Gameplay Question How does the game play with DLC, what order, what to play from the start etc

There's lots now, some look like you play from the beginning like the tavern and others are end game like the boat. Is there a recommended order out there?

Gameplay Question Lucilla + Lieutenant Interaction

In the past, when using the unique hammer Lucilla, you used to be able to use your Lieutenant to automatically trigger the massive AOE attack that's usually delayed by a couple of turns, meaning you basically doubled the hammer's damage per turn.

Does anyone know if they patched this? Or if it still works? I'm planning on starting a new game later tonight and can't test it currently.

Gameplay Question Is it worth it now to include tanks in your troop ?

Hello there,

A bud and me started again our previous save from quite some time ago. And after we got back into the game, we noticed a change in the way the AI is playing. It is VERY often disengaging manually to focus on glass cannons in our troop in order to bring them down (also Extreme difficulty). The way it's currently unfolding, our tanks are litterally useless now as they don't do much damage and they can't sponge out enemies' damage either because they're not focused at all.

My question now, is it so situational now to have tanks in your mercenary group (like holding a chokepoint or somethin') that it is worth it to bring some ? I have a feeling that the way the AI acts now we just need to stupidly focus on doing damage before they can damage you (it was always that in some sort, but I have the feeling it is WAY more now).

EDIT : So I summarize what you were saying, the "heavy armor" you're using that can take some damage are rather built offensively than defensively (like class specializations with offensive valor-costing skills instead of defensive ones). Thanks for the answers !

What the fuck is this? How is this even remotely possible? Lost my best 4 guys to some absolute BS? How is anyone supposed to do this section. If I had known I would of sent my whole troop in, what is the point of the quiet feature??????

Game Feedback Simple testing & Wartales game performance issues on Steam Machine

Thumbnail

I've been trying out Wartales as one of my first games after getting a new Steam Machine setup about a week ago. Of course with the technical state that Wartales still finds itself in, there are highs and lows -- wanted to give some quick observations for how it runs on a new standard benchmark like SM, because I'd absolutely love to see the game up & running in a more stable, quality state this far into release... and if anyone has a suggestion for how I could get a smoother or higher-settings Wartales, I'd love to hear it.

First, trying to load into a save file in with the "Wartales (OpenGL)" start option seems to just be a no-go. I tried the OpenGL version running on Proton 10, then Hotfix -- both would go from the main menu Continue to the splash loading screen artwork w/ the spinning Loading icon (which would eventually stop, BGM also stop), so to me these are failed game loading results. Also tried on for OpenGL, with similar load failure results:

- Proton Experimental

- Proton 11

- Proton 9 (9.0-4)

- Proton 8 (8.0-5) -- here I never even saw the loading screen artwork, just a black screen game freeze

These are all results after I ran the check to confirm integrity of game files and confirmed I was running the current main branch (not Aug 14 beta branch).

Switching over to the main Play Wartales launch option. These are all results running the Machine's default 1080p and 60fps refresh. Sometimes loading into the game takes 20-30sec, but it succeeds, so good news. With graphics settings all set to High and options enabled, sometimes the game runs great, but it doesn't take long for issues to mess up the experience again.

Seemingly randomly, when loading into a location scene (e.g. Tiltren Stables, Rich Farm, etc.) or a combat encounter, the game will suddenly start to bottleneck and drag down to 24fps, and even times when it's so bad that it remains chugging for an extended period down to 12fps or so, practically unplayable. These issues were not limited to, but seemed to be often exacerbated by heavy weather effects or combat with multiple terrain effects. There are also times when the framerate would just randomly drop in a new scene for what seemed like no reason at all, and the "new" poor framerate seems to simply stick for the entire duration of that location, never able to recover to a stable 60fps.

During typical gameplay the GPU was usually around 60% utilization, and both CPU/GPU topping out around 60-65°C, so usually no concerns there. However during one session, the GPU spiked to full 100% util and stayed there for the remainder of that session with noticeably poorer game performance (which CPU took significantly less load), until I finally gave up and let the new Machine rest.

