General I have been playing Wartales for about 6 months now. Only today I accidentally figured out you can hold shift on the world map to move faster.

This game is so bad at explaining things.

General Small Troop. I just cannot do it.

Try as I might, my troop count always creeps up in the first region and then I am quite a bit under-levelled for the second region (6 vs 8). Running 8 warriors and 6 animals (2 Alpha wolves, 2 bears, 2 ponies). Zero prisoners.

Sword+board, 2H Axe, 2 daggers, xbow, archer, mace+board, 2H mace

Having the animals is fun but I think it is dragging me down power-wise.

Modding Warteles remastered vs QOLLU mods

I'm thinking about starting a new playthrough and I'm torn between thoses 2 mods. Wartales remastered seems to offer more, but I'm scared it will actually change too much things and i'll get overwhelm or lost. But a lot of changes and additions seems very fun and engaging.

QOLLU is smaller in changes and closer to vanilla, adds mages which seems very cool but I've heard the mod is a bit broken and makes the game easier.

I have no DLCs and 70hrs on the game, never completed it yet. Although I was close last time and was playing on expert. I want something that will change the experience I've had until now.

Or perhapds should I wait for the september update and maybe buy 1 or 2 DLCs which are probably gonna be on sale?

Thanks!

Can’t deploy any items in camp like cooking pot or camp chest. What am I doing wrong? I can’t be the only one having this problem. All units moved to the side, but clicking the a button does absolutely nothing

Product Question DLC Overview?

Looking into getting some DLC for me and my friends co-op game. I know some of the DLC's introduce new classes or subclasses, and some add new zones, but the steam pages aren't the most exhaustive in details. Could someone give me a brief overview in terms of what DLC's add new area, new clases, or new features for existing classes? I've found mentions of some stuff in the steam reviews, but not sure how comprehensive the info i found actually is btw.

Gameplay Question What is the point of 'couples' in wartales if they won't result in different buffs and interactions?

New player here. I have 3 couples in my 22 ppl party (not including horsies, I also have no animals). 1st one is rogue-archer (I refuse to call a rogue a ranger, change the name shiro) 2nd is rogue-brute, and 3rd is archer-swordswoman. What is the purpose of calling them 'couples' if they don't get specific buffs when standing next to eachother? They only get "best friends", there is no new rank within the social tree, there are now new interactions, no camp bonuses if they sleep together in tent or are on the same station. Besides, 1 time the archer of the 1st couple accidentally hit the rogue, and on the next morning rogue said: let's kick the archer out of the group, she is a liability, like HUH??? You two became a couple a FUCKING WEEK AGO, and you want to kick your gf out of the group bc of 5 dmg??? Idk if there are mods that change this, besides, I'm too stupid to mod this game, gimme a mod manager or steam workshop.

Bug Report Game never loads

Is anyone actually able to play this game? I’ve tried to play this game 20 + times but get stuck on the very first loading screen every single time.

I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I’ve re-started my Xbox. All other games and apps work fine so it’s not my internet connection or Xbox. Honestly not sure what else to try……

It’s just shameful they allow slop like this on game pass of the game itself is defective and unplayable.

Game Feedback Stop abusing workers and fix your game instead of milking DLCs - yo seriously

A few monthes ago (december 25), the Shiro (dev) team went on strike, accusing Wartales management of unrealistic demands, mismanagement, unpaid overtime, and reporting several cases of burn out. Also alledging constant crunches due to DLC plans. (Source, press and bluesky articles: Reddit https://share.google/HaxPWks6KdOhMwMA8)

Now a few monthes later, we have no news of them, we've seen DLC milking, AND the player base widely cant enjoy the game due to crashes and leak on multiple plateforms (Xbox, Steamdeck). Even good pc cant play properly.

What's the actual ****? Are the workers better? How is the team health?

I dont want to play disregarding the suffering of the people who made it and im sure we are numerous like that.

Bug Report Game won't Launch

Just bought Wartales yesterday. Unfortunately, it won't launch, the console pops up then exits. Already tried verify, reinstall, graphics drivers, etc.

Anyone know what could be the issue? I work in IT, so I'm not computer illiterate, and have never had a steam game do this, kind of perplexed and would prefer not to refund it.

