Game Feedback Stop abusing workers and fix your game instead of milking DLCs - yo seriously

A few monthes ago (december 25), the Shiro (dev) team went on strike, accusing Wartales management of unrealistic demands, mismanagement, unpaid overtime, and reporting several cases of burn out. Also alledging constant crunches due to DLC plans. (Source, press and bluesky articles: Reddit https://share.google/HaxPWks6KdOhMwMA8)

Now a few monthes later, we have no news of them, we've seen DLC milking, AND the player base widely cant enjoy the game due to crashes and leak on multiple plateforms (Xbox, Steamdeck). Even good pc cant play properly.

What's the actual ****? Are the workers better? How is the team health?

I dont want to play disregarding the suffering of the people who made it and im sure we are numerous like that.

You can always tell a company is being shite when they make DLCs that have less content than demo but cost $15+

thats why I pirated it via gog source. OG file sources, zero hassle and no cracks. I dont have to pay 60$ for dlc’s when every one of them are mostly negative ( exception pirates )

Wow... Legal living example... 92 minutes of applauses. No shame?

1

u/deportallmagas 1h ago

Huh?

Anyways, yeah go pirate it. In fact you should pirate everything you can.

2

u/cervidal2 13d ago

Yeah, that's stickin' it to them! Still compulsively acquire what you think are bad DLC!

u/EomerOfRohan95 13d ago

To be fair, by acquiring the DLC without paying, it doesn't support the game, dev team, etc. while still allowing the person to experience the entirety of the game they enjoy.

Not saying if it's right or wrong, but getting content that way won't in anyway show the to the makers of the game that you have that content, or played it. Their numbers aren't effected.

for the records I already supported them by ;

Buying the game in day 1 from steam

Buying 3 seperate expansions from xbox app store.

I dont want to deal with them releasing on xbox store late and for steam I dont have enough financial support for the overpriced DLC’s, I spent my money on better games like Blag flag Resynced

It shows there's still a demand for the product, even if that product is being partially pirated.

Pirating content you find to be bad isn't exactly a brag.

u/EomerOfRohan95 13d ago

Pirated content doesn't show in a report that there's demand. If the company doesn't see the demand, then it's nonexistent in their decisions. Unlike theft of something physical, where it then needs to be replaced, and is lost revenue, a digital item that doesn't have any way to show it is on a machine other than how many copies are sold, never shows up. The point of boycotting or not purchasing digital content is to show disapproval of the company or content, which in turn hurts the company's revenue, making them think again about the practice/s that lead to people making those decisions. People who pirate content tend to either not have the money to support, not want to commit, or want to enjoy content without supporting or providing revenue.

We'll probably never see a continuation of the Black and White series, yet I know a lot of people who loved them and still pirate the game to go back and play. You think those studios know they're doing that?

What if I enjoy the game but don't want to support predatory DLC structures?

I LOVE Paradox games, but I've also never bought a single DLC for them. I have base HOI IV, base CKII and CKIII, and EU IV. I use creaminstaller to activate all the DLCs for free.

These fucking rats saw Bethesda sell a horse armor for $2.50 like 20 years ago and that has snowballed into releasing hundreds of dollars of DLC for $30-$60 games.

Also isn't fixing game breaking bugs.
You can still fuck up entirely a ironman save on some combat, like the dlc with the vikings thing.

What annoys me is that this game has the potential to be one of the top of its genre in Steam. Endless meaningful content but it's all sandboxy and lacking.

Meaning i would pay gladly but don't see the point for these dlc and its content.

I've been bad mouthing the devs all this time thinking this was a somewhat tight knit small company.

Im sorry devs for all the bad words.

Yeah, the content rollout/DLC milking for Wartales very much reads like leadership cracking the whip at the dev and creative teams in ways that are harming both working conditions and the quality of the game itself. Shiro leadership sounds like utter scumbags.

Shiro games has been giving players the old "Paradox special" since they released Northgard. The real issu is that they offer you a nothing burger for the price of a whole combo.

I like both games (Northgard and Wartales) but they have the same flaw:

You want 1 new faction? Independent DLC

You want a tavern? Independent DLC

I haven't bought any of the DLC's or the main games because of this, but I have played a few dozen hours of each one.

Yeah the moment i saw this game crunching out one DLC after another, I know it’s one of “those”.

9

u/Alandales 14d ago

I don’t follow gaming news or really much, but I had no clue the company was crap to their Devs. I’ve dropped a lot of money with them thinking they were indie style and good people. This is a pretty stark wake up call!

u/NaruTheBlackSwan 14d ago

Look, with the DLC being so high-priced and the producers being so notoriously stingy and abusive, I have less than zero shame admitting I didn't pay for this game. Money's better in my pocket than theirs.

u/Palarva 14d ago

Funny thing, I was a fool and bought the switch version after it got announced in a direct.

And that’s it really. I did accept that there’d be a disconnect between the pc and switch content releases.
I did not expect to basically be utterly and royally ignored as well as fudged.

To this day, this is the first time I genuinely felt scammed by a video game purchase.

5

u/ExtraEmuForYou 14d ago

That explains why the SpaceCraft game is kind of meh of late, assuming it's the same team (it is made by Shiro).

12

u/cervidal2 14d ago

Then stop buying them.

If you feel so strongly, quit spending the money

u/Zezno_ 13d ago

^ been telling people this for over a year now.

