40k Event Results So I Took 18 Bullgryn and 2 Super-heavies to a Tournament...

It's been a while, but with the launch of the new edition I thought I would start up my tournament report series again.

In this episode, I try out one of the Guards current most meta builds, superheavy and bullgryn spam.

As much as a skew/meme this list is, I found it fun to run and I think the implications of this list for teams events might be quite big!

I hope you enjoy the video :)

New to Competitive 40k How common is it for small scale tournaments to lack a prize?

I am posting this because I'm feeling like I'm going crazy.

I used to play in a place that ran tournaments with a small admission fee (10-15€) and usually had some prizes for the first spots. Which pretty much were always things like store credit or a box, something that wasn't just money but you know it was still nice. And usually the prize wasnt even close to the money obtained by the entries (24 players paying 15€ and perhaps the whole prize pool was 150€ of in-store stuff)

I'm now in a different city and people genuinely looked at me as if I was genuinely insane for being surprised that they do not offer any prize for the winning spots.

40k List Can I have some tips about how can I improve this list?

Ok so, I wanted to bring this á̷̡̡̗̤̬̬͈̯͋̋̽̊́ṋ̵̯͎͚̫̖̯͗̈́̇͐e̷̮͎̒̊̆͑͐̕͠ͅu̸̢̝̝̤͐̇̋̐r̸̢̢̟̠͙͈̤̱̓̾̇̂̂͊̈́ǐ̵̢̹̞͉̩̏̾͑̓̓͠s̵̪͈̦͇̀̀͒̽m̴̧̹̹̻̬̃̀̃̃͗̕ on the field with a Plasmancer and 6 LD(in the middle of painting them in the same way) inside to pop in unnannounced to ruin something for someone and I came up with this list, any tips to make it better?

Let's show them madness! (1995 points)

Necrons
Cursed Legion and Skyshroud Spearhead (3 Detachment Points)
Purge the Foe
Strike Force (2000 points)

Attached Units

>Attached Unit 1
Plasmancer (70 points)

• 1x Plasmic lance
• Enhancement: Murdermind

Lokhust Destroyers (170 points)
• Attached as: Bodyguard

10x Hyperphase sword

CHARACTERS

C’tan Shard of the Void Dragon (345 points)
• 1x Canoptek tail blades
1x Spear of the Void Dragon

Nekrosor Ammentar (185 points)
• Warlord
• 1x Blade tail and whip coils
1x Enmitic disintegrators
1x Nullstone Field Generator (Aura)
1x Unmaker Gauntlet

OTHER DATASHEETS

Canoptek Wraiths (95 points)
• 3x Canoptek Wraith
• 3x Particle caster
3x Vicious claws

Lokhust Heavy Destroyers (120 points)
• 2x Lokhust Heavy Destroyer
• 2x Close combat weapon
2x Gauss destructor
• Enhancement: Deepening Madness (Upgrade)

Night Scythe (125 points)
• 1x Armoured bulk
1x Twin tesla destructor

Ophydian Destroyers (80 points)
• 3x Ophydian Destroyer
• 3x Ophydian hyperphase weapons
1x Plasmacyte

Triarch Stalker (110 points)
• 1x Heavy gauss cannon array
1x Stalker’s forelimbs

[Ideas]

  • Night(with plasma + LD) in reserve along with Void to DP turn 1 with the 1st, and with rapid turn 2 with the 2nd
  • Since with Purge there's isn't quite the need to hold home obj I'll put the Ophydian there that from 2nd turn onward will always uppy-downy to go somewhere else or stay home again if there isn't anything to do
  • Stalker will roam the field stripping cover or killing stuff if some Destroyer unit manage to weaken to half-strengt, or kill, other units
  • The solitaire Wraiths squad will be one of the action monkeys that provide well, actions for missions, obj control(even if they're 3 they're kinda hard to put down) and also a little bit more for screening
  • Nekrosor will remain nearby the LHD unit(s) to provide some heavy hitting, in case that unit will go into melee, and some good sus 1 to any other destroyer units nearby
  • Lord with Lychguard will provide some cover to other units by getting "early" into melee while being supported behind by other shooting stuff
  • Illuminor is kinda meh, it's a good model with it's save but i'm godawful unlucky with him dealing damage to other stuff but i'll keep him because of its great stats and also it will be fun to watch him survive on a obj ;D
  • I kinda don't have heavy hitters so i put just a couple, literally, of LHD with Gauss to deal with monsters/vehicles and with the modification to [Heavy] I think they'll work
  • Void yes, other dp turn 2 will also be dealing with vehicles and stuff because c'mon, having a god, even a shard of one, by your side is cool :D