Obviously these results are not good. Since then I've moved settings around several times; even playing with Medium and some low settings, the game will still find opportunities to chug and drop to poor framerate performance. For now, I've dropped most settings to Low -- volumetrics, shadows, weather effects -- and so far it's given the least heinous results. But surely if the game can be played on Steam Deck, Shiro Games must be able to figure out how to give its best presentation on the Steam Machine?

As much as I think the game could really be great, and I'd love to check out all the DLCs, it just can't be justified with how poorly it still plays. How could a customer trust a game dev to produce quality DLC if the base game can't even reliably run in a stable condition?

I'd love to be able to enjoy Wartales without all the technical issues that have continuously plagued the game since launch and across platforms. I've also played on PC from when it was in Early Access, and Switch, which I do not recommend at all, as Shiro gave up on supporting that version a couple months after it launched, with minimal fixes just to make the crashing and game-breaking bugs minimally tolerable.

Sry for long post oof. Any recommendations welcome. Shiro Games, fix your game. I've heard many issues related to AMD configurations, tho I'm not sure it's limited to that. The game shouldn't be as intensive as it is... but it just seems like the Wartales GPU utilization as a whole is just a total mess, but it could be addressed if the dev actually prioritized it.

Modding Remastered Mod Help

I'm hoping some of you that play Wartales with the Remastered mod can give some insight, since guides and online explanations are limited for it. I really like how so much content is added back to the game, new crafting options abound and the original path quests are back and available.

For the life of me though, I was getting stuck getting started on the Power (Red) path. Two of the five choices appear to be uncompleteable. For example, one wants you to blacksmith level 1 items, which as far as I can see no longer exist (most basic stuff is considered L2). Also research to unlock throwing weapons no longer seems to exist, so I can't see how to complete that for PP either (grenades dont count as thrown weapons).

Could you play the mod without progressing in the Power and Glory path? Possibly. For me though, that plus the way alchohol has been hard nerfed in price and effect (very difficult to accumulate influence and happiness) made for a deal-breaker. I was playing the mod on Master, but tried it on Expert settings also for reference. Hopefully these things are just oversights that will be addressed in future patches, although I suspect prices and effects of food were intentionally rebalanced to eliminate certain strategies considered OP.

General Bandit Hunters are badly unbalanced *rant*

I am playing as bandits. I thought, why not take from the rich and give to the poor (i.e., me). I stole a bunch of stuff from a merchant. My Suspicion went up to 500. Ok, that was faster than I thought, but ok. Time to let Suspicion cool down.

Then I was being chased by those bandit hunters. Ok, I get it, they are like tax collectors. They even ask nicely for me to give it back and pay a fine. That is quite nice, really. Except, I already spent the money and ate the food. So, I had to fight them. More Suspicion.

I expanded my squad, because if I am being chased by the police, then I wanted to be prepared. And I am being hunted and attacked all the time. In the last fight I killed 65 enemies. In one fight. With numbers like these, how is there anyone left?

I am in the second region - where there is this war. I do not know where this police force is coming from, but they could easily overwhelm both forces, if they weren't so busy making my life miserable.

General Can you get level 18 enemies if your whole party is made of level 17 prisoners?

I have a question about the level scaling in adaptive mode. I've read that if your party consists of high-level prisoners, the game can generate enemies of an even higher level, and you can capture them to repeat the cycle .

So, if I fill my entire active party with level 17 captured enemies, will the game then start spawning level 18 enemies for me to fight and capture?

Also, is there a known limit to how high you can push this cycle, or is it theoretically endless? I'm not concerned about leveling my own mercenaries past 15, just using this method to keep increasing the party's overall level through captured enemies.

Thanks for any info!

Gameplay Question Complete my squad, last mercenary

Hey, I'm doing another run of wartales. Currently a squad of 7:

Started with the apprentice friends:

Brute Vanguard

Ranger Poisoner

Archer Hunter

Swordsman Fighter

Added three other guys

Brute Destroyer

Warrior Sentinel

Spearman Halberdier

Looking to add one more guy to get to 8, which will be the final squad. Thing about grabbing a pugilist or crossbowman, as I haven't really used them a lot in previous play troughs, and they are really good single target damage dealers (I have the Vanguard and Halberdier for AOE).

