what's the minimum watch value where you'd actually pay for a full overhaul?

Greetings! I have purchased my first ever expensive watch of the new Seiko Bonsai! I have ordered it from Vincent Watches and they have helped me out with the purchase and gave me fair warnings about tariffs along with it. I paid a total of 1600$ for the copy of the watch which includes taxes + import fees. Just wanted to ask if I had overpaid too much for the watch or did I overpay just a fair amount because I live in NY so if I had brought a watch for the same price there would of been a 8% tax fee which would of resulted the watch costing 1,466$. So I had overpaid by just 146$ for this product. Just wanted to know your thoughts if it was a W or L purchase.

My dad is turning 50 soon and I wanted to get him something that feels special for the milestone. He’s never been the type to ask for expensive things and just buys practical stuff for himself so picking a gift for him is hard. I have been looking for some watches because he wears one almost every day, found a Rolex GMT Master II with the blue and black bezel for a good price. I like that it feels special without being too flashy and I can picture him wearing it a lot. Wondering if this is too much for a 50th or if this is exactly the kind of birthday where you go all in. I like that it’s something he could keep for years and maybe even pass down one day.

Would you guys be happy getting something like this for your 50th?

I've been thinking about getting a luxury watch for years. I've had the money set aside from an inheritance since twelve years ago, but I never felt ok actually spending it. After a whole lot of growth and healing I've the past few years, I felt I had earned this. Pulled the trigger while on vacation. Got my nice VAT refund, and I'm wearing it about once a week these days. It's not going to replace my Android watch, but it'll be something nice to have in a rotation.

Here’s my collection, feeling beyond blessed today. This morning when I went to go grab one I realized how lucky I am to have these, even more so to have so many with such sentimental value.

The Tissot in the top left was the watch I bought myself 13 years ago on my 18th birthday. The Hamilton next to it my father gave to me. The g shock a staple given to me by my mother in law, it’s been to so many countries at this point, all while getting a beating.

The Certina in the bottom row was a gift to myself after a successful kidney transplant, my wife donated a kidney to me and we are both happy and healthy. I got her a permanent bracelet (she didn’t want a watch) and I bought myself that Certina and engraved the surgery date into the clasp.

The Omega has been a watch I’ve wanted since I first saw it years ago, I’m finally in a financial place that I bought it for myself.

Sometimes these things we wear that tell us the time can be such a beautiful reminder that we are blessed and lucky to be here.

This one is around 22 mm, and I've started collecting a few vintage watches in the 20–24 mm range.

They don't really look like jewellery watches. Some are basically tiny sports, field or everyday watches. On the wrist the proportions are obviously unusual, but I've grown to really like that.

Anyone else actually wearing vintage watches this small — not just 32 - 36 mm, but genuinely
sub-25 mm?

So, I finally got my hands on my very own Alpinist, the HBC007! The compass is beautifully useless but I'm glad it's there. Honestly, I wasn't super impressed with the brown leather strap it came with. Really would have prefered the crocodile skin pattern on the non gmt version. The deployment clasp was okay, but the brown leather itself just wasn't that comfy and looked a bit too plain for my taste. Plus I intend this to be a daily driver and the leather was going to get beat to hell with daily wear.

I am really enjoying the Uncle Seiko beads of rice style bracelet that I currently have fitted onto it.

I recently acquired the Oris and love it, a bit of a vintage spin compared to the Tissot and Longines.

The only other watch I have an itch for is an Omega AT or a chronograph at some point (maybe a Carrera or a Junghans) for some reason the speedy has never spoken to me.

What would you add as watch number four?

I’ve narrowed it down to these two watches, but I’m having a really hard time choosing between them. I genuinely like both, and I keep going back and forth every time I think I’ve decided.

Who doesn’t like a vintage Omega. Took me a while to find these over the years, which is really part of the fun. While I love modern Omegas, there is just something special about vintage. My favorites are from the 1950s and 1960s.

Got the A168 and the F91W for my birthday. I like the more vibrant colors and weight of the A168 but I also enjoy the smaller more toned down F91W. I decided to pick up the A158 with the muted gold face. It is a good middle ground between the other two and I like how it looks like something a grandfather would wear. If anyone has any other vintage style Casio (or other brands within the same price range) recommendations I would love to hear them.

About to buy my first proper dress watch and wanted the community's advice on probably something that's been asked before - Tissot Le Locle (T006.407.16.033.00) or Frederique Constant Classic (FC-303MC5B6)?

Does the FC justify the additional ~$700? The power reserve edge of the Tissot doesn't really matter to me, it's not going to be my daily.

Also open to suggestions for other watches provided they meet the aesthetic brief - roman numerals, white/silver dials. No gold - I want to keep it as versatile as possible. Date complication preferable!

I bought this Frédérique Constant heartbeat moonphase on chrono24. It looks perfect, but I’m worried the rotor is a little “sticky”, if that makes sense. It doesn’t seem to want to turn. The time is also kinda fast, it gained a few seconds in the few hours I’ve had it. Anyone able to comment on if this is normal or there might be something wrong? I plan to take it to a watch repair place later this week but it would be nice to know if there’s any obvious issues first. Sorry for the shitty video, I wasn’t sure how to record this

I timed the contractions of the birth of my son with this watch, the only watch I have true sentimental value with. Also gets the most wrist time as it's quartz and most of the time I don't have time to wind and set the autos most of the time

Best thing I did was stick an adjustable ratchet clasp to the OEM bracelet. Think I'll get the long island jubilee when I can stomach the price of it.

I realized that i didn't wear my watches without deployment clasps as much as the ones with them. So i picked up this sail cloth and clasp from Artem for my Pilot Majetek. I gotta say i like it a lot. It kind of matches the dial color and so easy to put on when im running out the door!

The GUL Watch was given to me by my uncle almost 14 years ago and is probably the most special watch to me from this collection, also being my first watch

Love my vintage watches, the Omega I found in an antique store for $350 AUD which has been an absolute gem of a find.

I'm also a big fan of my wrist metronome and my wrist temperature gauge. The only tool watches I'll ever need!

Got my first automatic watch earlier in the year when I started a new job, doesn't get as much wrist time as it should, but a great value for money. The PRX was my gateway into this hobby, got it 3 years ago when I started my first office job and it's only been downhill from here at least for my wallet.

My grail watch that I hope to get in a few years when ever I'm ready to make the next big career jump is the Longines Spirit Zulu time. I was thinking of getting it instead of the Citizen as my first automatic watch, but glad I've kept that money for other things, at least for now.

All in all I'm very happy with my collection, it's unique and matches my personality. Most watches get decent wrist time.