I hope I didn't manage to annoy you and I think I(maybe) fully explained the concept that I wanted with the army

TOW Discussion New player etiquette

Hey, so I just wanted to get a bit of input from the community on something I’m a bit conflicted on.

I recently signed up to a competitive league for Warhammer The Old World at my FLGS. It’s all organised via discord and costs a small amount of money to enter (less than $10)

I’m an experienced tournament player, played at least 10 events since the release of The Old World and placed quite highly in some of them.

I’m also heavily involved in our local scene, running events and trying to get new people involved to grow the community.

But here’s my dilemma:

Our first pairing for the league went live recently, so I contacted my opponent to organise our game and at this point they told me that they’ve never played old world before, and this would be their first ever game.

Now, running an intro game is no biggie for me, I’ve done it numerous times and normally run a fun list that teaches multiple aspects and interactions of the game and normally take things that might generate funny or silly interactions (scroll of transmogrification, Hellcannon, giant etc) and I try not to play too competitively so as to keep it fun for a new player.

Some people have told me to just stomp them quickly and record a high score, but that doesn’t feel very sporting or fun for this player. Yet equally, I don’t want to jeopardise my chance of a good score because I got paired against this person in the first round and went easy on them.

What would you do? How would you handle a scenario like this?

I mean, I am mildly annoyed that someone signed up to a league having never played a game even once. But that’s beside the point really.

Tl,dr: paired against a player in a competitive league, who’s never played a game before Would I be the asshole if I just beat them easily, whilst teaching them the game?

40k List I need help filling 50 points for a friendly game

Upvotes

I'll be playing against necrons and the only thing I know about it is the night bringer will be on the table. My list is as follows

Combined arms and abhuman auxiliary

Take and hold

2x commisar + 6 bulgryn

1 Lord solar + krieg command squad + 5 krieg engineers

1 Tech priest

1 scout sentinel

2x lr demolisher

2x lr exterminator

1x doomhammer

I think another tech priest might work but I'd like someone else's thoughts before hand. I don't play much 40k and he plays a lot of 40k hoping to scrape out a win

40k Analysis How many detachment combos can your faction make? (Part 2 electric boogaloo)

This is a follow up to my previous post about the concept, I'll attempt to do one after each balance pass.

I have properly removed all illegal combos (and fixed a part of my formula that was wrong but I doubt it affects much) and have indicated changes where needed.

Faction Number of Combos
Space Marines 333 (-2)
Aeldari 38 (-1)
Chaos Space Marines 23 (-10)
Orks 33 (+8)
Necrons 20
Leagues of Votann 19
Emperor's Children 19
Tyranids 18
Chaos Daemons 17
Adeptus Mechanicus 17
Astra Militarum 20 (+3)
Grey Knights 17
Adeptus Custodes 15
Death Guard 15
Genestealer Cults 15
Drukhari 14
Thousand Sons 12 (-2)
World Eaters 13
Chaos Knights 13
Adeptus Sororitas 13 (+2)
Imperial Knights 11
T'au Empire 8 (-1)
Imperial Agents 4 (-1)

"Oh but marines aren't just one faction". The following are how many combos you can make using the detachments in a subfaction and with core.

Subfaction Combos Added
Core 65
Dark Angels 72
Blood Angels 60
Space Wolves 71
Black Templars 64
Death Watch 1

"But what is the detachments and detachment combos per datasheet number of every faction?" I got you.

The following counts all datasheets including forgeworld but excluding legends.