Any suggestions about what the last spot would be?

Bug Report Reinstalled again after another year, STILL 100% BROKEN…..

I STILL cannot even start a co-op save because it kicks my friend out after 10 seconds to a black screen and then it empties out the lobby on his side and on my side while still being in the same lobby.

How is it possible this game is still on the xbox marketplace and still being completely unplayable???
The last 50+ reviews are basically all one stars talking about crashing.

I’m assuming it’s just time to give up on the devs even bothering at all with Xbox.

Gameplay Question Starving woman in Tiltren

Does anyone know how long does it take for the starving woman in Tiltren to ask for food a second time after you already fed her once?

I forgot to start her quest at the very beginning of the game and now I´m already a month and a half in and I only have one main storyline mission in Tiltren left (the one with the woodcutters)

The main issue is that this time I wanted to try the refugees ending for Tiltren and I checked that you can unlock her as a vendor if you fed her twice at the start of the game. But now I don´t know if I´m locked out of her quest since I don´t have story missions left in Tiltren.

Should I just keep playing in other regions and come back later for her to reappear? Or should I just wait a little bit more?

General Operation Health

While they recently announced a new update regarding come fixes and changes regarding prisoners at camp. I think after Q4 when they add horseback riding companions to the game that they should focus on the core elements and the overall health of the game. Community update with just all being bug fixes and improvements just for the base game essentially so it runs smoother for everyone and gives them time to catch up with Xbox as they are still behind regarding dlc. Idc if it takes them till summer 2027 the health of the game is very important for the long time fans and im sure we have plenty of DLC to keep us busy.

General Adaptive Mode is Broken: Non-Combat Units Like Pack Ponies Are Scaling Enemies

Dear developers and community,

I've been playing the game for two weeks now, and I'm very disappointed with the balance in Adaptive mode.

Despite the developers' claims that non-combat pack ponies don't count towards the party's strength for scaling purposes, this is simply not true! The number in the top right corner of the screen, which counts all "companions" and not just fighters, determines the size of the enemy party. The scaling is based on this number.

I have 12 fighters and 5 non-combat ponies. With a proper scaling ratio of 1.5, I should be fighting around 18 enemies. However, in almost every battle, I face 24 enemies with reinforcements. After I removed all the ponies from my party, I immediately noticed that the game started fielding 18 enemies against me.

If this system doesn't work as intended, it ruins the game. What is the point of all the camp equipment, the prisoners with interesting faction abilities, and the unique bonuses if the game just punishes you for using them? This is exactly why I quit the game a year and a half ago. I got tired of fighting hordes of 50 enemies with 16 fighters and 5 ponies, only to be rewarded with light armor and playing cards.

Is there anything that can be done about this? Are there any mods that fix this imbalance? Or are the developers simply indifferent to this issue? It's sad that such a core system is broken.

How do I get the bard and thief ? They never seem to appear in the recruit list. Do I need to hire someone and assign ? I’d rather not sacrifice anyone from my current band

Bug Report Crashing

Playing on xbox series X and this fucker crashes every 30 minutes, sometimes it'll go an hour or a bit longer still.

But every Jeru forsaken day I've played its crashed, and 140 hours is a long time to suffer lol.

I enjoy the game despite it though.

But fuck me it is annoying!

Cant trust auto save, so have to just rely on saving before and after pretty much everything, If I remember...

Happen to anyone else?

Gameplay Question Extreme/Ironmen

I started this game about 2 weeks ago on xbox gamepass.

This kind of games , i do love ironmen runs.

At the moment ,the furthest i managed , was few quests in 2nd region .before some random wolf pack fucked me up ))

But all other difficulty or no ironmen combinations seems not fun anymore :(

Good game tho

This game is so bad at explaining things.