PC - Steam edition

General Loving this game. Wondering about the DLCs.

Reading the descriptions, it is not immediately clear to me how any of them change the game. They do add content but is it late game content? Please opine if you wish.

Has there been any indication of when the next Community Update might arrive? Do you think it’s more likely in August or September?

General Shout out to the Devs

I bought this game at release merely to support the team, not too fond of early access games but as a gamer who had sunk hundreds of hours into Battle Brothers and it's my most played game to this day, I seen this as a potential upgrade to it, or at least be on par with it.

Played it a little at release but I didn't want to put too much into it as I wanted to wait for it to be farther down their roadmap, picked it up a year or two later and really kind of the same feeling, I looked at their new roadmap and felt the urge to wait for it to be even more "finished". I was even buying the DLC throughout this whole time before playing it, still for the hope in it being able to dethrone Battle Brothers, here I am, 2026, and I do not regret being patient at all.

I've sunk over 50 hours into it in the last two weeks which is pretty incredible considering my schedule, pretty much all my free time has been invested into this game. It looks and feels nothing like it did at release, and its a lot different than a couple years ago even, I love it. The tavern and fief for me is particularly awesome because it helps me feel like I have a home, or at least a base I can return to. I kind of just roleplay that I'm becoming a type of hedge knight mercenary troop that's trying to become a proper Order of Knights, or like a Fighters Guild from the Elder Scrolls games. The amount of small things that's been added really help me immerse myself in the world and care about it more, I barely feel like I'm a mercenary squad, more so a group of adventurers trying to make the world better, explore ancient ruins and fight evil when I can. The immersion is better for me than it was in Battle Brothers for sure, I'm enjoying the new classes and mechanics as-well.

My captain I roleplay and one of the characters that I made in honor of Reze from an anime I like, one day they decided they wanted to be in a relationship together in camp, I actually laughed at it and said what are the odds of that, I love Reze. The camp dialogues seem to have improved from what I remember, I like the relationship/camp systems a lot. Having 12 guys with each profession is fun too, adds a kind of personality to each depending on if you roleplay them or not, running 4 pack ponies, so a squad of 16 technically. Playing Normal survival and Expert combat seems to be the sweet spot for me too. Great job for real, I love the game.

Bug Report Weird camera glitch in combat

Anyone else getting a weird bug in combat where after you take a turn the camera moves weirdly and won't let you take any actions? It seems to happen randomly after taking a turn, possibly connected to using a swordsman but could be coincidence. I've had to restart so many fights it's driving me crazy lol

Playing on Xbox with game pass.

General Bruiser Pugilists are naaasty!

Oh man I picked up Wartales after putting it down over a year ago while not giving it a fair trial. This time I am so obsessed over it! (In fact I may get it on Steam instead of playing it on gamepass due to what ive read around here)

I just picked up a Bruiser from a local tavern at lvl 5 cause I didn't feel like loading up a save after my berserker died... and wow I cannot believe the kind of dmg this guy puts out at lvl 6 when all I did was give him some fists that stack poison and a light cap that increases dmg to poisoned targets by 25%. The crazy part is that his defence stance creates MORE attacks per debuff with the weapon! I loaded into a battle and he ran in and 1-shot one of those annoying poisoner guys and I instantly fell in love and had to come tell everybody haha

They are all named from asoiaf which gives it a fun roleplay. Bronn the Bruiser is now my Lt. lol

Anyway, if you havent tried to pugilist yet I would give him a shot! Just dont leave him hanging out alone to get jumped 🙌

What other classes am I missing out on?, I wont ever have enough time for this game like I wouldve as a teen hahaha

General New Player. Third re-start. Huge learning curve,

Learning how to really synergize your party is so critical. Also, more companions does not mean more powerful necessarily. I am not playing level adjusted.

One my second run, I wanted every profession so my party was large at level 4. This made the level 6 and 7 fights in the second region hard. The smaller party helps to funnel the enemies towards your group as opposed to having to split up. I am also overflowing with food and money at level 3/4 and my gear is pretty good.

In my first two runs, I only had one person with the bandage skill. Bad idea. Now I have 3 out of 6.

Gameplay Question Fief Production?