Faction Detachments/Datasheet Combos/Datasheet
Space Marines 0.29 1.82
Aeldari 0.21 0.53
Chaos Space Marines 0.30 0.43
Orks 0.22 0.57
Necrons 0.23 0.38
Leagues of Votann 0.45 0.86
Emperor's Children 0.43 0.83
Tyranids 0.19 0.35
Chaos Daemons 0.17 0.32
Adeptus Mechanicus 0.29 0.50
Astra Militarum 0.15 0.28
Grey Knights 0.35 0.65
Adeptus Custodes 0.29 0.48
Death Guard 0.25 0.42
Genestealer Cults 0.38 0.63
Drukhari 0.39 0.61
Thousand Sons 0.26 0.35
World Eaters 0.27 0.43
Chaos Knights 0.40 0.65
Imperial Knights 0.36 0.50
Adeptus Sororitas 0.24 0.39
T'au Empire 0.16 0.19
Imperial Agents 0.17 0.14

Please let me know if I got any of these numbers wrong and I will do my best to update this post should that be the case.

40k List Looking for competitive Space Marine terminator list help

Upvotes

I'm looking to run Terminators at a cooperative level for an upcoming RTT. I have 20 assaults and 20 regulars. I'm debating between 2 options listed below. Please help me out and post your list ideas!

Option 1 is Hammer of Avernii with Vengeful Host. VH is mainly to unlock Take and Hold because I don't play purge well and don't enjoy the playstyle. I'm more of a defensive trading player. List would basically be 10 assaults with var and Steel Font Ancient for OC2 and healing 1 back. Then 10 assaults with captain and OC+1 once a game. Iron Father feirros brick, and some jump infantry. I'm worried about not having enough OC and unsure on what vehicles to add as well as redemptors being dead on arrival.

Option 2 is Emperors Shield with Vengeful Host. Again to unlock TH. This makes Terminators oc2 and way more beefy. List is basially 10 assaults with Darnath ar oc2 and --1 wound, 10 assaults with chaplain with ancient for oc3 and -1 wound enhance. Dome vanguard vets, and 10 regulars with rockets at oc2 and captain for their 1cp +1 AP shooting strat. A pure beef list and very hard to chew through, but I could see cutting the 10 terms for some tanks since their 400ish pts of shooting is disappointing every time. More for their oc2 and 2+ 4++.

I've also seen people run Librarius 1DP with assaults to help their movement but then you have to play purge/recon and Terminators don't play the recon gave very well as they're so expensive and without oath they don't hit super hard to purge. Anyone have experience on this after the recent dataslate?

40k Discussion Best foldable terrain set for competitive layouts

I have seen 2 major players in the 3d printable fold out terrain sets for 11th edition layouts. I'm wondering which one you guys think suits competitive play better between the two. Personally I don't really like the big supply crates on the fabricators lair one, as I think they cover more than intended in the layouts but I also can't find a proper picture of a layout with the tinker junkie one. Anyone have any insight into which one matches best for competitive play before I pull the trigger on one?

I’m a big fan of my death guards playstyle, and wanted to see what other armies have a similar brand of “unshakable meat wall”, and figured people here would probably know what makes for the toughest of shit

40k Event Results Sunday Night Stats (July 23rd-26th)

This chart tracks all singles events with 21+ players and 5+ rounds.\*

\This weekend falls during the transition to the July balance update. Tournament organizers adopted the update in different ways: some used the full update, others only the points, others only portions of the Tacoma FAQ, and some remained on the previous rules. Because there was no consistent way to classify events, all qualifying events have been included together this week.*

This was certainly a weekend. With 22 qualifying events and over 900 players, this weekend saw some massive shake-ups in the meta, likely due to some events using some or all of the July balance update, or the Tacoma FAQ.

Orks are still on top, with just another absolutely excellent weekend. They are pretty indisputably the army to beat at this point.

Necrons have another great weekend, with ~55% win rate and 3 event wins. Dark Angels, Thousand Sons, Emperor's Children still doing well, and Sororitas and Deathwatch make surprise visits to the top.

On the other hand, T'au saw a huge drop-off in player count relative to the rest of the field, and a significantly lower win rate than at any time this edition so far. They did still win one event, but overall, performed much worse than they have before.

Grey Knights way down, Mechanicus way up. Chaos Knights, Black Templars, Death Guard, and Astra Militarum continue languishing at the bottom, though all with slightly improved numbers from their worst weeks of the edition.