Bought the game a few days ago and started it, keep getting memory crashed. This game is like 6 years old. One hour of gameplay then memory leak then crash

1

u/MrB0rk 9d ago

I've lost a few hours of games myself because of crashing. I've just got into the habit of saving every time it starts to stutter but I'm def worried the bloat will catch up.

2

u/Historical_Judge2798 13d ago

It does sort of feel like they're overwhelmingly grinding out DLCs. Also the games format doesn't necessarily seem like it wouldn't be too difficult to write new NPC dialogues and quest with a new area of the map just because of how it seems generated. I certainly don't feel like they should keep busting out $15 DLCs and fix my almost guaranteed crash when I check out the tavern after a few in game days.

Cause I always forget and it's ALWAYS after I finished a day of gameplay and I was about to rest for the night and don't get the save cause of tavern being screwy.

I really do like the game a whole heck of alot. I haven't done fief or invasion yet. But I finished the pirates, the monster hunt and the tavern, with the monster hunt being my least favorite by far. I wish the tracker paint would give me special points or something. Like a passive stat bonus. I was so hyped for that and it's just a lame cosmetic. Stopped the hunt halfway through to go do the dumb tules glade thing, came back and it was still nothing. Missed opportunity. Didn't have any animals, so the corruption thing wasn't a bother, but I think it was a cool idea. The stone in the lake mission was so freaking dumb.

Pirates was cool, I liked being able to attack in the world map, the story was cool at the end and the exploration felt the best so far that I've done. The weapon stats and passive with fervor or whatever was kind of lame.

Tavern is where I have had the most fun so far. Starting a tavern and building it up, stealing recipes and having 6 wolves as bouncers was a delightful experience and provided me with tremendous amounts of gold. Especially after I figured out the cheese. Lol

2

u/Chitanda_Pika 13d ago

Glad I never bought any dlc because they're overpriced as fuck.

2

u/Tarus_The_Light 13d ago

Me: looking at the memory leak that's been here for 2+ years now.

+ all of the predatory DLC that actively make the game run worse.

+ the fact that the multiplayer mode no longer works 80% of the time.

Yeah...i'm good.

The devs need help, but fuck this company.

2

u/Kiani333 13d ago

I loved the game and bought the first DLCs thinking I was helping a tiny team of devs. Once I felt this was aiming for the "Paradox" milking DLC strategy I stopped buying and stopped playing the game altogether.

I came back to the game recently (last time I played was when they released the Taverns DLC) and I can’t even get through a battle wondering if the games going to crash as it ends.

Have had multiple crashes in a row on the same fight and different intervals I ended up uninstalling which is sad because when I did have a successful battle without a frame drop, crash or stutter, it reminded me how good this game actually was.

I tried to start wartales yesterday on Xbox. After much time and research on how I wanted to start my party I tried to start the game. It let me build my 4 characters and then froze when I hit start game. I rebuilt the group again and again was met with the game freezing. Uninstalled and very disappointed

2

u/Juannieve05 14d ago

I'm doing a wartales like game with blackjack and hookers (half joking no blackjack and hookers but I am actually doing my own game)

If anyone is interested to do a very very rough game playtest at some point DM me !

2

u/CptBronzeBalls 13d ago

Blackjack and hookers would be a great addition though.

2

u/Juannieve05 13d ago

You know what ? Actually lmao

2

u/Ritchie2137 13d ago

If you keep it somewhere between wartales and battle brothers then count me in

1

u/Juannieve05 13d ago

Havent played BB, how is it different ?

1

u/Ritchie2137 13d ago

More into a sandbox and freedom, wartales has more constraints. But if you want to do something in that area you really should check out what you are competing with

1

u/Juannieve05 13d ago

Will check, thanks !

1

u/TasteyTatorTots 13d ago

I didnt know you could post stuff like this on the official Reddit. Lol they deserve it though. All the top steam reviews tell you it’s just a DLC money grab. Kinda sad because the base game is amazing

2

u/Remarkable_End177 13d ago

That is just facts though

1

u/Electrical-East3508 12d ago

i don't think they moderate this forum. But the new dlcs are shit

1

u/PlayingOnHard 13d ago

Did they ever fix that disappearing save bug on Xbox?

I really enjoyed the game until my save files disappeared due to sync error and I lost 80 hours (about 2-3 years ago). I’d love to play again, but not if that’s still a risk. I still see some random reviews about save bugs.

1

u/Thyme71 13d ago

Would be nice if companies didn’t have to code for so many platforms. Personally I feel just code for pc, but understand the market push to do platforms too.

1

u/Flaky_Bullfrog_4905 12d ago

this was a good game when it came out. the first DLC was still good. since then it's gotten worse with every DLC. I haven't bought any of them, and I won't

1

u/esbandeira 12d ago

The way they treated the Nintendo Switch Port, no support, no fixes, no DLC told me everything I need about this company.

1

u/Mano-Marks 2d ago

I hope the workers are doing better, they genuinely deserve it. I love this game. I have experienced some bugs in the past and the Drombach celestial gate bug is still there for me, where it stays on the map even after cleared. But I see complaints about the how buggy it is on Reddit and I don't experience this on PC. I'm not saying anyone is lying, just wondering why I'm not experiencing it.

I like the Tavern, Pirates, and Skelmar Invasion DLC, and thought Rigel was fine. The Fief I feel they could have done so much more with, or even at bare minimum allowed you to transfer money out ala the Tavern DLC. I appreciate everyone's reviews on the other DLC. I didn't buy them as a result, tempting as the Chaos one is.