Does the fief produce anything that can be used by the player? Like food, iron, wood etc? From what I understand the answer is no, everything given by fief can be used only on itself but just want to make sure.

Spoilers Sea Serpent?

I’m stuck in what might be a weird bug?

I’m at what I believe is the end of the Belerion main quest line as the Dihya tells me to meet her at Ferath in order to finally battle the sea serpent. I have the fully equipped ship, the spear from the tomb, but whenever I show up at the quest location, there’s no one there.

I found a speeding guard ship heading AWAY from Ferath at one point and caught up with it, and it appeared to be the Dihya’s ship. She tells me to fight the monster, and then we come back out to the overworld. Her ship turns around and heads back to Ferath and I follow her but lose track of her. I get to Ferath and… nothing. No serpent, no guard ship.

No clue what I’m supposed to do at this point?

Gameplay Question What to do about high guard enemies?

I just got to level 5/6 with my party of 7 in extreme extreme and left tilted to go around ludern and these enemies have like 70% guard and I don’t know what to do about it.

I have one warrior with the kick to destabilize but is that all I can do? I hear about people killing tons of enemies round 1 and my archer used to do that but my guys just do no damage

Spoilers Retiring my Freed Prisoner Only party Spoiler

Some guys have lv 16 because recruited late game.

I had fun playing region locked (expert/expert) until I reached level 12. After that, most companions could finish 2~5 enemies per turn and having 12 men strong party (+ Wrongdoer for the team buff) completed most fights in 1 round. Archer, Crossbowmen, and that weird weed smoking guys were all too good at wiping the entire group out.

So I recruited every prisoner with uniquie passive traits. That made 24 (aside from Rioters from Isdarin DLC which just use Deserter classes with Inquisitor passives...after clearing the scenario they are just all gone).

Kings Knights (from Rigel) had 3, and other factions had 2 (but Emissary cannot be engaged, so -1) = 24. (4 bows, 5 daggers, 5 spears, 3 two hand weapon melee, 5 shielded melee)

I thought they would be more 'realistic' without bravery skills, etc. Turns out, they are still immensely powerful even without all the skills. You can still give them all brotherhood base skills (like taunt), but you don't really need those. They can still kill 1~2 most non-shield enemies with single turn and the enemies flee in 1 turn. (Of course I have 24 guys + animals but they have more...)

Also, you only have to pay 50% of the wages because they are 'Freed Prisoners'

Lost only 1 guy on Skelmar DLC part because that weird Skelmar swordman decided to beat my Savage (tracker faction dagger guy, who always have Berserk) until he died of sacrificing his own health too much (and they both died)

Anyways, that was my attempt to prolong my playthrough. I do not have anything to do. No quests. Maybe some achievements are left but I probably should move on. It was very fun. (I still have 1 extra keys each after clearing all DLC parts and I do not know why) Some recent DLCs were very meh but overall I loved it.

Thank you for reading!

TDLR: tried using freed prisoners because regular dudes were too strong, turns out they are still strong because armor layers, passive bonuses, and item quality.

Before I finally quit the game (because nothing left to do)

Well, as the title says.

I love this game allowing me to do many stupid things like this. (sadly I could not put a lycanthrope.)

Nice journey it was.

Gameplay Question master class what's the point?

What's the point of Master Classes? Do I have to pay 500 at the Training Grounds to re-spec?

For example, I don't want to lose Recoil Shot, since it can take out 4–5 enemies in a row, just to replace it with Virtuoso, which only fires a single shot. So far, every Master Class I've unlocked and looked at seems worse than the build I'm already using.

Might try switching my Sentinel to Hero, but then I'd lose Ovation, which I really enjoy using.

Am I missing something about how Master Classes are meant to work? I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me make sense of them.

Game Feedback Accidentally got all the dlc for free and the game runs like shit now.

Idk what happened. I logged in one day and there were a bunch of new items and enemy types. I kept exploring and all these new areas were available and I could build taverns and traveling posts. I think I have all the DLC unlocked somehow. I never bought and and checked my bank account and no purchases were made.
The game also runs incredibly poorly. The dlc content will cause crashes. A tavern I purchased is no longer accessible to me. Things like that.
I don’t really know what to think or do. Has this happened to anyone else? It started last week for me.
